Why is the cc-by-nc-sa license disappointing? Is your disappointment exclusive to version 4.0?

My only disappontment is with those humans (and humans who use ““humans””) who side with AI model using corporations that steal other people’s content to train said models for profit, over regular everyday people.

I would have liked to seen some Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle books listed there, but a good list overall, with a couple that I actually haven’t read, but look forward to doing so.

It was absolutely in there on purpose.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was actually a stealthy industry norm.

Fellow gamers, now is the time to push back on this crap. If you don’t do it now, you’ll live with this forever. They tried doing this in past generations as well, and failed.

Spread the word, tell others. Be vocal! Advocate for this not happening.

And if someone tells you that this isn’t preventable, tell them not to be cynical. Remind them of the other positive changes we were able to have happen recently in gaming, and that in the past when they tried this, the pushback was successful in keeping the gaming companies from doing so.

And remember, some of those you would try to convince are probably astroturfers/bots.

Without knowing why it asks this (or completely knowing why) means that an honest answer like “tits” can happen organically or specifically just for the chuckles.

Lol! Okay, thanks for the explanation on that. 😆

Edit: Just found it humorous guys. Wasn’t making fun of it.

Someone help me out here.

Why buy all these studios if you’re just going to lay off all the talent?

Doesn’t that kind of brain drain damage the studios that you purchased?

They’ll keep the talent they want, and fire everyone else. “Talent Acquisition”.

Would have been cheaper for them to just poach the few talented people, under your scenario.

(And yeah, but, they’d be able to work around the poaching contracting/legal issues. They always do.)

The last screenshot is the most important one to pay attention to.

(Apologizing in advance, a bit of a rant incoming…)

People can’t just bitch about it on an online forum and then do nothing after that, that doesn’t solve anything. You have to be proactive, you have to get off your ass, if you truly want change and to be treated respectfully as a customer. Otherwise, you get what you deserve.

They know the standard M.O. of a gamer, its to complain but then do nothing, and they take advantage of that.

Edit: And I’m talking especially to those who are downvoting my comment. Just bitching and downvoting does’t change/fix anything.

That sarcasm doesn’t help solve anything.

From Mbin, it looks struck through, lol

Its formatted properly, per Lemmy’s web page.

Its using subscript/superscript fonts, so you might want to double-check if your client is supporting those fonts properly or not.

Subscript: subscript ~subscript~
Superscript: ^superscript^ ^superscript^

If the above does not display correctly, you need to talk to the devs of the client that you are using. I’m using the Lemmy web client.

CosmicCleric, (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

Looks like Lemmy has decided to use a flavor of Markdown which is inconsistent from Mbin’s. That’s a shame.

Weirdly enough, different Lemmy Android clients for Lemmy also work differently with the scripts formatting, each having their own quirks. One person though did fix their problem by upgrading their client app to the latest version.

I had thought it was all one single standard, when first started using the formatting. My original intent was just to have a smaller font, as I was at first just using the link format without any subscripting, but people were complaining about that, so I was trying to compromise and make it smaller.

You don’t own your comments to transfer a license in the first place.

Are you a lawyer? You have some citation to back that up?

CosmicCleric, (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

Like I told you before. That’s not a link to the license, the page itself says so!

Thats the canonical version of the license.

The legal version is linked directly from there, as well as here.

My declaring my comments as licensed by CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 means its licensed. Its your responsibility to read the full license to comply, not mine.

CosmicCleric, (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

Aha, so you actually read it? Thanks for clarifying.

I have. Both versions. I was just linking to the easy to read version (canonical), but by declaring my comment as licensed means it is covered by CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, and you can get to the legal version from the canonical version.

So you didn’t reach the conclusion that this license is incompatible with posting on Lemmy?

Are you a lawyer? No? Well then be sure to come back here once you get your degree and let us know the final word on this.

Juno: New Origins. It is currently on sale on Steam. It’s also developed by like, 8 people or something like that. It’s a ridiculously small team.

Thank you! I’ll be sure to check it out.

From the article…

This is the result of a change in approach to Square Enix’s development of what it calls HD video games (PC and console, as opposed to mobile and MMO). In its note, the company said it wants to be “more selective and focused in the allocation of development resources”, and as a result of the “close examination” of its development pipeline with this in mind, is taking the multi-million dollar loss.

From the article…

The easiest fix is to own the game on GOG, which allows players to roll-back patches, but for Steam owners the process is a whole lot more convoluted.

… and …

A more straightforward perspective came from the team working on the enormous Fallout: London project, which was due to launch around now but has been delayed while the team works around Bethesda’s update. As the project lead says, “[the patch] has, for a lack of a better term, screwed us over.”

