Poker is a gambling game. Balatro is loosely based on poker. Throw in some additional luck/randomness and change the money aspect to points. Gambling and addiction in general are devastating.

It would be interesting to compare brain activity of a gambling addict at the casino with a dedicated balatro player. I have my suspicions about what we would see.

There is no gambling mechanic, other than matching poker suits there aren’t really any poker mechanics, there are no other players.

False. It is a card game, sometimes people gamble over card games and poker is a common one. You can gamble over yahtzee if you wanted to.

It’s a strategy game with almost zero luck involved. It doesnt scratch the gambling part in the brain at all.

It’s all about multipliers and making numbers big, which is satisfying. You don’t put any currency in it, not even virtual.

All you can win is a “You Won”

You’re doing runs and don’t expect anything in return but having a good and fun time. A time that cost you about the power your device draws.

Edit: Ive played a lot of Poker in the past. Balatro doesnt make me think about playing poker at all.
