Strayce, do gaming w A post about a dead game

Oh I remember that. Played pretty regularly for a couple years during lockdown IIRC then completely forgot about it. Shame, it was pretty fun.

Shimitar,

Never found anything like that. What an idiot Dev.

MystikIncarnate, do gaming w Let's discuss: Assassin's Creed

I had to stop playing when I saw the review for AC 3 (I think) from Zero punctuation.

He pointed out that the quests were almost entirely “gofer” quests… You know, you go over there and get that, then go fer that other thing and go…

I started the game not long after and I have to say, he was right. And every time I was given a quest to go somewhere only to talk to someone with little to no reason for doing so other than, I have nothing better to do in the game… When that happened, I heard his voice in my head talking about how annoying gofer quests were.

It annoyed me, and I stopped playing as a result. Never got past the first chapter.

krellor, do games w How many games do you manage to play at the same time?

If you get paralyzed picking which story game to play next, maybe getting really picky about which ones make the list and then literally roll the dice or use an RNG generator to pick one. If they are all good, and your gameplay spread across a long time with work and kids, then any "mood" you are in, in the moment, will be averaged out over time. If you get into a game and find it really just isn't for you, give yourself permission to move on.

In short, make the decision less consequential to avoid paralysis. That was my method anyway, being in similar situation with life time constraints.

I’m an independent games reviewer, so 1. But even before I did that, I still could only play 1 at a time.

What is your process like ? Do you keep notes as you play through ?

LovingHippieCat,

Yeah sorta. I write the review as I go. Whenever a thing jumps out at me or I have moments where I’m focusing on a specific thing frequently, I’ll write about a paragraph about it and then move on. Sometimes a long one, sometimes a short one. Once I’m finished with the game, I go back through and edit and restructure and get rid of some things that ended up not being important or change some of my thoughts based on how the game develops. Sometimes, early on, something jumps out at me and I write something about it, and then later on that thing gets fixed and I just get rid of the whole paragraph.

Thats cool, I imagined as much that it is an evolving sentiment as you play. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t really bother but I do have some related stuff like unofficial patches and fan remakes/mods of my favourite games.

Emberleaf, do gaming w What games are you nostalgic towards but wouldn't go back and play?
@Emberleaf@lemmy.ml avatar

LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) for me. Fantastic community back in the day, and the game itself was fun, too. Now, though, the gameplay is just too restrictive and oftentimes tedious by today’s standards. I really do miss the community, though. I made a lot of great memories there.

thingsiplay, do gaming w What games are you nostalgic towards but wouldn't go back and play?
  • Breath of Fire 2 (SNES): I don’t know how I managed to finish this game. It’s too drawn out, didn’t have an interesting story to follow with meaningless and annoying stuff to do and the random battles was too often.
  • Killer Instinct (SNES): I played this game seriously, learning the combos and fighting competitive with a friend. But nowadays it just does not feel good to play.
  • Toshinden (PSX): Similar to Killer Instinct, I played this game seriously with a competitive friend. Playing it today, I just can’t do it.

Good choice. I’ve been going back and forth between Timberborn and Satisfactory for about the past month.

Same! I’ve got over 200 hours in so far. It scratches that itch so well.
