Definitely not getting in on this generation, then.

Segab, do gaming w League of Legends is testing a new WASD control scheme, 16 years inThe WASD controls will launch in public beta first for an ‘extended run.’

Anyone remember Master X Master? It was a MOBA that had WASD controls as its only option, even had a jump (though it was mostly useless), it felt so much more intuitive than spamming click. I don’t think that’ll get me to try LoL again though.

_cryptagion, do games w Sony calls Tencent game ‘slavish clone’ of Horizon in new lawsuit

I might be convinced to care just a small, tiny, minuscule amount if it was an indie game. But a corporation like Sony? They can get fucked hard and often with a chainsaw, for all I care.

Wait is there actually a Zelda movie happening? I feel like I’ve heard of intentions to make a Zelda movie for 20 years.

Anyone member when IBM decided it was an “ideas company” or some bullshit like that?

I mean, they still make more than I do, but when was the last time anybody thought of IBM?

Zorque,

For consumer electronics? Probably a long time. For industrial applications? Quite often.

sramder,
@sramder@lemmy.world avatar

That’s true, it took them 10-15 years but they built a huge service business. I was specifically referring to the loss of the desktop market to the “clones” which has a rough equivalence.

It was more of a cheap shot than a serious prediction ☺️ As long as MS controls the licensing and software this is a completely logical move.

commander, do games w Microsoft is raising prices on Xbox consoles, controllers, and games worldwide

Microsoft may as well just cancel their whole Xbox hardware business. Xbox Series is a secondary market for Microsoft games after PlayStation and any console successor they release is going to limp to the starting line. At least the XSX had hype from the Bethesda acquisition and previous Obsidian/Inxile/etc acquisitions

Really we all need a Steam Deck 2 and a stronger Valve produced Strix Halo mini-PC

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

It’s looking like the Xbox will stick around as a cheap entry point into Game Pass and the games that Microsoft publishes themselves. Yes, I know, it’s not as cheap as it used to be, but still fairly capable for a game machine at that price. The Steam mini PC is likely on its way. A couple of months back, there were leaks of the new Steam controller that leaked on their way to be mass produced after finalizing the design, so they’d probably accompany the living room machine. In the meantime, I have a mini PC running Bazzite that’s been awesome, but with tariffs in the US, you won’t be able to get the same performance per dollar that I got.

Not after these price increases

letsgo, do games w Microsoft is raising prices on Xbox consoles, controllers, and games worldwide

The last three games I paid for were Minecraft, Factorio and Dwarf Fortress (pre-Kitfox).

I haven’t needed a new one since that.

Old games are better anyway. Covid knocks off two IQ points every time you catch it, and it shows in the quality of software these days.

Telorand, do gaming w Sony is experimenting with AI-powered PlayStation characters

Easy way to tell if you’re talking to an AI: “Are you sentient?”

A human might say “no,” but most of these companies are using models that are preprogrammed to say “no” by default and resist any attempts to get it to agree that it is.

If this is the future of online gaming from AAA studios, then I’ll stick to indie games, thanks.

The Crysis games have been dead to me since Crysis 2. Crysis 1 is still a blast to play even today.

PopeRigby,

I thought Crysis 2 was fun. What didn’t you like about it?

radau,

Not the person you replied to but I liked the openness in the original a lot more, 2 and 3 were fun but I got nowhere near the replayability. The destruction felt a lot better in the original too from what I remember, crash a truck into a building and cave in part of it which was amazing for my 8500gt at the time… at 8 frames per second haha

PopeRigby,

I agree losing the openess was a shame, but I really enjoyed the story and updated gameplay in 2. I haven’t played 3, but it’s my understanding that it’s more open than 2 again?

Mikelius, (edited ) do gaming w The 2TB WD_Black C50 expansion card for Xbox Series X/S hits record low $190

Weird, I have a regular old 2TB (or maybe it was 1?) western digital plugged into the USB on the back of my series x and it works fine, not sure I understand the need to spend a bunch on something like this. Edit: and before responding about speed… I haven’t noticed much, if any, difference in game performance from installing on the drive or external outside of the initial game loading (startup) time, so not sure if that’s the only benefit to using the expansion slot.

jordanlund,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

USB drives are good for storage only, you can’t actually play the games from there. You have to move them to the SSD to play them.

Mikelius,

Hmm I’ll have to check this later as I don’t remember ever running into that problem since my Xbox internal has been full for a while. But I also wonder if that applies to physical copies or not since all my series x games are physical. Unless Xbox does this automatically in the background without user intervention, then I may have not noticed

jordanlund,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, series X and S games can’t be played from external storage. You have to move them to the SSD.

Where you might be being tricked is that it WILL work for OLDER games, so if you’re using it for backwards compatible versions, it will work fine.
