Try F-Droid, there’s some good quality games in their listing, and it’s a lot more transparent than the Play store.

There’s also a lot more indies (whether new or old) that have made it to mobile, like Stardew Valley, Terraria and Dungeon Clawler, so it’s worth checking out the “premium” category on the Play store to find some decent games too

P4ulin_Kbana,

Nah. There are few games on F-Droid, and most of them haven’t been updated in years. But could you please list some of them?

TeMccm2ZgLSE,

I play a lot of Shattered Pixel Dungeon. There is an unofficial release on f-droid

kronarbob, do games w what was the last game you played in 2024?

Skyrim… First try with adamant perks.

prole,

Why do people still play this game??

kronarbob,

Why not ? There is so much mods that you can play new adventures, with the feeling of being at home.

The base game is full of flaws, but the community makes it really enjoyable.

The balance of skills, the graphics, even the story can be changed. That’s why I like to play it again and again. I can play a Skyrim that people built. And with the perks mod, I can build so much differents characters, I really love that.

And with skyblivion coming this year, I’m not even close to stop playing it.

rbos, do games w Would "suggest price" be a positive option for steam?
@rbos@lemmy.ca avatar

They could add a bid price, so that you automatically buy at a certain price level. Sure, you could bid 0.10, but they’d probably never actually take it. And that way, they could know how much money is laying on the table. If there’s a thousand bids for $50, that gives them a pricing signal.

haui_lemmy,

Exactly my thought. Thank you for pointing that out.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

This sounds like it would just end up speedrunning Steam’s refund system. Plus, I don’t think it’s desirable for the seller. If they feel their game is worth some price, but a bunch of people know they can bully other developers into a race to the bottom, that could easily be a negative feedback loop.

tinwelint, do games w Would "suggest price" be a positive option for steam?

I think that would be abused pretty quickly to get games sold at 60+ down to 1 or less.

When I was young I always wondered why the nhl games had a 16+ rating and Fifa had 3+. Figured both of them where ordinary sports.

Apparently fighting automatically shoots that nhl rating to the same level as GTA and balantro.

Isn’t female witcher technically a witch? 🤔

kazerniel,
@kazerniel@lemmy.world avatar

that implies that men are witch-er than a female witch? :D

Allonzee,

I don’t think so.

I think being a Witcher is a distinct moniker In universe for the training/vocation of hunting magical monsters.

The usual male analogues in media for witch are wizards and/or warlocks

Kazumara,

In general English usage I think you may be right.

In the world of “The Witcher” (which is translated from Polish) there are both male and female mages with inborn abilities. Sometimes they are called sorcerers and sorceresses, sometimes they are called mages, sometimes they are called something related to their specialisation of magic, and sometimes wise women who do magic but didn’t go to the academy are called witches.

Witchers, however, are not mages. They are made from ordinary humans and are gene manipulated and highly trained to be monster hunters. They have some witcher powers that are related to runes, and they make potions that have side effects only they can survive thanks to their manipulated bodies. Witchers at birth do not have special potential. Though a lot of little witcher trainees die, so you could argue they are artificially selected in that way.

Ciri is kind of neither of those, but she has special abilities related to space and time manipulation. In the new trailer it seems she drinks a witcher potion, but from what we know she never underwent the manipulation that witchers did.

GunValkyrie,

Cdpr confirmed that she underwent the trials and is now a Witcher.

Maggoty,

Weren’t the mutagens for the trials destroyed in canon? It will be interesting to see how they get around this.

vaultdweller013,

Could be that she used her space time powers to find a more stable version. Or who knows all the crossovers could be canon and she grabbed some bullshit from monster hunter or some shit.

_cryptagion,

She might have done the trials with another school. In the trailer, she is wearing a feline witcher medallion, not a wolf one. I don’t think the lore ever mentions the School of the Cat having their mutagens destroyed.

vaultdweller013,

Im not really into the lore, more of a Warhammer fantasy guy I was just making a guess based off of the sheer number of crossovers. Seriously that shit is absurd, its like a reverse Scooby-Doo.

_cryptagion,

I’m not too far into the lore either, but the Witcher audiobooks jsut happened to be up next in my listening queue, so I guess I’ll find out about all that pretty soon.

_cryptagion,

The Wolf school had it’s mutagens destroyed, yes. But in the trailer, it appears Ciri is wearing a feline medallion, implying that she is somehow affiliated with the School of the Cat now.

Maggoty,

Ahhh okay. I missed that bit.