FYI, multiple spoilers, of both the second movie, as well as the overall story, in the article for those who have not read the books, but have seen the first movie.

(Yeah, I know, but still, I’m sure there are some people out there who fit the description I stated above.)

Good article, worth the read.

From the article…

We’re also reminded of another thing Villeneuve told us this year: “I always have been, since I was born as a filmmaker, concerned, inspired, and sensitive about the female condition and women’s relationship with power.” He even went on to say he wanted his movie “to be an adaptation about the Bene Gesserit. I want the Bene Gesserit to be at the center of the epicenter of this adaptation.”

Fedora/KDE (on all AMD hardware).

No brainer, everything just works.

And for those games that aren’t Steam based, I use Bottles, and then use the feature inside a Bottles that adds the game to my Steam library, so they can be launched directly from Steam.

Fedora seems to have the best support for hardware, of all the distros that I’ve tried.

Hello Games.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

I feel really bad for the developers and their frustration with their publisher/management they must have to have dealt with, and the long haul in front of them that still exists.

If I was working there I would have quit and try to find work somewhere else. That crap they must have gone through and still have to deal with is just too much.

I don’t see healthy companies sacrifice their long term fan base and development throughput for short term gains.

New to Capitalism?

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

The new generation?

In relation to who you were replying to, I think ‘new’ is in the eye of the beholder. Time is relative.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

Instead of getting hung up on an actual age number, consider it as older society versus the current newer society.

We can all argue the details, but today’s consumer who purchase games seem to be a lot more willing to accept an inferior product, than those of the past.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t see healthy companies sacrifice their long term fan base and development throughput for short term gains.

New to Capitalism?

No, hence my conclusions.

You’ve never seen a corporation sacrifice its long-term health to report short-term profits, to meet an upcoming quarterly report?

Ever?

I’ve never seen one I would call healthy.

Well, most people believe that all publicly traded corporations, healthy or otherwise, only focus on their next quarterly report profits, and that long-term strategy and growth goals are rarely if ever considered.

Granted, I’d much rather live in your world than mine, but I don’t think you’re correct on this one.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

But you should read some of this guy— he’s the most legit… except for this delay.

I know, I was just going for the comedic route (er, I think :p ). I’ve read his books.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

You don’t see Take Two shoving GTA6 and Judas out the door for profits now, for instance.

And all the other corporations out there?

Remember your stance was that all healthy corporations would never sacrifice long-term health for short-term profits.

Paradox abiding by the same MO to burn good will for multiple games and then getting developers off their books is a move you make when you’re out of better options.

You’re not really addressing my point, but instead skirting around it…

Well, most people believe that all publicly traded corporations, healthy or otherwise, only focus on their next quarterly report profits, and that long-term strategy and growth goals are rarely if ever considered.

Our original disagreement was on if a healthy corporation would focus on the quarterly profits over long-term goals in the same way that an unhealthy corporation would. Your stance was that any healthy corporation would not.

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

So, just to confirm, your opinion is that no healthy corporation in any industry on this planet would ever focus on short-term quarterly reports and financial gain to satisfy their shareholders, over long-term goals and stability, yes? That only unhealthy corporations would do so?

CosmicCleric,
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

I’d say it’s a sign of an unhealthy company

Not all corporations on the planet are unhealthy, but all focus on the quarterly report more so than long-term, if they’re publicly traded.

You keep focusing on a few game companies, where my original comment, and my recurring comments, are about corporations in general, as a discussion on Capitalism as a whole.

It’s well known and believed that all corporations that are public and that have shareholders focused primarily on the next quarterly earnings report and returns, and not long term results, regardless of their health.

I don’t think my conclusion is farfetched.

Your conclusion is purposely not answering the point I’m asking you, which is what this conversation is about.

It blows my mind you’re not willing to acknowledge that, which is why I keep interacting with you, trying to get you to speak specifically to that point, but you keep referring to just two game companies over and over again only.

CosmicCleric, (edited )
@CosmicCleric@lemmy.world avatar

Going to leave it with this…

You’re looking for an argument that I’m not interested in, and it’s not what this conversation was about.

You’re purposely not answering the point of the conversation, and trying to label it otherwise is not an answer in and of itself.

The conversation was about healthy corporations focusing on short-term profits or not. Not one game company who’s unhealthy focusing on short-term profits.

I don’t see healthy companies sacrifice their long term fan base and development throughput for short term gains.

New to Capitalism?

No, hence my conclusions.

GUI > CL. 😇

I get the testicular fortitude that someone has to have to make that kind of comment here on Lemmy, that has very hardcore Linux tech-based audience, but still, the general electronics using public would agree with what I’m saying.

TIL that typing in a username, server address and hitting ‘Connect’ is a bad UX.

UX is more than just a single login.
