kurcatovium,

Checkmate! I don’t even have 180 mbps internet lane. Deal with it Microsoft!

/s

kurcatovium,

I had a good fun with Bulletstorm. Kind of a game where you can put your brain on hold and enjoy the ride.

kurcatovium,

If GOG are such a freedom heroes why do they rely on megacorp Windows OS? That’s what I like about steam - it makes gaming on linux dumb easy. And not just on linux, their “package” is ridiculously good - mods, cummunity, reviews, friends, non stop sales, mobile app (although I hate they removed chat to standalone app), and much, much more.

I’m not shitting on GOG. I love those guys, they brought back so much memories with reviving long forgotten games, I have hundreds of purchases there. But… it just needs a lite more polish (pun intended).

kurcatovium,

Not sire how it’s now, but couple years ago that “new galaxy” thing felt like it was precisely crafted to NOT run on linux. I tried multiple ways to run it, but all of them were unstable, crashing and very laggy. The best one was through Bottles but still… Heroic came and was instantly way ahead.

kurcatovium,

I’m playing Disco Elysium right now! It’s a blast, love it. Gonna check this out asap.

Wireless mouse with silent switches recommendation angielski

Hello, not sure whether this is right place to ask, but I’ll ask anyway. I’m looking for mouse replacement, but I do need the mouse to be quieter than your usual “click click clik”, as I often use it in the evening in a room with other people sleeping. Usage is about 50:50 office and single player gaming, so I don’t...

kurcatovium,

Soldering should be fine, this will probably end up as long winter evening project at some point. Was it possible to re-use gliders after dismembering the mouse?

Swelling problem won’t be fixed as easy. The material of the wheel just expanded, the rubber is twice as big as new one to the point it can’t fit in its hole in the mouse. Internet is full of the same problems, it was either defective batch or it reacts with some specific agent in some people’s sweat. Never the less, the only way is to replace the whole wheel. Need to find out which of my friends have a 3D printer…

kurcatovium,

I have two problems with this.

  1. I consider Razer the most over-hyped and over-priced peripheral producer. The products I’ve seen were not bad, but did cost at least twice as much as their feel suggested. I don’t want to support this.
  2. Tilt-wheel. Every mouse I’ve held that had tilt wheel was PITA in the long run. I probably grip the mouse wrong, but I very often tilted the wheel instead pressing the button.
kurcatovium,

I believe they learned how to milk those buyers hardcore…

kurcatovium,

I can recommend Age of Wonders games. Classic series is fantasy but there’s also sci-fi spinoff Planetfall which you might enjoy even more.

Edit: Also Civilization obviously. I recommend especially 5.

Edit 2: If you don’t mind really old games, check out Master of Orion 1/2.

kurcatovium,

It was indeed great game. Second one improved it to almost perfection, at least for its time.

kurcatovium,

I really do like the idea of switch and might be a potential buyer, but… as a long time PC user woth zero console experience I’ll pass. I don’t want to (re)buy games that seems to be quite overpriced on Nintendo. So if anything, I’d be buying Steam Deck.

kurcatovium,

Ha, I have no friends so couch co-op is out of the question… /s

kurcatovium,

Exactly. Not only the games are still (even after many years) very expensive with not that much “steam sale” level of discounts or various humble/fanatical bundles, it’s Nintendo’s behavior that is the most off putting part in the equation.

kurcatovium,

Well, technically yes, but why pay even a couple quids when I already have purchased the game on PC? Of course there’s this “To support the dev!” but honestly… How much he’s going to make from such a purchase after all?

This is why I find Steam Deck the most tempting handheld console, because it can play (almost) all the games I’ve purchased over last decade on both Steam and GOG. I’m no Nintendo fanboy so I can happily live without Mario or Zelda.

kurcatovium,

Glad to hear that. Although I’m not fast reader (not even in my mother tongue) I like reading when it is meaningful. I chewed through Planescape: Torment after all…

As for time, I’m not strictly limited to exactly 1 hour. It’s just I simply can’t play 5 hours straight like a teenager can… so one hour was an estimate. Sometimes it’s an hour, sometimes it’s two.

After all it looks DE should be ok and this short burst shouldn’t spoil it. Thank you.

kurcatovium,

I manage to play usually about 4 nights a week, so about day or two between sessions. This should be okay.

Reading all the comments, it looks like DE might be great pick for this interrupted play through. Glad to hear that, because everyone says it’s a great game.

Even though I have games like Skyrim or Kingdom Come at my account, it’s almost impossible to dig into those with this kind of gaming schedule. LA Noire was really great game for this.

kurcatovium,

Thank you for heads up. Will definitely give it a try.

kurcatovium,

Nice, thank you. This should be very helpful in case I won’t have time to play at all. Which is what sometimes happen, life is life, so you never know…

kurcatovium,

Well, since I’m not native speaker I sometimes tend to miss some words/context without reading “subtitles” during voiceovers. On the other hand I’m glad there’s voiceover because it usually helps with immersion.

