What the fuck? There's...what? I played this game for a short bit and thought it was great, but I figured I got the gist of the game and never felt the urge to resume. I was still outside, so I clearly stopped before it started getting good. Fuck. I'm going back in, thank you for posting this.

perishthethought,

Dooooo it. Yes.

perishthethought, do gaming w I thought I'd just be purring and meowing...

In the hour since I posted this I got to the end. Yeah, that was great but I wish there was more. I’d be excited to hear if they ever make a sequel.

But on the Wikipedia page it does say…

On 5 September 2023, Annapurna Animation announced an animated film adaptation of Stray is in development after the success of its first film Nimona (2023). Robert Baird, co-head of animation, felt the game was suitable for adaptation due to its popularity, as well as its buddy comedy and hopepunk elements.

So there’s that. Though it makes me sad to think we needed to make “hopepunk” a word; how is having hope a “punk” thing? :|

perishthethought,

Oh! Good news - I still have 11 achievements to earn, so back in I go.

survivalmachine,

It’s punk af. Punk is a leftist/inclusive/anti-authoritarian movement that focuses on self-reliance and direct activism to get shit done. A lot of the general punk scene has been all over the board on their optimism/pessimism about our ability to affect meaningful change. Recently, subgenres of punk have sprung up that are very much still punk, but focus on one category of change or have a more optimistic outlook. Solarpunk is a branch of the punk movement with a green focus. Hopepunk focuses on can optimistic outlook with traditional punk values. Fashion-wise and music-wise, they tend to lean towards greens/blues or brighter/lighter colors or more folk-punk or upbeat tunes.

Weird Barbie would definitely qualify as hopepunk.

Just like any other sub-genre, though, if it rubs you the wrong way, it’s generally fine to just refer to it as the parent genre. Hopepunk is still punk, so feel free to call it that if it works better for you.

perishthethought,

Ok thanks. That makes sense. I’m always glad to see when anyone can still express hope for a better future.

I keep meaning to pick this one up! I’ve got so many games on my wishlist and so little money lol.

perishthethought,

My son gave me this for Xmas so I got lucky. But yeah, get it when / how you can.

It’s a fantastic little adventure platformer, wrapped up with cat physics. Some of the missions you end up doing don’t seem catlike at all, but I forgive them – most cats wouldn’t properly move a plot along without the prompting of their robot friend either. ;)

It’s a very nice game, and at a good price point. :)

Many cats wouldn’t move a plot along even with prompting from a robot friend.

Robot opens door for cat. Cat sits and looks

The cat physics are also outstanding. You can tell there were animators just sitting there studying how cats move for many, many hours.

This game is such a great, short experience. Reminds me of Portal in that sense. It really hits you in the feels at several parts. Runs perfectly on the Steam Deck.

perishthethought,

Yes. In fact, as it ended, I hoped it would have a “this is a triumph” kind of ending song too. :)

TimTheEnchanter,

This was the first game I played on my Steam Deck when I got it! Had a tiny bit of trouble with lagging, especially when there were a lot of enemies on screen, but some tweaking in the settings fixed it. Had a lot of fun with this game, though!

OMD is a fantastic series! I remember playing the first one back on the 360, and then being sad because I didn’t have a PC to play 2 when it came out. When I eventually got a PC I sunk so many hours into the series. I’m also quite sad the series is probably over because there really isn’t anything else that fills that space. I’ve tried Sanctum but it’s just not for me.

Orcs Must Die was one of the last series that my friend and I played in co-op. We went from League (burn out) to recapturing some true gaming magic thanks to these games. I don’t play multiplayer these days but thanks for reminding me to give the 3rd entry a solo try.

I love orcs must die but hate playing it alone. Every now n then I binge orcs must die with a friend and it’s awesome

I tried the series and was never a huge fan, (I was always a Sanctum kinda guy) but picked up Orcs Must Die 3 recently and been really enjoying it! Seems like the best in the series so far.

Still waiting on Sanctum 3 tho

My wife and I enjoy playing 2 together. It’s good stuff.

Ohh, never know there’s omd3, only heard about unchained being f2p and lost interest with the franchise from then on. Might give omd3 a try in the future, omd1/2 is great fun

Omd3 is pretty cool it has these “war” levels that have massive massive hoards and you get new traps to deal with them.

perishthethought,

I think I’ve played OMD3 the most now and right, that’s largely because of the new options, traps and weapons. Robot did a great job moving the series foreword without removing any of the fun. And the DLC just extended that a lot more.
