Ok_imagination, do games w Been getting more and more obsessed with supermarket simulators recently 🛒. These are my favourites, what are yours?

Lol don’t think I’ve played one. What would you recommend as the first?

Novamdomum,
@Novamdomum@fedia.io avatar

I would have said Super Mini Mart when I started this thread but then @Kolanaki mentioned Supermarket Simulator and I've been playing it ever since (13hrs so far lol). It's got a few issues out of the box, including some oddly loud chirpy bird sounds but also has such an active nexus mod community that you can pretty much fix anything you want that you don't like in it (including those damn birds😆). Id' say give either that or Super Mini Mart a go. The inKonbini prologue demo is great too.

can we get much higher?

HuntressHimbo, do gaming w How much does storage speed affect your games?

Solid state used to be basically required for Total War so the map loads would be quick. Still quicker but not as essential anymore

Sonotsugipaa,

They cared to optimize for hard disks? Odd but respectable

HuntressHimbo,

I think mostly they just optimized load times in general, so the difference is a bit less stark

Sonotsugipaa,

Makes more sense ig

I mean, yeah. Did people think it wasn’t? It was announced weeks ago.

chloyster,

I mean yes it’s obviously real but we don’t have a release date yet and this is the first direct team cherry communication in quite a long time

TechSpot / Hardware Unboxed did some tests (on Windows, where DirectStorage is available so this will alter some of the results compared to your own context) on this recently: https://www.techspot.com/article/3023-ssd-gaming-comparison-load-times/ (video form: YouTube)

In their results (which again may not map 1:1 to your own environment given OS differences etc), there was some difference when moving from a SATA SSD to a "slow" (by current standards) PCIe gen 3 NVMe SSD, but pretty negligible difference beyond that within gaming contexts when moving from that to other, newer/faster NVMe SSDs.

If I were to hazard a guess for your specific setup (assuming you're currently loading mostly from a SATA SSD), it sounds like you might eke out a small loading speed improvement with either a RAID0 (or similar) SATA SSD setup or by moving to an NVMe drive, but the gains are probably only going to be generally meaningful if you're able to somehow use DirectStorage (or a "Linux'd" version of it) somehow. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was the only game within the tested samples that saw meaningful improvements without using DirectStorage when moving to something faster than a single SATA SSD.

Sonotsugipaa,

Thanks for the link, it addresses both of the doubts I’ve expressed in the post; perhaps at some point I’ll play a game with DS and see how well it carries over to Linux despite the lack of a similar API, I’ll probably stick to the small RAID0 fs I already have and use it for X4 or something.

My only critique of it is the lack of variety. Not a lot of enemies, or weapons. I hope it gets a sequel.

I thought the weapons were samey until I saw some videos discussing it. The weapon combination system is crazy! Some of them genuinely feel unique, playable, and fresh (though I did not reason my way into any of these on my own).

C&C Red Alert 2

I played it as a kid 25 years ago, but Day9 was replaying it recently and I had to go back and try it. It’s so good, especially the campy live action cutscenes 🤌. There was definitely a lot of humor that went over my head as a kid 😂.

IMHO, bom jeno prosty praktyk, kombinacja:

finalnie, acz odważna a niepoparta dowodami hipoteza:

  • “rozmycie znaczeniowe” wiadomości i toku myślenia – mam wrażenie, że niektórym osobom precyzja, jednoznaczność myśli i wypowiedzi oraz konieczna dla ich utrzymywania samodyscyplina – kojarzą się z opresją, stresem, nie są naturalne. Według mnie związane z Relatywizmem, czyli składową m.in. Postmodernizmu – usankcjonowaną względnością świata i wartościowań. Ludzie dziś akceptują większą liczbę sprzeczności i niekonsekwencji – ponoć przejaw tzw. zjawiska postprawdy, a za nim – postpolityki. Trzebaby zapytać mistrza Noama i/lub Slavoja.

Istnieje wyjątek, wręcz subwersja kulturowa – tzw. kropka nienawiści.

Currently preparing for a Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous playthrough, but I might play something else before then.

I’m definitely not gonna make my own builds, nor am I interested in that, with the hundreds of feats and spells in the game, many of which are just traps and no real way to learn. So I’m going through a bunch of different guides, a lot of which are outdated, and am currently creating a spreadsheet for me to reference, so I don’t have to sift through different videos and websites, every time I level up or do some other stuff (like the Crusade mode). I did the same for my BG3 Honor Mode playthroughs, and it makes everything so much more convenient.

Continuing my ninja adventures by playing Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360 version) this week. Since the original has such a fierce following and the remaster from this year was somewhat controversial I wanted to play it first to see how NG2B with the “White” mod holds up. It was a little more involved setting up emulation than NGB and Xemu, but it’s running well now albeit with minor graphical glitches. I actually for once kinda wish I had an Xbox Series X though for that native 4k60 HDR.

So far I’m enjoying myself. The highs of the game are really high, even compared to the first game: those frenetic massive hallway fights against hordes of aggressive ninjas are just pure adrenaline rushes and thrilling but stressful in the best way. While the combat in the first game was fast, it was still very measured and deliberate. This time it’s just pure coke-fuelled rabid frenzy.

The improved graphics, animations and gore also make the spectacle of combat heightened and the dismemberment mechanic is really fun and surprisingly strategic to play with.

Some enemies are just shit to fight though, like the dogs and the flying bat demons you have to take out with ranged attacks. Also the bosses have been very hit or miss. Genshin and the spider monster were fun but I was really close to quitting the game over Gigadeath between being one of the worst bosses in gaming and glitching out of the arena 25% of the time.

I’d really like to beat it but we’ll see how far I get.
