ffmpeg, if you need a gui use handbreak

Sourmilk,

I currently use Handbrake (I’m not much without a GUI aha) but it doesn’t seem to have any options for merging / combining video files. I’m hoping to encode here, but the bluray source splits the movie into a couple of video files, and I’d like to combine them first before encoding

TheFool,
@TheFool@infosec.pub avatar

Are you trying to concat streams or just to remux? For remuxing as roawre said there’s also MkvToolNix, which works great (and it has a gui don’t worry)

Sourmilk,

Mkvtoolnix

I’m sorry, I’ve done a poor job explaining. The source has split the movie, intro, and credits into 3 video files, and i’d like to make them one file, before or during the re-encoding process, so that the final movie includes the intro and credits. I’m currently grabbing MKVtoolnix, to see if it can do it, but I completely missed @roawre comment, so thank you for re-iterating, thanks to roawre for the original comment, and thanks to everyone for their responses, getting into this seems overwhelming and i’m so grateful to have your assistance!

Also, the files I have are “.m2ts”, will mkvtoolnix support this, or will I need to encode first? MKVtoolnixs website seems to imply it only really likes .MKV files

TheFool,
@TheFool@infosec.pub avatar

Okay MkvToolnix isn’t the right tool for that afaik, but ffmpeg is and it sucks there isn’t a GUI for it that’s as powerful as the cli which is what I use, luckily you can find a lot of help online,

Apart from that I’m afraid i can’t help much, but good luck with your search!

I’m currently away from home and I’ve downloaded Resident Evil 2 (remake) onto my Steam Deck. I’m an hour or so in loving it so far! I’ve only ever played RE4 (the original version) before and it feels quite different - less incentive to shoot enemies.

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

I have played most of the originals, but haven’t played any of the remake yet. I have heard great things about the remakes though, so may go through all of them sometime.

Do share you opinions once you have finished the game.

So I finished Leon’s ‘half’ of the story yesterday. It was great! Loved all the puzzles (which had a classic videogame feel to them) as well as the various settings. It’s a beautiful looking game and the gunplay is very satisfying.

I was a bit disappointed to learn that playing as Claire is just the same thing again, although it does have a few different story beats. I don’t mind too much though as it seems like a fun game to play through multiple times.

This seems like a great way to remake an old game. Reminds me of FF7 remake in some respects.

This weekend I’ll focus on splatoon as there is a splatfest going on. And that was most of my week as well, as I always boot splatoon a few days ago to derust myself. Also been playing vampire survivors and I have to say that it’s an awesome game and very fun. Might do that in between splatoon

Oooh, Team Shiver won! Better luck next time!

BTW how is your Fire Emblem going?

Dougas,

Thanks. I did finish the main story in Fire Emblem Engage. I still have the DLC but that’s on hold for now

Ah, cool.

espiritu_p, do gaming w What are some games that "spin" failure states?

I made some heavy mistakes in Act 1 of Baldurs Gate 3 and the game is still continuing, now with fewer options for characters that I can include in my party, because one died permanently, one left and one even refused to join.

If that's want you meant?

Pfnic,

Did you raid the grove?

Also I think what they meant is, that on a total-party-kill instead of having to reload a save, the game continues with a path to resurrection sub-plot or something like that.

HarkMahlberg,
@HarkMahlberg@kbin.social avatar

Odd, I got TPK'd in a regular combat encounter and it just prompted me to reload a save.

Pfnic,

Sorry, I might have confused you there. I was giving an example for a sub-plot that, afaik doesn’t exist in BG3. Having to reload is probably not what OP was looking for

espiritu_p,

No. Just killed too many Tiefling.
First they held my friend Laezael hostage.
Then they got aggro when I tried to read their mind. Then they wanted to imprison me for looting the corses - as if the corpses had any use for their possessions any longer. And in the end they interfered when I wanted to bring Zazza home through the remains of the Tiefling camp. As if they had not learned to that point...
But even though i helped defend the grove (and the few surviving Tieflings) and they showed great gratitude to me for helping them, Karlach was no longer willing to join my team.

Schaedelbach, do gaming w What are some games that "spin" failure states?

Hades! Whenever you die, you get reborn in the “house” of your father Hades. Dying and being reborn is an integral part of this game and is what keeps the story going. You also get to upgrade and unlock weapons that way. Highly recommend this game if you like fastpaced and smartly designed action games!

Instigate,

That’s basically true of all roguelites, right? The whole genre is built around the idea of playing through, dying, and coming back stronger so you can go farther. I’m thinking Rogue Legacy, Dead Cells, Slay the Spire, The Binding of Isaac etc. etc.

Schaedelbach,

I played Rogue Legacy and Dead Cells combined at least 150h and only a bit of BOI. I know that in RL the shtick is that with every new run another one of your family is the character. And in Dead Cells you just use a new body every run. The stories in those games aren’t very elaborate and the games would just be as good as they are without story.

Hades is different in that the story parts of the game are an important part of the experience (you go around and get to know a lot of different characters and find different ways to upgrade stuff) and that the main character Zagreus doesn’t really die - he is also a god. When you lose all hp you just get transported back to Hades and almost everyone there has new tings to say and the relationships develop over time.

I don’t know how to explain it better but the main idea of a roguelite is clearly there the execution is way more elaborate and story heavy than RL, DC or BOI. Slay the Spire is on my imaginary backlog of games in need to play before I die.

mkvtoolnix to create a remux then encode that remux

Same with Futurama… but seems to import well when a proper release is out. Production seasons vs Aired seasons is a pain

recursive_recursion, (edited ) do pcgaming w Is there a mouse that vibrates?
@recursive_recursion@programming.dev avatar

Theoretically you could create it with KDEConnect on a phone and use it as a mouse

  • this might be easiest to implement as you’d need a smartphone, a pc, then install KDEConnect on both
  • the con being the mouse part becomes more of a haptic trackpad as the phone itself doesn’t relay back global positioning changes(although it could with GPS but might not be cost/time-effective)

In Chernobylite, when you die (either by getting killed in specific circumstances or by committing suicide in a special device), you get a chance to alter the past by changing decisions you made in the game, which will end up in changing the story and a whole lot of things like companions’ attitudes, weapons at your disposal etc.

Same thing happened with this show called Top Boy. I ended up just getting it from a DDL website.
