moody,

Depends what you mean by good. Is it silly pointless fun? Yes it is.

Is it deep, compelling gameplay with a lot of replayability? No.

It plays kind of like Untitled Goose Game in a way. Short themed sections with vague goals.

moody,

This only applies to trademarks and the risk of genericization. You don’t lose copyrights that way.

moody,

It’s certainly possible, but AFAIK their objections have been about piracy and copyright infringement. At least I haven’t read or heard anything about trade secrets being at issue.

moody,

Meh, I don’t think there’s anything morally wrong with what he did. What he did wasn’t just legal, it’s literally his job. The only issue is that Valve is now angry at him for their own failing.

To continue the same analogy, they didn’t just leave the gate open, they literally invited a bunch of people and told them to invite other people. I’m not sure what they expected if not this exact situation.

moody,

That 2% includes forgetting to use one, running out and being too horny to abstain, and various other excuses for why you’re not wearing one when you’ve agreed beforehand that you would.

I believe it’s over a period of one year.

moody,

That guy looks like the weekly bad guy on a episode of Starsky and Hutch from the 70’s

You’re not wrong, but that’s also just a persona he plays, the hair and mustache are both fake. I don’t know how close the persona is to the real person, but I’m sure he’s hamming it up to some extent, just not enough to be a good person pretending.

moody,

The concept behind short-term multiplayer in a long game is pretty cool. The invasions and the jolly cooperation are fun features.

But an actual 2-player session is a completely different experience, and something a lot of people are looking for

moody,

There are also arcade and Wii versions of Punch Out.

What are some eras of gaming that you've stopped feeling nostalgic for? (kbin.social) angielski

As I've gotten older as a player, I have found myself dropping some eras of gaming that I used to be nostalgic for. One of them is the 8-bit era, the NES days. I have played some of the best that system had to offer and I will never say that system didn't have any good games....

moody,

Kind of sad that all of the games named were made by Nintendo or Rare (which was basically owned by Nintendo at the time)

How many third-party games were any good?

moody,

That’s sort of what they do, except they still call it a purchase. I’ve never seen the word ‘rental’ on any game store. They shouldn’t be allowed to even call it a purchase if it isn’t one.

moody,

I’m not aware of that happening, but I can’t say for sure. Typically the games stay Early Access until they announce the official release.

moody,

I think depending on what type of grip you use on your mouse, it might change what sensitivity you want to use. It’s easy to cover wider distances with your wrist moving left-right, but harder to cover the same distance using your fingers to move up-down.

moody,

I don’t usually change the Y sensitivity, but I use a grip sort of halfway between a palm and fingertip grip, where I use my fingers for smaller movements, and my wrist for larger ones, so I can definitely see why some would want to.

moody,

Crouching MK a is less committing poke. It’s faster and has more range, and has less recovery time. You can basically always chain it into a fireball, and if the kick hits, so does the fireball. If the kick is blocked, the fireball has to be blocked as well.

Use the fireballs alone at medium range. If they jump over, a quick dragon punch knocks them down. If they block, you get some chip damage in.

If you really want to get good, look up frame info for your character. It will let you know which attacks can be chained into each other, and which ones are easier or harder to punish.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world) angielski

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

moody,

two programmers, two artists and one designer

One of those programmers was John Carmack, who happens to be ridiculously talented, and actually revolutionized PC gaming multiple times throughout his career.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?

It’s not amazing, but as far as side-scrolling platformers go, it was fairly compelling.

Also the PSP can play PS1 games, so you have access to a pretty big library of classics.

moody,

That’s what differentiates free games from free-to-play games. A free game gets you the entire experience for free. A FTP game gets you a barebones experience unless you spend money.

Big studios typically don’t release actual free games, obviously because there’s no money to be made that way.

moody,

2.4 mil to settle, or paying your lawyers potentially for years to fight the lawsuit and maybe lose?

moody,

Street Fighter 6 recently came out, to pretty high praise from reviewers and the general public.

The game has a “Year 1 character pass” that adds 4 new characters. Eventually, there will be a year 2 character pass that will add more characters. If you’re not buying these, you’re literally not getting the entire game. When you play online, you will face opponents playing characters that you can’t even play yourself.

There are lots of games that have similar features where not spending the extra cash means you’re literally not getting as much content as everyone else. It’s not just about cosmetics anymore and hasn’t been for years now.

