DoucheBagMcSwag, do games w Hades 2 will be a Nintendo Switch 2 console exclusive at launch

Methinks that’s why Silksong has taken forever to come out. Will likely be a console exclusive as well for a time

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

We already know it’s going to be on Switch 2 and Xbox, including Game Pass day 1. It’s not going to be exclusive, but at the very least, Microsoft paid handsomely for it.

DoucheBagMcSwag,

Oh meaning PlayStation will have to wait then

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

Microsoft is bringing their own games to PlayStation at this point. It’s possible it’s kept off PlayStation, but I doubt it. Team Cherry knows what their game is worth, and that would be a massive buyout.

zipzoopaboop,

Silksong hasn’t taken much longer than og hollow Knight. They just announced it too early

skankhunt42, do games w Switch 2 GameCube controller will only be offered to those who pre-order the console
@skankhunt42@lemmy.ca avatar

The Nintendo GameCube (GCN) Controller – Nintendo Classics will be exclusively available for Nintendo Switch Online members and will initially only be offered to those invited to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console

Does this suggest I can buy it later or am I going to have to pay scalper price if I want it?

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

I think you’ll always need NSO sub if buying directly from Nintendo, but pre-order rule only seems to be because of scalpers, so that only those who can actually use it, buy it.

TheThrillOfTime,

I think you can buy it later. They still sell all the NES, SNES and N64 controllers on their website.

Here’s to hoping that Switch 1 emulation is easier and better

theangriestbird,

you mean as a feature on the new console? or like PC emulation?

randombullet,

Steam deck emulator specifically. Nintendo tends to not care about old gen stuff being emulated. If Yuzu was released after the switch 2 comes out, then I wouldn’t imagine Nintendo going that hard after it

BuboScandiacus,
@BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz avatar

The switch 2 will have switch compatibility

arality,

I use Ryujinx flathub.org/apps/org.ryujinx.Ryujinx on my steam deck. It mostly works.

Also if you don’t already know. Emudeck www.emudeck.com will install any emulator you want.

randombullet,

I installed yuzu on my deck. Worked better than Ryujinx, at least for BotW. Just sad there won’t be any additional updates.

senseamidmadness,

Nintendo cares a lot about killing off emulation and ROM hosting wherever they can, actually. They send out cease and desist letters all the time and many projects and websites have been killed because of it. Thousands, I think, from single-person projects like “Another Metroid 2 Remake” all the way up to Team Xecuter. I think one of the Switch emulators that was in progress a couple years ago got killed off by the lawyers.

The catch is that reverse-engineered emulators being made without any Nintendo code, and made without the intention of profit, are not a violation of copyright law or Nintendo licensing and Nintendo has no grounds to sue the makers. But they’re always keeping an eye on such projects waiting for something actionable.

This is why any given Nintendo emulator website or Github repository you can find will have zero links to any ROMs or any sources for them – because anything like that will get an immediate letter and possible lawsuit.

Edit: I remembered right, Yuzu actually got sued and had to pay Nintendo 2.4 million USD. It’s also dead in the water. pcgamer.com/…/nintendo-v-yuzu-switch-emulator-shu…

Exec,
@Exec@pawb.social avatar

Yuzu was accepting money for early access and also had compatibility specifically for leaked games before their release

roadrunnerr,

Yeah the folks behind Yuzu made some really bad calls as the emu got more popular.

Do these devs ABSOLUTELY deserve to get paid for their incredible work, allowing me to play BOTW at 4k60? Of course!

Adding in code that allows a new, UNRELEASED, Zelda game to run, then paywalling the latest version of the emulator with this code, puts you directly in a lawsuit’s crosshairs.

Then on top of that they didn’t cover their tracks of discussing their testing of TotK in dev discord (might have been a different platform, can’t remember) chats, providing a clear paper trail that they were breaking the law to Nintendo the second they could get a subpoena.

De_Narm, do games w The Witcher 4 has entered full-scale production, CD Projekt has confirmed

Just in time for me to actually play Witcher 3, I’m starting this weekend. I wasn’t big on Witcher 2 and just never got around to 3 until now.

NocturnalMorning,

Oh you’re in for a treat. The side quests in Witcher 3 are legendary. I love everything about that game.

De_Narm,

I sure hope so, I got quite burned on the last big budget game I’ve played years after the hype. God of War 2018 felt like a culmination of every wrong with gaming at that time (outside of mtx) and AAA games only got worse from there.

currycourier,

Out of curiosity, what didn’t you like about God of War 2018?

