    Another lazy developed game that relies on the end user having extremely overpriced and over designed hardware to do the heavy lifting to make it run. If it doesnt work blame the users for not optimizing their hardware as you can see in their steam review responses.

    Also lazy RNG guns are not fun or balanced. Wild that a blue can be better than an orange gun just cause RNG rolled better.
    And enemies that dont stand out cause they 4k textured cell shaded enemies in natural colors?

    And lets not even get into the fact that they stole all the parts of this game from other big games. (Where have i seen a villian putting a brain implant into our main character, and then the ship crashing for us to figure out how to get it out while stumbling on a small outpost in struggle?) stuff I’d probably forgive if it ran and didnt look like it was trying to be everything and nothing.

    isn't speed freaks free?

    I mean there's like a couple of ok games there. If that Destiny bundle includes all the expansions and you're into those type of games then maybe...or you could just play Warframe. but yeah I'd pass on this.

    Blackmist,

    I had to reopen the picture, as I was thinking they’d remade the PS1 Speed Freaks.

    And now I’m disappointed again.

    _hovi_,

    It used to be but became paid (to people who didn’t already have it) on it’s full release. Honestly a fun game, but almost nobody plays it unfortunately so there is basically only one active lobby at a time while me and a friend were playing

    Edit: aside from the fun gameplay, you also get to spam voice lines. WAGGGHHHH

    sonalder, do games w Favorite Modded Console?

    Modded Wii is indeed awesome, I recommend you to check how to improve graphics on modern pannel if you don’t have a CRT TV.

    OG Switch modding is great but offline only if you want to be careful.

    3DS is indeed awesome for homebrew, I know PS Vita (especially the OLED one) are really appreciated.

    PS2 is another great system to mod and with of course the gamecube!

    For those that have played it. How’s it compare to borderlands 3 and Wonderlands?

    I thought the characters and story in 3 was bad but the gameplay was solid.

    I also felt wonderlands characters and story was fun but the gameplay kinda meh.

    themoken,

    Yeah, I also have this question. I loved playing 1 and 2 co-op but 3 and pre-sequel didn’t hold my attention at all. I’m happy to see good reviews but I’d like to hear a review from someone that doesn’t lose their access if they pan it…

    @ohshit604@sh.itjust.works avatar

    Garry’s Mod was fun, now the only servers that have people in them got ridiculous rulesets and the constant begging for donations & locking superior weapons behind a paywall gets old real quick.

    Not hard to spin up a docker container for a Garry’s mod server, these server hosters are abusing their position and think hosting a server is difficult.

    zrst,

    Yeah, I’ve noticed communities go to shit when admins start doing too much.

    It’s like they can’t help themselves because they have no power anywhere else in their lives.

    I hope its a direct response to Borderlands 3, the story and main characters in 3 were fucking awful. Removing the cuscenes from the game straight up made it better. The gameplay feel was good but thats it. Bring back characters like Jack, I dont even remember the 2 streamer wannabes names or want to.

    ampersandrew,
    @ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

    Having played through the entire series this year, they’ve constantly communicated via their actions that they’re aware of what the previous game’s shortcomings were, and they acknowledged as much for BL4 in the marketing materials as well. As for Jack, leave him be. We’ve killed him, killed his fucked up clone, killed the AI preservation of his consciousness, teamed up with him in a prequel, and allied with the Terminator 2 friendly version of him via a body double/face-off situation. We’ve had enough Jack. Come up with a new good villain, lol.

    normonator,

    “like Jack” More of that quality, not literally that character.

    Alright, fair enough. There are two ways to interpret that sentence in English, and I guess I read it the other way, haha.

    SnotFlickerman,

    I, for one, fucking hated Jack yapping in my ear for half of Borderlands 2. I still don’t understand the love for that chode.

    ampersandrew, do games w Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing this week?
    @ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

    The new DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II came out, Legacy of the Forge. I’m playing it after finishing the main game, but it’s looking like it will probably be best enjoyed when slotted into the main game. It’s early goings, but it looks like it will involve a lot of crafting and then selling things to upgrade your home, your shop, and your reputation. Still, there are new quests and more backstory for Henry’s “pa”, Martin, and I’ll take any excuse to play more of this game.

    I’ve been playing Mafia II: Definitive Edition. It’s a pretty good crime story that leans heavily on Goodfellas inspiration (I guess if you had to pick one, that’s the one to pick), but the gameplay often feels arbitrary, which is a weird way to put it but probably most accurate. There was one mission that was literally just drive to a place and drive back with some story in between. Most are simple setups where a firefight happens in the middle. There are mechanics from GTA IV present that don’t really fit back into Mafia II’s core loop. In other words, this game is totally fine but not exactly a masterpiece. It’s serviceable, and I miss crime stories in video games, so I’m playing through this series before I play The Old Country.

    I’ll also throw in an anti-recommendation for New Tales from the Borderlands. It animates well and looks nice, but this game basically is only story, and the story is awful. I played through it because I’ve now played through the rest of the Borderlands games, except Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and I suspect this game could be canon. If you don’t have the same compulsion to see the rest of the canon story that I do, steer clear. At least I’ve got Borderlands 4 waiting for me this weekend.

    I actually liked the ending too, but the more I thought about it, the more absurd it seemed.

    Ellie lives happily, except for her PTSD, with Deena and their kid.

    Tommy comes through and says he knows where Abby is, but is too messed up to go after her himself.

    Deena says don’t do it.

    Ellie goes anyway and proceeds to kill dozens of slavers, frees the slaves, then finds Abby, who is on the verge of dying.

    She then saves Abby’s life, kicks her malnourished butt, then let’s her go off on her way.

    Ellie returns home, hoping to find Deena and kid, but they are gone and her life is uprooted once again.

    The final act and epilogue just seemed so absurd to me for some reason. It was fun and well acted and directed, but it was a bit silly.

    NelDel,

    I think part of that silliness is intentional, at least in my interpretation of the game. The internal thesis of the game seems to be examining how far they can push the player-to-protagonist relationship until it breaks. Similar to the first game, where it was intended for players to have complicated feelings about having to control Joel in the hospital at the end doing something they may not have wanted to do but was 100% in character for Joel.

    Part 2 feels like that idea stretched across the entire game, especially for Ellie. There’s a pretty powerful metaphor for addiction in the form of addiction to violence/revenge, and I feel like going to Santa Barbara shows Ellie reaching her rock bottom. The player doesn’t want this (especially after playing as Abby), Dina doesn’t want this, hell part of Ellie doesn’t even want this. It’s just the main thing she knows how to solve her problems - through violence

    Italy?? Half life was inspired by eastern european aesthetics, the Ukraine more specifically. There’s a colonel Odessa for crying out loud.

    CorneliusCopernicus,

    We could have multiple locations for different experiences, and I hosted a few dodgeball practices in Odesa, Ukraine in 2021 and I hope to return to Ukraine soon!

    mathemachristian,

    I mean I dont have that kind of money and if I did it would go to Palestine but Italy seems weirdly expensive when you have romania right there.
