Ultima IX. I somehow never played the earlier installments despite being of the right age to have, and enjoyed the hell out of IX. In retrospect, the massive amounts of criticism were earned, I just came into it fresh and was enthralled by the world.

I am just about done with The Last of Us 1 and just picked up Expedition 33, both are amazing (even if I’m bad at parrying)

Also on playdate I’m playing bwirds, it’s a fun spelling game! Polished and has nice short play sessions

Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex Some YouTube analysis about it really broke the magic for me

I suppose Resident Evil 8? The scares weren’t very scary, the exploration was all very fake, and the bosses all showed up for attendance. It definitely functioned, but it didn’t impress in the way previous entries did. It wasn’t frustratingly bad like 5, nor was it interestingly bad like 6. It just felt like a lesser version of what they’ve given me before, somewhere between 4 and 7.

LaserTurboShark69,

My hill to die on is that RE7 and 8 should have been a new IP. I think both the Winters’ story and the overall Resident Evil plot would have stood stronger on their own and forcing them together in such a contrived way dilutes both of them.

The first Call of Duty game I played was Ghosts, and it may have coloured my perception of what the series is about. Bombastic popcorn munching action that goes in one ear and straight out of the other. I was like “eeeeh it’s okay”. After playing some older ones I was like “well I’m sure it was groundbreaking at the time”. (Hm. Did I ever finish MW2? And I think I put Black Ops 2 on hold after the first mission. Loved Advanced Warfare tho!)

DoucheBagMcSwag,

I hated ghosts but also enjoyed the bots that learned from actual players so they would behave like how players online would…and you would get XP too

Soon I saw them corner camp or even dropshot.

I cannot believe (actually I can since bots can’t monetize) that the idea of playing against bots where they would get smarter was never used again

Assault Spy comes to mind.

And Mad Max maybe?

Overspark,

Hell no, Mad Max was way more fun than it had any right to be. I’ll agree that on paper it didn’t look like anything special, with mechanics we’d seen lots of times in other games, but in practice everything came together as much more than the sum of it’s parts.

mohab,

Hmm… sure, but ima die on the hell Mad Max should be a linear game with sole focus on vehicular/melee combat. I don't really think it needs to be an open world game.

Overspark,

Fair, although it’s less open than it appears at first glance. The world is divided in parts that you unlock as the central story progresses, much like most RPGs.

caseofthematts,

I bought it quite cheap because it looked like a fun time, and have over the years since played through it 3 times. The gameplay mechanics are a blast.

For me it was the original Modern Warfare 3. I played that campaign a lot as a kid, but didn’t have internet back then so no multiplayer and no one to discuss the game with. The story is dumbed down compared to the first two games but it was pure fun and cinematic, every mission was memorable to me.

Like I didn’t even know what the stock exchange was back then, I just thought it was awesome traveling through city ruins fighting invaders.

Also the survival mode was super fun too.

Elevator7009, (edited ) do games w The magic of remembering—and talking about—video games

Online is a good place to share all the games you liked. It is where I talk about singleplayer experiences with others. In all honesty if they really are that niche you might not find people with similar experiences on Lemmy, just because we’re not a massive user base. Or you might!

You also might want to look into video game preservation.

You shouldn’t be allowed to patent game mechanics.

I mean could you imagine if movies worked like this? Imagine if Disney owned patents on exposition through song, talking animals, and twist villains.

De_Narm, do games w PC Gaming’s Mascot Squad—who makes the cut?

You’re missing many of the most iconic games on PC, namely stuff like League of Legends, DOTA, WoW, Overwatch, Runescape… Kerrigan is the only one you’ve included that kinda fits this group.

Now, to be honest, I haven’t touched most of these games myself, so I can’t tell you their mascots. But at least the MOBAs are bound to have one.

Holly shit a New Ayaneo Flip DS. :D I have the first one that released last year and I love it. If you love WiiU, 3DS and DS games. This is your device. It emulates them flawless. It also emulates Switch games. You can also use a USB-C laptop dock to use it as a Mini PC or play on your TV. On Vacation’s it’s my gaming and workstation at once. The only downside is the Price but besides that… Man I love that thing!

I’ll be honest, they fucked this game over hard in my opinion.

It really does feel like they separated everyone into teams, and none of the teams spoke to each other once. They all just delivered their chunk of the game without connecting pieces together.

Base building was a nightmare, and that’s the primary reason I downloaded it in the first place.

Then I finished the main quest and spoilers ahead for anyone who cares

spoilerThe concept of “well now you’re out of the universe so let’s go to a new one right at the start of the game again but this time a few things might be slightly different” was fun until all my hard work figuring things out with the bases got erased by “and by the way literally everything except your experience and abilities has been reset and you can either choose continuing the ability tree and maybe solve some mysteries of who built everything or you can care about the current universe but you can’t do both”

Kind of killed literally every desire I had to play the game. Especially when they patched the easily accessed chests that at least gave me a shortcut to some things.

Great mix of stuff in here! I was really excited about that rg slide! I watched some impressions and it’s just so chunky and apparently uncomfortable, but still so alluring.
