As written, this is a tough one to answer. I’m well served in most genres bar a few, and I probably wouldn’t want to see new entries from the people who made the old ones. For instance, I miss stealth games and Splinter Cell, but I wouldn’t want Ubisoft to make it. I would love to see a new Metal Arms, but Blizzard (and now also Microsoft) owns that one. I miss racing games like Burnout and F-Zero, but I wouldn’t trust EA or Nintendo to make a successor that makes me happy. So really, I think I want new stuff that’s more of a spiritual successor type of deal.
I’ve been wanting a new, proper Splinter Cell for years. Michael Ironside is cancer free now and still alive for a couple more years (hopefully). I dream of Sam Fischer getting a final send-off with the correct voice actor. “One final job” with him old and grey. But yeah, Ubisoft wouldn’t make it right, sadly.
without having read any comments i bet 99% of them are people telling you that you shouldnt give your daughter girly games even if it is she who wants them.
Isnt Icefrog one of the lead devs? I guess he likes this style of game. How many Total Wars, 4x and CoDs were released while Valve made one more Dota-like. Valve has some cool people working, vut O don’t see a Suda51, a Raphael, Swery or Co, who has the focus to develope such a single player experience. If the flat structure with ‘at will’ project focus is still a thing, than sp games have probably a problem getting devs.
Since they are probably working on other stuff as well could this mean that Icefrog is the only lead who can take a project to completion reliably within Valve’s organizational structure?
It’s very similar but nowhere near as good. I got it for free on playstation a while back and stopped playing it to go back and play the dead space remake again.
A few I’ve played with a friend of mine: the We Were Here series, Portal 2, Monster Hunter World, Factorio and Deep Rock Galactic (which we both didn’t like, but it’s pretty popular)
The whole We Were Here series is marvelous. Asymmetrical co-op puzzle games. My friend and I’s recent games list looks very similar to this.
We also do a lot of single player games with one of us streaming over discord. When it’s a slow-burn puzzle or mystery game, it doesn’t really matter who is actually controlling.
For those types, I really recommend Return of the Obra Dinn. We’re currently working our way through the entire Frogwares Sherlock Holmes collection. The old ones are so terrible, which is a greatness all by itself.
I dispute the Serious Sam claim. The LucasArts iMUSE system was doing things like that years before. Even among fps games, the first Dark Forces game used it.
It’s also possible they just didn’t know. LucasArts didn’t push the system all that much in their PR. You’ll see it in some bullet points on the retail boxes, and articles of the time might make a passing reference to it. It was quite a remarkable system for the time and they were very low key about it.
It sure feels like more than half of them label themselves as some blend of metroidvania, as long as it isnt a cardbattler or a roguelike, its 100% going to label itself a metroidvania.
For Honour. It’s a competitive sword fighting game. You’ll like the combat system. She’ll like devising a strategy on how best to lead the creeps to overrun the enemy castle.
Or maybe you’ll prefer Foxhole, a persistent trench warfare simulation game where players manufacture every bullet and build every fortification. It’s not as fast paced as Overwatch, but I bet she’ll like digging a trench for you to use for cover as you nail fools and slowly take ground from the enemy.