De_Narm,

I went into detail here. In short, nothing was actually engaging. Combat, puzzles and traversal all felt shallow.

Buddahriffic,

Does it also include those cutscenes where you have to press a button that pops up on the screen or you have to start the cutscene over again?

I hate those because:

  1. Every console has a different layout for basically the same buttons.
  2. I like cut scenes being little breaks where you just watch and soak it in. At least assuming the character doesn’t make choices I hate or suddenly surrenders because a few enemies point weapons at them (after probably having fought more of those enemies actually using their weapons instead of just threatening it).
  3. If I’ve seen a cutscene already, I’d rather skip it and get back to the good gameplay. Maybe the interaction was intended to reduce that “go away cutscene, you’re boring, I want to get back to the fun stuff” but I don’t find it accomplishes that at all.
  4. It’s not good gameplay. Even if I don’t end up panicking and hitting a wrong button or missing it because I’m not ready to think about where the X button is on this particular controller, it’s not rewarding at all to succeed, other than the “yay, I don’t have to repeat this stupid shit anymore”.
  5. And I especially hate ones that prompt mashing buttons as fast as you can or rotating a stick as fast as you can (and this applies outside of cutscenes, too). I don’t find anything interesting about testing the physical limits of my thumbs and wearing down the buttons or sticks involved faster in the process.
De_Narm,

Do you mean quick time events (QTEs)? The game has at least one cutscene I remember where you’re prompted to activate an ability to change the outcome, however, I think that’s it. The games usually doesn’t have them.

Although, it does commit an entirely different sin in terms of unskippable cutscenes: There are several ‘immersive’ cutscenes with you suddenly walking at a snail’s pace or climbing slowly around while the cutscene plays out.

NocturnalMorning,

I will say, i didn’t think the main story was that strong. But the huge amount of amazing side quests more than made up for it.

darkkite, (edited )

if you’re on pc. get the friendly ui mod and try to hide the mini map and use 3d maps marker instead. immersion is so much better

stevedice,

This. I spent 84% of my first playthrough looking at the minimap.

But it’s a bit weak on combat mechanics, there I prefer Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3.

mercano, do games w Yakuza creator Nagoshi says the era of game size being most important is coming to an end
@mercano@lemmy.world avatar

Yakuza maps have never been particularly huge. Even in the most recent game, the new map is maybe on the scale of GTA III or Vice City. Still, they manage to pack 15-20 minigames into each game’s word map, some of which involve driving or riding around the map, plus the inevitable scavenger hunts and hidden collectibles.

Crafter72,

The key is the “density”, activities and (player) engagements. I find it funny RGG is probably one of developers that can get away reusing assets so much that even can be traced back to ps2 assets on their newer games.

Someonelol, do games w Yakuza creator Nagoshi says the era of game size being most important is coming to an end
@Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’d be nice if JRPGs would go back to the old school overworld design like in Star Ocean 2. It’s a good compromise between sense of scale and interactivity with the world.

Stern, do games w Yakuza creator Nagoshi says the era of game size being most important is coming to an end
@Stern@lemmy.world avatar

Infinite Wealth was deffo a bigger map and set thereof then its predecessors (Like a Dragon was also substantially larger, as was Lost Judgment in comparison to its predecessor), but it did absolute numbers, so I dunno about that.

I think it comes down more to if it feels appropriately sized and filled. Prior Yakuzas were bursting at the seems with shit to do everywhere in their smaller maps. Breath of the Wild had new and interesting shit going on everywhere too.

almar_quigley,

I’ve gotta disagree on BotW. I love Zelda games and the mechanics of that game were an amazing shift in the franchise. But that open world was so boring. The same like 4-5 enemies, even the harder variants didn’t have different movesets. TotK was even worse with the depths and a majority of sky islands being empty and devoid of content.

But the e gameplay is so fun it’s a lot easier to forgive them than say AC Odyssey.

jacksilver,

I’ve been saying this since it released. Cool mechanics, but boring world and gameplay. I’m still a bit salty about the loss of real dungeons, nothing in BOTW or TOTK feel as memorable as the previous games.

Daveyborn,
@Daveyborn@lemmy.world avatar

2 of the 3 maps in infinite wealth were re-used anyways. I really like that they get good mileage from reusing assets they make.