Epic Games reportedly hit by 189GB hack, including login and payment info (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

The report comes from Cyber Daily, who also broke the news of last year’s confirmed hack attack on Insomniac Games. The site claims that new ransomware group Mogilevich are the culprits, as per the screencap of a darkweb posting above, and that the hackers are now trying to get Epic or another party to pay up for the return of...

moody,

Situations like this are why I never save my payment information anywhere.

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend? angielski

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

moody,

Check out Unpacking. It’s less puzzle, and more organizing. Super casual, satisfying game about literally unpacking things into your apartments and houses as you progress through life.

It’s quite short at about 3-4 hours.

moody,

I don’t play a lot of AAA games, but ngl I’m quite happy gaming at 1080p on my 27" monitors.

I get way better framerates, and it still looks plenty good with maxed out graphics, as long as I’m not sticking my face right up against the screen.

moody,

Not only that, the image of a failed dish is pixelated/censored in the game as if the result was truly obscene.

  • moody,

Not that easy moving to another country when you have a criminal record.

    moody,

Nintendo’s lawsuit was a civil suit, but he spent time in prison for fraud.

    moody,

I have experience with MTG but only a passing knowledge of Pokemon. My understanding is that it would depend entirely on what your deck does. Are you using pokemon that are expensive to use? Do you have any means of getting energy besides just drawing it? Do you have ways to draw more cards? All these things will come into play to determine the ratio you need. With experience you can guesstimate these things, but to be sure, the only way is to play the deck a bunch and adjust depending on what you feel you need to add.

    moody,

Pals out in the world definitely get killed. You get meat, leather, and organs from them.

    moody,

The game has been fun for me, since I’ve been an Ark player for some time, and it feels like Ark with Pokemon instead of dinos.

So far, it does lack some of the depth, but it’s also much less grindy and feels less “serious,” and also more straightforward. It seems like the game has a path that you’re expected to follow, unlike Ark which just throws you into the world and expects you to die a thousand times while you’re learning.

    moody,

Many would say so. Wizards of the Coast, the makers of Magic the Gathering, have worked very hard at balancing the two sides of the coin. On one side, they design cards such that power levels determine the demand (and thus price) for rarer cards on the resale market, and on the other they argue that the cards have no intrinsic value so that buying packs can’t count as gambling since there’s technically no expected profit for the buyers.

    moody,

So those cards have been around forever, and no one complained about them.

There have definitely been complaints about gambling in relation to collectible cards. I don’t think anything has come of them in legal terms, but many complaints have been voiced.

    moody,

I saw a $100 bundle of in-game currency and decided I’d rather not play.

    moody,

I wouldn’t pay $100 for an entire game. It grosses me out that someone is expected to spend $100 on cosmetics. Like obviously not everyone, but that it’s even possible is rather horrifying. Especially since it doesn’t stop there. You can buy multiple packs, and it’s fully expected that some people will.

    moody,

Roblox is well-known for predatory practices aimed at children, and predatory behavior from other users who may or may not be looking for children to abuse.

Banning Roblox entirely seems like a very reasonable thing to do IMO.

    moody,

A remaster of a 3-year-old game? What the fuck is this?

    moody,

They’re already doing it. The question is whether or not they get away with it.

    moody,

Those were the days when paid Xbox Live service was way better than the free PS network. If you wanted to play online, the experience was much better on Xbox. Sony’s online experience has vastly improved since then, and their first-party games are generally considered much higher quality than Microsoft’s alternatives.

    moody,

Some of the updates have already improved performance a decent amount. It’s still not great, but it’s better than 2 days ago.

    moody,

Everything that was paid DLC in the original is free in ASA, at least.

    moody,

there’s absolutely nothing wrong with allowing the engine to run with settings current hardware can’t handle

Sure, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but if you want your product to sell and be successful, the period shortly after release date is where most of your sales will happen. If nobody can run your game at that time, you could lose 90% of the lifetime sales you’re likely to make. It would make more sense to release a slightly pared-down version of the game that actually runs well now and improve it in the short-to-medium term with updates. Or, alternatively, release it when it can actually run well on commonly-used hardware.

    moody,

They started shilling for Shell to extend that income a little bit more as well.

    moody,

The stock market has to be one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made as human beings.

    moody,

It’s a translation layer. It doesn’t emulate anything.

    moody,

I feel like a PS4 equivalent handheld is definitely respectable nowadays. That’s about the performance that the Steam Deck puts out.