Kazumara,
Trantarius,

IIRC, the original polish “witcher” was made by taking word for “witch” and changing the grammatical gender to be masculine. Evidently this was not an existing word meaning “male witch”, and so was better translated as “witcher” (ie a made up word clearly derived from “witch”) instead of “witch” or “wizard”.

I don’t get it, Witcher already has a bunch of female protagonists.

Cowbee, (edited ) do pcgaming w Budget gaming: steam deck or build a cheap gaming PC?
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

You are sacrificing power for mobility and playability with the Steam Deck. I own both a Steam Deck and a gaming PC, and I use each for different games. These days, modern AAA gaming often can’t run on Steam Deck well, including some hits like Baldurs Gate 3 (in the 3rd Act, the rest is fine). However, 75% of my overall gaming time is on the Deck these days. The ability to turn it on and just start playing on the couch or in bed is fantastic, and the support for different control schema like gyro and touchpads make it incredibly playable.

A modest PC is going to push better graphics and higher refresh rates, and will also make some games actually playable, but this becomes a decent sacrifice in mobility and convenience.

If mobility is merely a bonus and your deck would be docked the vast majority of the time, I’d go PC, but I suggest seriously considering the convenience of portable play even within your home. The OLED screen is wonderful for years-old AAA games that go for 2 dollars on Sale, indies, and more. I’m absolutely having a blast with Crosscode and intend on moving over to Another Crab’s Treasure and Nine Sols next.

BarrelAgedBoredom,

I honestly haven’t considered using the steam deck in my house outside of the dock. Playing on the couch is definitely an enticing idea. The prospect of poor AAA support isn’t a huge deal. Baldurs gate 3, the new dragon age, the new Warhammer game (if that’s considered AAA), helldivers, and the new god of war games are the only recent titles that have jumped out at me. I’ve really wanted to get more into indie games, theres so many that seem interesting and innovative, and with the pace of steam deck adoption, I feel like I wouldn’t be missing out on much with it. I’m still 50/50 on the decision. Gaming around the house has definitely given me something more to consider though!

Cowbee,
@Cowbee@lemmy.ml avatar

The Steam Deck is how I prefer to play the majority of indies, so if that’s your goal, it’s great. Watch performance videos though of games you are interested in.

dual_sport_dork, do games w Making peace with liking very few games?
@dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t think you’re alone in this. I’m kind of becoming the same way, and I figure it’s because as you become older you become wiser, specifically wiser to the way that so many modern games are bullshit now.

Nowadays it seems like almost everything is just a cynical cash grab. And with a lifetime of experience, you know how to spot that bullshit. Oh look, it has always online components. And an in game store. And season content. And gatcha mechanics. And grind. Not only just regular old grind, you know, where you need to level up and be at least be this tall to beat the beef gate (which always has the tantalizing possibility of being able circumvent it by cheesing it or being very clever). No, it’s just grind with no mechanical justification. You must fill the bar before you’re allowed to access this content. Would you like to make a microtransaction to fill the bar faster?

Fuck that, and count me out.

The current fascination is on delivering games as a “service,” and that just rubs me the wrong way. Everything is transient, nothing is permanent, and everyone is making a desperate grab for recurring revenue over creating a compelling experience or indeed anything anyone would ever want to go back to and play again. It’s all just crap designed to feed into people’s sunk cost brains, and it feels like damn near every major title wants to be your full time job.

I have even started eschewing Nintendo titles and some modern indie stuff specifically because they display a complete and utter disrespect for not only the player’s intelligence, but also their time.

DrumbeatF, (edited ) do games w Are there games with real collision detection?
@DrumbeatF@sopuli.xyz avatar

Exanima, it’s mostly a testing ground for a game the devs want to make around this concept. It’s a good time, and also exactly what I think you’re looking for.
Not to bury the lede, it is a fairly full featured action game, but there’s not really a story element at this stage.
store.steampowered.com/app/362490/Exanima/

lemba,

Wow, this looks like fun. Thx for the tip

ArtikBanana,

I also had Exanima in mind.
The story is actually already there, it’s just easy to miss :)
Although I’m guessing once they finish up work on the AI, roles and dialogue system soon, there’ll be more of it.

DrumbeatF,
@DrumbeatF@sopuli.xyz avatar

True, somewhat of a “look for the story and you’ll find it” dark souls vibe. I got the impression from dev logs that the end goal is a more traditional RPG story

ArtikBanana,

I believe that’s more of a goal for Sui Generis. Which is the game they initially begun working on (and still are).
They do have some dialogue with Derrin that gives us some lore, so I’m guessing we’ll get more of that.
