Dark Souls 1. Especially on PC it’s almost unplayable due to bad porting and DS3 and Elden Ring have refined the formula so much, it’s insane. The remaster is ok though, so I don’t know if that counts.
The original is rough yes, but I don’t know anyone that would play it over the Remaster these days. And the remaster is fine as far as playability goes. However, it’s still a candidate for this thread simply because the DS1 bosses will feel very anticlimactic for anyone who has played DS3/ER/Bloodborne/Sekiro.
I was going to comment harvest moon after reading the title!
A lot of the older games for me. They’re just a lot harder. Like maybe they expect you to be willing to replay an area or a level over and over, getting a little farther each time until you beat it and I just don’t have the stamina for that anymore, or the time.
Newer games baby you, they increase the difficultly perfectly along side your ability growth. They might even make a level easier if you’ve failed twice. Older games don’t care if you’re having fun as much. There was less competition (fewer game choices) and more of a “gamers like this. If you don’t like it, you’re not a gamer” attitude, and now games want to attract everyone.
I have become such a baby about games. I want to have fun the whole time! I can’t handle failing over and over. I’d rather just read a book.
I don’t think anyone is saying that the story of Hades isn’t portrayed well with the rougelike style, but it’s totally ok to say “I don’t have time to play a game that’s designed such that you fail dozens of times before you win”
It’s definitely really pretty and runs pretty well too. I have it set to the base High Option and it runs at around 60 FPS for me with my specs (which is the max my monitor goes)
It’d be kind of like if Assassin’s Creed Unity played the same song that was in that famous reveal trailer (…)
God, that AC Unity trailer with “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” might still be my all time favourite trailer. It’s so good.
I’m glad AC Shadows is going in a good direction though. I thought the series was completely lost after the shift to RPGs. Still not sure I’ll play it but I might consider it now on sale. Yours is not the first surprisingly positive review I’ve seen.
I agree. It still has a bit of a way to improve, but I’d say that if you were to pick it up though, the sale would be the safest bet, especially with the freakishly large base price tag
I have set up the original Fallout (fully modded and running through Fallout 1n2), but it’s pretty hard to get into. Not because of the graphics, which are actually fine, but just because the mechanics are quite intricate and I think my ability to learn new gameplay mechanics is declining as I enter my mid-30s (I’ve only played Fallout starting with Fallout 3). I’m going to keep trying to get into it!
The classic Fallouts do have some quirks, but I hope you get through them and can get into it. They are absolutely amazing games, well worth your time.
As someone who played Fallout 2 as a teen it’s not your age, the first 2 have a lot of little things that end up having a big effect, and they are difficult. They do not pull their punches and will happily smack you around.
I restarted Fallout 2 many times when I was first playing it trying to figure out a build I liked.
No worries bud, the mechanics for 1 and 2 has always been shit. People sucked it up and played anyway because the writing was so damn good. If you can’t get into the game because the mechanics or controls are bad thats the games fault not yours.
I have been trying to replay both for years and everytime I give up after a few hours because the experience is just painful.
From GTA to GTA san andreas are all a pain now because the control scheme is so outdated, The pcs ports are even worse because they have the shittiest jankiest controls imaginable but they had that from the start. GTA 4 is borderline unplayable because of the trash camera controls but that was true when it came out as well.
The original Metro 2033 is a bit of a slog to get through as well if you can even get it to run.
Hardly ruin, you have to purposefully go find them gloating over Steam charts. But it’s too funny that people really have choice enough now in the good graphics segment that Ubisoft is sinking. It’s my fault, I cursed them when they left Steam for their 4-UAC-prompts-whenever-you-start PoS. They showed total contempt for their users with Breakpoint, tried an nft grift on the side, evolved all cosmetics to clown shoes level and totally failed to offer anything new. Where’s Reflextions? Stuff like Grow Up / Home, metroidvanias on UbiArt Framework? They have great 3D engines and can’t keep a team happy or unfired enough to have people that know how to use it and optimize a game and are able to take some risks with game design. It’s all either heavily monetized multiplayer dreck or incremental QoL features in ever larger and shallower sandboxes in one of few large franchise flavors. There’s not that much to discuss, woo bamboo cutting tech, a new coat of paint and some gimmicks. People claiming it’s failing because it’s either woke or culture appropriating are ascribing cultural import to a happy meal.

Oh, wow! Amazing post, great job here! Loved to read through it, follow links and read more stuff! That Nintendo PlayStation was a rabbit hole!
I’m currently bashing my head with Elden Ring, dying all the time, figuring maybe I’m to old for videogames. I played DS2, DS3 and Bloodborne before, so I’m not new, but other things like online gaming and mount-fighting are too complicated for me. Items are just too many, difficulting me to actually use them. Never played online, ever, do not like the whole idea. Also had a run for Dying light but didn’t finish it. IDK, I’ve died a lot in videogames lately. Kind of tired of dying.
My daughter wanted to wear my headset when I was playing battlefield once. It was so funny listening to those losers rage because they Were getting stomped by a 5 yr old girl. Now days she still puts it on from time to time and it’s still hilarious.
lol incel club has been infested with other creepy stuff waaaay beyond just that somewhile ago. today’s incels are low level IQ insults to the people who were the true incels of before, like those intelligent people who came up with 15 feb and so on.
I tend to think the average person is extremely judgmental and desperate for status hierarchy. In part that’s the conclusion of the study. As you can see in the other IQ-obsessed reply, it’s not exactly uncommon.
I don’t think that’s right, I’m terrible at games but I still respect women (enough to spare them from interacting with me whenever possible. Same goes for all people really)
More likely higher ranked players finally figured out that keeping harmony within your team does wonders for your chance at winning. The amount of infighting I’ve had to stop just to save my elo is insane, why would i start something just because of someone’s gender.