Fail to progress reminds me of my playthrough of Fallout 1 with very low INT character. Some conversation were priceless. It was usually things like “Mmmhm, unga bunga, huh” from my character and then sigh from the NPC like “Oh no, another village idiot…” I highly recommend to at least check some of these low int conversations on youtube - hillarious.

kurcatovium,

That is brilliant and that’s shat I love about old Fallouts.

kurcatovium,

What was supposed to be possible for streamers to say then? “Well I can’t criticize, so the game must be great. Ehm, is it? Nobody can say.”

kurcatovium,

I’d be happy to get og Unreal Tournament in UE5 too. I’ve sink plenty of hours into the game back then in multiplayer with my friends. No time for that now, but still would be nice nostalgia trip.

kurcatovium,

The problem is original UT was one of a kind, at least for me. It had perfect balance of weapons, map design and overal game speed. Newer UTs were still pretty decent games, but felt very different to the original. Adding vehicles was fun for a while, but made the game totally different in its pace and everything. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia speaking for me, but I still feel the original was the best UT game by far.

As for Unreal itself, can’t comment much on that one as I’ve never really finished it. Somehow it just did not click with me.

kurcatovium,

Still better love story than Twilight.

kurcatovium,

If that’s what makes reagular game a great game, there are not many great games…

kurcatovium,

Discworld might be absolutely genius if done well. And of all the dev studios I believe Larian would be the best pick. Maybe throw in some co-op with Obsidian and I’m sold!

kurcatovium,

Well, this one is a bit special case. One of a generation…

kurcatovium,

Well, if we’re talking Path of Exile live service style, it’s completely fine. The game is perfectly playable and enjoyable for free and wallet opens you cosmetics and some nice to have features (like bigger stash etc.), basically nothing gamebreaking. I played it quite a lot on a casual level, waiting for new Diablo (not necesarilly blizzard Diablo, just the essence of the original 2). It is fun and I played it mostly for free, when I decided to spend about AA level game of money to support the devs. Nithing forced me to do so, I just enjoyed the game and wanted to support the company. And I still think it’s a great game and am looking forward to sequel.

But there’s also another live service other than this one. Like that Diablo Immortal one. I haven’t played it myself (and won’t ever do it), but the drama around it was quite a big one. And no wonder it was! Holy hell, they’re squeezing those balls hard. Even if the game was all fun and games I wouldn’t touch it with its style of microtransactions, loot gambling and other bullshittery.

If studuos are working on this second style live service, then they should probably go bankrupt straight away.

kurcatovium,

This is exactly the game that came to my mind when reading title. I loved old Mafia, but the remake? It’s not a bad game, but it lost like 90% of atmosphere original had. Like those cop chases that are utter joke that doesn’t belong to the game.

kurcatovium,

The price of the library is nearly the same, though… sad

kurcatovium,

Exactly this. Steam has one huge benefit for players: it made gaming pretty cheap. If you don’t need every game day 1 and you are patient, you can play dirt cheap. And I mean dirt cheap.

This is not entirely true for Nintendo, which tends to hold prices way higher. At least from the quick glance I made couple years ago when I was thinking about Switch.

kurcatovium,

You should redo them then.

I claim every free game Epic offers, not because I actually want to play them. I claim all those games because it costs Epic money. And that is my goal.

kurcatovium,

Then I’m at least skewing their estimates I hope.

kurcatovium,

Luckily EGS doesn’t even work on linux :-) Heroic is vastly better anyway.

kurcatovium,

I never stated I’m not acting silly. It’s true I don’t really like Epic nowadays so why not state my opinion this way? It’s a bit of a twist in “vote with your wallet” after all.

The games are not free, someone has to pay for them, at least something. And if it ain’t me…

kurcatovium,

And if investors are not dumb fu*ks, the would want something like “average expediture per user” and that’s another point for me!

kurcatovium,

Tell that to my TES: Oblivion character I picked only non combat skills as primary. Everything was fine when exploring landscape and forests, leveling peacefuly my alchemy, alteration or stealth and lockpicking. It was nice. Until I got to first oblivion gate and found out level scaling is a thing. Then I was f’d up pretty hard. Needless to say I never finished the game because of this.

kurcatovium,

Sad part is I did really like Oblivion world, but that level/power scaling was absolute shitshow that completely ruined it for me.

kurcatovium,

Or play both and pick your favourite.

kurcatovium,

As a filthy patient casual I’m waiting for complete edition l…

kurcatovium,

It felt like Oblivion reskin.

And Oblivion felt basically like Morrowind reskin with more polygons…

kurcatovium,

If this is work of 25 years, it’s honestly quite sad.

kurcatovium,

Sadly yes. Morrowind was Bethesda’s peak gaming moment tbh.

kurcatovium,

Both of you are rocking awesome games, so no worries…

kurcatovium,

I started Fallout New Vegas last month. It’s pretty neat so far, glad I finally got to it after … holy hell, it’s been THAT long!!!
