Björn Ruther has worked on this as mo-cup supervisor and historical advisor, so I’m kinda curious to see the end product! (Pseudo-)Historical accurate medieval games are hard to come by, surprisingly.
Same. It was rough but damn it was good fun. I really hope they cleaned up the edges with two and full send it with that dark satire angle again. I want them to double down with the humor they cultivated for the in-game world.
This does look a lot more faithful to the gameplay of the original than that weird mobile game they made a couple years ago. I’m sure the move to 3d means the precision won’t be quite as demanding, but hopefully the extra dimension will make up for that with interesting new challenges.
I truly drank my fill of the first game. I found it to be an exemplary of “generous” game development with all the unlockable characters and the “dark/ hell world” and the unlockable lo-fi mini-version of the game, and IMO you can see that generosity also in how it influenced future successful games such as Celeste (also has a fun lo-fi pico8 version of itself for instance). ugh I just loved it so much. no I’m down for them to make a 3D game. I would die for them
I never played the Plague Tale games and I still don't understand how this fits into the franchise. I thought it was about the plague and rats and stuff.
Sophia, this new game’s protagonist, is a pirate in the other games who throughout the franchise becomes a close friend to, and sorta takes the place as a maternal figure for, Amicia and Hugo (the protagonists of the original games)
This game is a prequel into her life set some years before the events of the plague.
They lost their main VA because he’s a creep. I wonder if they’re gonna hire the same guys Adult Swim hired to replace Roiland on Rick and Morty. The obviously had to emphasize something other than the voice acting, so they went with the skateboarding mechanic.
The studio ditched Roiland as soon as the game was released. He only voiced one gun if I recall (the main one), but wasn’t involved in production or writing at all except for a bit of improv presumably.
He also had no involvement in the dlc and the gun he voiced didn’t feature.
The original game had many other guns with many other voices from other, more famous comedians.
Don’t think there’s as much “drama” here as the internet wants there to be. The studio got a clean break from him as soon as it could, and it seems to be going fine.
One thing that I hope they didn’t carry over from the first one is the ad-libbing of 90% of the NPC’s lines. The voice actor is not good at improv and constantly resorts to swearing and throwing insults out of no where for cheap shock value whenever he hits a block. At first it was funny because it was different to what you’re used to but it got old really quick.
Justin Roiland hasn’t been with Squanch Games since the abuse allegations and lawsuit regarding his sexual harassment of an employee. Roiland was not named specifically in the suit, but the suit was settled out of court and Roiland left Squanch at the same time, so we can all put 2 and 2 together and make “Roiland is a disgusting freak.”
He wasn’t even in the DLC from the first game, High on Knife.
