While it’s not ideal there is something actively played out there, with plenty of custom maps and kind of recent…

I’ll copy-paste a previous comment about it here:

Though development is long dead, the servers were taken offline recently and it was delisted by Epic, people are still playing the Unreal Tournament pre-alpha (commonly called UT4) which you can get here: www.ut4ever.org/downloads

You’ll also need to register an account here and merge it with an Epic account: ut4.timiimit.com/Instructions/UT4UU

The download should come with the unofficial update which gives access to the private servers, I play on the Unreal Carnage servers regularly which often gets 8-15 players at a time, more than enough for some deathmatch. Would love to see some more people around!

(Mind I’m in New Zealand, which is why my ping is so high, the netcode handles it well somehow)

Early access doesn’t necessarily mean bad. 2 of my favourite games this year have been Core Keeper and Timberborn. Both early access, got more than 100 hours in both and I’m definitely not halfway through either. They’re great as they are and updates are coming to improve them. I do agree though you have to be very wary of what game you choose to support, I have been burned before by a developer that took the money and ran. Fuck you Code{}atch, I’ll never forgive you.

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

You sound like me lol. Perhaps you’d like Core Keeper? The first game I found that scratches that minecraft itch like no other since I stopped playing minecraft long ago. I found sidescrolling in Terraria no good for me, liking the top down perspective of Core Keeper much more. Just wish you could create more than one storey in a structure somehow. I’m no developer but surely it can be done.
