You got to take that up with the Microsoft executive who wrote it. It’s physical media, so Microsoft has less control over it, which they clearly don’t like.
Side note, is there there a good open source alternative to Discord in terms of it’s exact functionality? (And I don’t mean as a forum alternative, but voice comms and streaming). After their app update, I’m kind of annoyed with them. Yet, my community is rather dependent on them despite their enshittification.
We got sucked in because you could simply link it to randos on MMOs and if they didn’t want to download an app, could still have voice comms in browser. Before that, we had ventrillo, mumble, etc, but nothing was quite as easy access for randos. But man, they kind of suck lately so… hrm. :/
There is OpenRA. An open source engine to get those classic C&C games running on modern machines but it only supports C&C, Red Alert 1 and Dune 2000.
They are working on the next engine with Tiberian Sun currently under development.
If you’re interested in Dungeon Keeper, I highly recommend a similar project called KeeperFX. Play the game on modern systems, in higher resolutions, with game fixes as well.
Steam Link performance was terrible for me. Like half the frame rate and crunchy as hell. No idea why. I assume it was using CPU rather than GPU, or maybe using too much GPU…
GFE worked for a bit (until Nvidia killed it) but would often use the wrong monitor with no way to configure it.
The one thing I don’t care much for in PalWorld is building structures (walled structures), it feels kinda janky and restrictive at the moment. Which it hasn’t been a major part of the game so far, but it’s one of the few things that’s bothered me about it. Otherwise, it’s been a breath of fresh air compared to Pokemon’s recent outings.
You don’t want to build much anyway, because you need every inch of your base ring for pal stations, but yeah. We have a 1x1 lean-to with 2 beds in it, the rest is the massive fucking breeding operation we’ve set up
I’ve got a dedicated server I play with a few friends, and I got really stoned on the first day and just kept building a building for our base. Next thing I know I’ve spent six hours on 5 floors (not including an attic space and WiP rooftop garden… need to unlock more building stuff).
I got excited but unfortunately the first game is Destiny and they don’t even mention the rest of them. That’s probably the one game I wouldn’t even take free.
I had a steam deck for a bit. I never used it as a handheld. it is a great little linux gaming box. my guess for anyone that wants to use one connected to a keyboard, mouse, and monitor the older ones are going to be a great deal.
