I like how the Yakuza/Like a Dragon is jam packed with mini-games. Sega even puts classic arcade games in it. But I feel like bang for your buck, you’re going to have the most mini games in the Yakuza game than you will in any other game.

ladytaters,

This, absolutely. The claw catcher is my jam.

I have a few.

PGR3, a Xbox360 racing game, contains Geometry Wars 1 and 2 as mini games. YT Link

Celeste contains the entirety of Celeste Classic (PICO-8) as an easter egg in one of its levels. YT Link

Xenogears, a PS1 JRPG game, contains a battle arena minigame, and I spent a few hours on that as a kid. YT Link

Machinarium’s Gomoku/5 in a row minigame is so much fun, I played it with my friends at school when we didn’t want to listen to our teacher :) By the way, I really recommend Machinarium to every fan of old school point-and-click games.

Thassodar,

Geometry Wars was the best! And in each Project Gotham the had a new version!

Animal Crossing on the GameCube straight up let you buy little NES consoles with a small variety of titles.

otp,

Does it actually let you buy them? I thought they were mostly locked away behind special event codes, or even dummied out.

Really basic ones can be dug up or purchased. You did have to get event codes for some cooler ones.

otp,

TIL, thanks!

TwilightVulpine,

I also loved that they added some minigames from Amiibo Festival into New Leaf on the 3DS: Puzzle League and Desert Island Escape

PS2 was good, PS3 was skippable. Xbox 360 was good, Xbox One was skippable. Can you guess when I got a PC? Lol. The Switch was the perfect console to pair with the PC in my opinion, but then I got a Deck… So, no, no reason to get any of the new consoles unless you just absolutely need to play the new Spider-Man game right now.

I got the PS4 Pro having not bothered upgrading from a PS3. At this point there was so many good games to play. I was so impressed I got the PS5 a year after launch. I’m really disappointed as the games have lackluster compared to my time on the PS4.

Honestly the only console that I see is worth having is the Switch. Other than that I play on the PC and now Steam Deck.

I gotta be honest I am waiting for the inevitable PS5 Pro because nothing is out this gen that interests me and the AAAs are mostly duds at this point, something we saw a lot of last gen. Industry is due a large adjustment.

FFX Blitzball is the mini-game that I sunk the most time into by far (100+ hours), and always had fun.

Gwent from Witcher 3 kind of goes without saying, the framework is so good it’s spawned 3 full games that I can think of.

Best Hacking mini-game goes to the newer Deux Ex games, quick, the right amount of challenge but if you didn’t like it you could basically never do it.

Best lockpicking I’m going to give to Starfield. Literally the only part of the game I actually enjoyed, each is a great little puzzle.

Anti_Iridium,

My roommate in college would play Qwent in Witcher 3 and I would find myself glued to the TV.

undeffeined,

OMG blitzball!! Initially thought it was stupid but once it clicked I was hooked !!!

As someone with a PS5 since launch… Not really.

I’ve owned every PlayStation generation since the original. I don’t consider myself a Sony stan, but with the exception of the Xbox 360, I’ve felt each generation of the various PSX’s have had a better lineup for my tastes. (Halo is great, though)

This time around, not so much. After three years, I have purchased five titles for my PS5. And, by FAR, the game that gets the most play is my PS4-version of Minecraft, so my kids can play multiplayer.

If you’ve got money to burn, I’d recommend a Steam Deck + Dock and a Bluetooth controller of your choice instead. Most of the same games will run on either platform, with the advantages of PC gaming - mods, forward compatibility, access to the MASSIVE Steam store and library…

Alternately the Switch has had a great lineup of first party titles - as usual. Just pickup a pro controller too, the “joycons” develop drift so fast it’s not even funny. Every single joycon I’ve purchased (six pairs over five years) has developed drift in under a year. I know I can get them repaired, but at this point, I’m over it. Just buy a pro controller and have done with it.

(If anybody is curious, my five PS5 titles are

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Sackboy’s Big Adventure
  • Jedi Survivor
  • Diablo IV

All but one are available on PC. I bought the Spiderman games before the PC ports arrived. Jedi survivor had a bad port at launch and I really wanted to play it. And Diablo IV I was able to pick up used for cheaper than the PC price. …let’s just say that after hundred plus hours in D3, I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for D4.

I do also pay for PlayStation Plus, where I’ve downloaded and played a few dozen indie titles, all of which are also on PC.)

delitomatoes,

Benefit is that Jedi actually runs on the console

Trying The Last of Us on PC. The TAA in this game is atrocious, everything is a smear fest

I've been grinding that Diablo 4 and enjoying it a lot.

After I finished the campaign, I made it to World Tier 4 (highest difficulty) pretty quickly, and I'm now level 97. I fulfilled my dream of becoming a bear that punches millions of demons, so that's pretty cool. Although I can't be a bear all the time though, which is pretty lame. In town, I'm forced to run around as a boring human.

The next season begins in 10 days, and I don't know if there's a short break in between. Level 100 should definitely be possible, and a few other "milestones," but I don't know if I manage to do everything I'd like to.

In Diablo 3, I'd usually play at the start of a season for a few weeks, and then take a break until the next one, so I never burned myself out on it. Since I started Diablo 4 at the tail end of the season, I'll probably end up playing a lot longer than I'd usually do, so burn out is definitely possible for me. A new character should hopefully freshen things up enough, and a friend might also play with me.

Network performance was much better this week, although there are still some hiccups here and there, mainly during the Legion events.

CharlesReed,

Unless they change it with the upcoming season, there's no downtime between seasons for Diablo 4 like there is with 3, but they do give you the whole season to sort through your inventory in the eternal realm instead of just 30 days.

Poopfeast420,
@Poopfeast420@kbin.social avatar

You mean when your seasonal characters become non-season and your items are mailed to you? In the beginning I was sorting through stuff, still keeping some items, but later I just destroyed almost everything, since I don't play non-season anyway, so I'll probably do the same here.

It sucks, that there's apparently no rebirth feature, like D3 had. I liked playing essentially the same characters over and over again from level 1, and not having to delete them and make a new one.

CharlesReed,

I miss the rebirth feature as well. I've heard whispers and rumors that the devs may add it in the future since it's requested so much, but that's just hearsay.
