Oh no, we’re getting to the point where PS2-era visuals are considered low-poly??

atomicpoet, (edited )

This isn’t a PS2 game, it was a Win XP game – hence why this specific screenshot was taken in 1200p. There is, though, a separate version available for PSP that looks like this, and that’s way more low-poly.

That said, yeah. There’s a huge noticeable difference between today’s high res, high refresh rate graphics and the PS2.

Oh I see - I don’t know why, but I assumed this was a new game.

nimble, do games w The EU initiative for Stop Killing Games has reached the goal of 1 million signatures!!

Do they still need to get the minimum in at least 7 countries? Anyone happen to know? Ive only been loosely following and i don’t want to stress the website more than it is suffering lol.

Contramuffin,

No, that requirement has already been met. The final requirement (which has just been met now) is to reach a total of 1 million signatures. Basically, all requirements are now satisfied

nimble,

Awesome, thank you!!

exu,

Do still sign if you can, some signatures might turn out to be invalid and we need a buffer against that.

Only 4 countries have not reached the minimum.

@nekusoul@lemmy.nekusoul.de avatar

In a way, focussing on the countries was always ultimately pointless (aside from encouraging votes througj country rivalries). It’s almost impossible to not have required countries after the million votes milestone. You’d have to male something very specific like “make dutch the only language in the EU” in order to not make that cut.

Mobile gaming, on Android, is an interesting space right now. I used to buy flagship phones exclusively, as high spec as I could just…because I could. I played a few emulated Nintendo Switch games on them, as well as the odd Game Pass title (with a telescoping GameSir Xbox mounted controller thing) and then I realized I really had no use for them. I rarely played, and my most recent phone purchases have been mid-range.

That said, so much is now possible on Android. You can emulate everything from Switch to PS3, use pretty front-ends to use as a launcher station (a quick note of appreciation for the totally FOSS option - Lemuroid), and as unbelievable as it still is to me, you can even play full PC games like GTA V using winlator

The scene for Android emulation is incredibly dramatic with frequent in-fighting, but also pretty impressive from a technical standpoint. It’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea - and that’s fine, but the mobile scene which isn’t just gatcha games hooking kids on the Play Store is so varied. Then you’ve got actually impressive games like DREDGE getting a Android release, replete with custom builds and changes for the Android system (no lazy ports!). Heck, even No Man’s Sky is coming to Android soon!

toofpic, do games w Patient Gamers - Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?

Still Project Zomboid, it’s been like 10 years. The game have evolved, and current unstable version includes a lot of completely overhauled mechanics. I’ve seen some bugs, but those guys know their job, so even a “buggy” content works better than some “released” other games.
Recently got Green Hell, and this is one of the best survival experiences I’ve seen. Basically you are dehydrated, starving, and infested by parasites in South American jungle, but on a good side, you have some meat to fry if you won’t die before you’ll manage to make fire.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Waiting on Build 42 to get multiplayer so I can play it with my brother…

I’m going to be waiting a long time again, aren’t I?

toofpic,

I think so - to sync all of the new stuff (ragdolls alone) for multiple people is a big work. And I already had a multiplayer-like bug where the game hung on me when I was driving. When I reloaded, the car was stopping in front of me, and I was standing on the road with zeds around. I survived, but damn!
They changed survival with the animals - I’m living on a farm, drinking milk, making bone stuff

I adore your posts and will miss them dearly, but please take care of yourself and focus on your health. Don’t push yourself, if I understand right extra stress is particularly bad.

Much love ♥️

I haven’t seen the Lego games mentioned here. (Lego Indian Jones, Lego Batman, etc.)

They tend to be story driven, and have excellent amounts of play-testing, resulting in an enjoyable playthrough that I’ve always been able to finish.

(Except Lego Dimensions, which was developed separately, and not to the same play-testing standards.)

brygphilomena,

Lego games are great for just putting on and playing. So very little intro tutorials and learning. They just are fun.

I’m in the same boat where I don’t want anything that takes too long to get into. I don’t have the time to learn complex mechanics anymore.

Pretty sure that if you have a Dualshock 4 or 5,there should be a way to just use that! Modern controllers should work as generic Bluetooth controllers

pimento64, do games w Are there any Android controllers with split D-pads?

Is there a reason you can’t use a Playstation controller?

kayky,

How can I get them to pair with Android?

I don’t know much about it, but it looks like something specific is required ti pair controllers with an Android phone. I can pair them just fine with my PC.

I’m mostly asking out of curiosity; a regular Playstation controller isn’t able to hold the phone.

scott,

It’s been like more than a decade but there was some script I used to mod a PS3 controller (via USB) to connect to generic Bluetooth devices. They use Bluetooth, it’s just something specific value that needed tweaked.

glimse,

Hold Home and Screenshot until it turns on and starts flashing then pair it on your phone

Quetzalcutlass,

You need to hold the PS button and select (I’ll never stop calling it that) until the LED starts flashing, then it’ll be in pairing mode.

You can buy phone mounts for PlayStation controllers. It’d definitely be cheaper than a whole new controller.

kayky,

Thanks a ton for explaining this for me. I tried it out and it worked like a charm.

Now I will look for phone mounts.

@Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world avatar

If you liked Skyrim, check out Enderal - it’s a total conversion mod, but in Steam as it’s own game. It’s much more linear than Skyrim - the world still feels open, but it’s much more dense, and it’s scaled more like a traditional RPG, so if you wander off the intended path too far, you’ll get your ass beat by mobs that are much higher level than you.

Side quests are meh, with a notable exception of the Rhalata line, which is kind of like a combo of thieves guild and dark brotherhood. Main quest line is fucking wild.

If you skip the vast majority of side quests, you might have an issue with scaling, since you’ll be missing out on all that xp. If you run into that and don’t want to do the quests, just use the command console to cheat some in.
