Peffse, do games w Can anyone suggest some good co-op games for two people?

Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2

Edit: Oh, Neverwinter Nights

Stormrvr,
@Stormrvr@lemmy.world avatar

Do you find that NWN still holds up well today? I used to play it a lot when it first came out (first campaigns then dlc then persistant world servers), I haven’t really played the enhanced edition much yet, so just wondered.

Peffse,

ooh, umm. I actually haven’t played it since 2018. I can’t speak for Enhanced Edition as that came out like a month after I completed the campaign.

Stormrvr,
@Stormrvr@lemmy.world avatar

Ahh right on - I had a lot of love for that game, so was curious. Might have to try it again regardless :)

vikingtons, do gaming w Is it worth upgrading from a Ryzen 7 3800X to a Ryzen 7 5700X3d?
@vikingtons@lemmy.world avatar

If you intend to keep this platform for a while longer then for sure grab a Vermeer x3d. I think you’ll feel a pretty decent improvement in 1% and .1% lows

With that said, I’m not sure if cyberpunk in particular will benefit too much from this. If that’s your primary motivator for upgrading, then maybe hold off until you want to move on to a DDR5 (or later) platform?

Infernal_pizza,
@Infernal_pizza@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah I can’t justify a whole new PC at the moment, and with a cpu and gpu upgrade to something like a 4070 I should be able to get several more years out of it.

Cyberpunk wasn’t my only reason for an upgrade but it was one of the main ones, I’d heard the newer dlc content is quite cpu intensive. However I’ve just checked the steam page and the recommended requirements seem to have gone up again to a 7800X3d

vikingtons,
@vikingtons@lemmy.world avatar

For phantom liberty? I don’t really see how it would be. Seems to have run fine on my 5800x3d + nv21 at 1440p

Seems like I’m probably better off leaving it for now or just upgrading my gpu instead

corvett, do games w What games popularized certain mechanics?

Note: read “first” as “first popular/important”, not just for this thread but for most conversations across media like this.

Spelunky was the first “Roguelite” that brought permadeath with meta progression to another genre, starting the modern wave of Roguelites.

Pokemon kicked off “monster collection” as a mechanic

To my knowledge, Halo was the first major game to do regenerating health

drphungky, do games w What games popularized certain mechanics?

DOTA popularized and also invented the battle pass mechanic.

PraiseTheSoup,

You mean DotA 2, but DotA (warcraft 3 map) also popularized the MOBA genre. It wasn’t the first MOBA however, as I believe that title belongs to an earlier StarCraft map called Aeon of Strife. But StarCraft didn’t have a robust enough hero system for it to really catch on.

OttoVonNoob, do games w What games popularized certain mechanics?

I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone say Pokemon. From a. monster collecting/battle game nothing has really came close.

SloppilyFloss, do gaming w best GBA games? I need recommendations

Yoshi’s Island!

Anticorp, do games w What games popularized certain mechanics?

Warcraft started an entire genre of games. Blizzard took that concept and created StarCraft, which spawned million dollar tournaments.

Pea666,

You mean RTS games? Warcraft is from ‘94, two years after Dune 2 was released.

rimjob_rainer,

I think he means Mobas or Tower Defense games

RootBeerGuy,
@RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yeah, however before Warcraft there was Dune II. But I am not sure which one was more popular at the time and I think Dune II came way before Warcraft.

I think why Dune II is more notable though is that the first Dune game was more of an adventure style came, not a strategy game. Then they changed the game with its successor and introduced the asymmetrical factions that each had a few unique units with differing strategies.

Warcraft took that concept further of course. But even there its rather Warcraft II that really had a big breakthrough.

The Sims for the scrub-the-toilet mechanic.

Trying to actually get the good ending in Tunic, not too proud to admit I’m using a tracker this time around. And wow, I passed up SO. MUCH. last time around

Poopfeast420,
@Poopfeast420@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I played Tunic last December and loved it, and while I found a lot of stuff, I definitely needed some help to get the good ending. I was definitely glad to have done so though.

LallyLuckFarm,

There’s just so much hidden goodness inside! My last playthrough has me struggling less, and I found more, but apparently I just wasn’t thorough enough

Panties,

That game is awesome! I loved the tutorial book system so much.

Coelacanth, do games w Looking for Overwatch alternatives
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Others have suggested Deadlock and that really sounds like the perfect game for you two, but be aware of one thing: it does require shooting. In the laning phase last hitting and securing the orbs from creep kills by shooting them is absolutely crucial, as the game will snowball out of control if one team outfarms the other.

mox, do games w Looking for Overwatch alternatives

Gigantic was recently re-released, but I don’t know if they’ve fixed the worst of the bugs yet.

PenisDuckCuck9001, do games w Is 4gb vram enough to run read dead redemtion 2?

I bet it would probably work. You mentioned you’re buying this, just make sure you’re not getting ripped off. This isn’t a very good system for gaming (considering how ridiculous system requirements for modern games are) so I hope your guy isn’t trying to pass that off as such. You can get stuff like this really cheaply on ebay, especially if you have the patience to bargain hunt.

Carighan, do games w What’s a game you can 100% without hating by the end?
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Oh that’s really rare for me, since I’m not a person who can generally do “grindy” parts well if the grind extends past what is clearly the main intent of the game (that is, usually the story).

The last game I 100%ed is Pineapple On Pizza. A free 10 minute game, 20 if you go for all achievements. Says a lot about me I suppose. 😅

However, I do sometimes go after rare achievements because the ideas behind them sound intriguing to me. But I can’t be arsed to go for all the other stuff, ingame and external, too. One good example of something I had to do is that the expansion Hate Plus has an achievement that for the longest time would get manually credited by the dev if, at a fitting moment in the story, you bake an actual cake and take a picture with it in front of the monitor at that scene.
Was time to bake something again, anyways. 🎂

AngryCommieKender,

You’d probably be able to 100% Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. Only about an hour or two to finish the game, and another 15-30 minutes to figure out the two extra achievements.

MimicJar, do games w What’s a game you can 100% without hating by the end?
@MimicJar@lemmy.world avatar

For Pokemon Legends Arceus I think what would prevent me from playing it again after 100% isn’t the amount of repeated tasks to max out the Pokedex, most of which are fun and a few of which just suck. I think it’s the slow dialogue/gameplay. When playing the actual game I’m usually having fun. When I’m stuck in a forced tutorial or dialogue it’s just a slog.

MimicJar, do games w What’s a game you can 100% without hating by the end?
@MimicJar@lemmy.world avatar

Metroid Dread.

I beat the game on Normal, then went back to 100% it, then immediately played again on Hard mode, beat that and 100% it again.
