I could never get into the way it controls and looks. And I’m sure my feelings on warm climates & seasons like summer doesn’t help. I really want to like it though so I want to give it another try
Yeah man, treat it like it’s its own game, not a Mario game. It’s super frustrating at times but it’s very satisfying to complete. 😊 Just like the games of old! (And when I say old, I’m talking about 30–40 years old, not 15–25… 💀)
I never played Galaxy 2. I liked the first, but I actually preferred Sunshine. Galaxy just seemed smaller to me. I liked that it was different, and maybe part 2 would’ve improved on the engine, but I just thought the first was almost like a gimmick.
Sunshine was gimmicky too, but it felt more complete overall. But yeah, not sure 1+2 is worth $70. I get that Microsoft and Sony have other things to fall back on, but Nintendo is asking too much this time for 15-18 year old games. $50 is more like it.
Personally I didn't like Galaxy 1 very much, but loved 2 as much as using a Wiimote allows. Came down to more level variety with better design and being more challenging I guess. Hard to remember, never replayed either game.
I can't stand Sunshine however. Multiple revisits trying to get into it, but it's just with how Mario controls. Very SSB Melee twitchy which I don't like.
I played 2 with a friend a few years ago. 2 literally felt like more Galaxy. Which is great if you want more Galaxy, not so much if you want to try something a bit new

GTA (as in, the first one) was a wonderful gaming experience. GTA 2 changed the game in some interesting ways, yet it remains the black sheep of the series for some reason. 3, 4, and 5 were iconic. Then 4 came out again (oops, the OG 4 is actually just Vice City, it’s not the fourth game but it’s also not DLC, not sure how that works. Interestingly while GTA 4/VC and GTA 4 were in different cities, GTA 5/SA and GTA 5 both took place in San Andreas (and surrounding areas). Anyway, I couldn’t get into the new GTA 4. GTA 5 was better, but I never finished it. Then they paused GTA to do a sequel to their Red Dead games, neither of which really went anywhere (popularity wise) but whatever, RDR2 (sequel to Red Dead Redemption, itself a sequel to Red Dead Revolver) ended up being a massive hit. Wasn’t for me, but I enjoyed what I played (the intro and maybe a couple hours after).
I don’t think GTA VI will be worth $100. I’m not interested in paying more than like $40 for it, tops. But, that’s just me. I know even at $100 it will break records and then everyone will think they can sell their games for $100 each. I don’t like it, but it’s going to happen.
It hurts, but you may be right. I hate trendsetters for price hikes. Hopefully releases like Peak for $20 can help remind folk that AAAs aren’t always worth the base cost. I just really dislike how capitalism ruins everything, in this case the obsession over currency has led to the games development industry being corporatized; for all but indies it’s largely about how to appease the consumer and maximize profit, instead of how to make something people will love and get enough sales to make another game.
I came in to the franchise at Vice City Stories and San Andreas, loved them! I do know a little about the chronological releases and that there were spinoffs that for some reason weren’t numbered aha. So:
Vice City (Miami 1980s) GTA III -
Liberty City (sort of NYC) San Andreas -
Los Santos (Los Angeles)
San Fierro (San Francisco?)
Las Venturas (Las Vegas) GTA IV -
Liberty City (New York City) GTA V ( -
Los Santos again
North Yankton (North Dakota)
Surroundings are a mashup of several real-life counterparts GTA VI -
Vice City again
I preferred San Andreas, and liked it mainly for the size and beauty of the map (post storyline appeal) and radio stations, Vice City for the collectibles, GTA IV for the brilliant and crazy storyline characters, and GTA V for the same reason as San Andreas.
A couple of my all-time favourite games were Rockstar (Need for Speed Most Wanted and Midnight Club 3, underground street racing).
It makes me wish i had explored them when i was younger. I got like halfway through and had to return my copy to the library and never got to check it out again because one of the other Library Borrowers left it out and it got ruined
Playing the FF7 remake felt really dated in terms of a lot of things. After playing God of War and others, the cinematics felt cheesy and less cohesive now in FF … I didn’t care for much of any of the voice acting. A lot of the side quests didn’t fit “in world” to me. The heck do I care about some lost kittens? Why am I figuring out this time-wasting crane control? … Also, not sure what’s going on with the “ghosts”. I didn’t like the combat and found it annoying. Which is strange because I enjoyed FF15: The backstreet boys edition and even Guardians.
On the positives, I felt if I could take a screenshot of any part of the game and sent it back to the younger version of me … My mind would be blown. I’d just stop the game several times to just admire the scenery and the look.
spoilers!Fighting Sephiroth so many times felt odd. I felt it feel off story-wise.
Everyone loves FF 7 remake and all that and I know I’m in minority but it put me off Rebirth. I’m happy other people enjoy it now though. I just wish I was one of them.
I haven’t played the OG (outside of a little bit on Xbox through the re-release) but i can definitely understand why the differences might not be for everyone, especially with all the added stuff
I absolutely love the FF7R series and love what they've done with it.
I have played other remakes that are basically exact carbon copies and eventually I get bored of them or can recognize that there are some gaming mechanics from 20 years ago that aren't really great in today's era.
So I enjoy how FF7R tried a more daring approach and... at least for me it worked well. From combat to story telling, I give it full marks. I know it's not for everyone, but they're some of my favorite games ever.
I like these more experimental remakes. Silent Hill 2’s Remake was the same way and it offered something new yet different which i really like. I really hope we get more of these experimental remakes
For curious reasons, they didn’t keep this loco in the main large museum in New Delhi; probably because it is not connected to active rail tracks. I took a couple of hours local train ride to see this in the small museum tucked there.
Looks like I’ll be the negative one. I gave it a solid try dual booting for about 6 months before I went back to Windows.
I think I took for granted how much is abstracted away in Windows when it came to being my daily driver for my computer. Wrapping my head around things that “just worked” in Windows proved to be more difficult than I anticipated and I dealt with more friction. Trying to learn new concepts stood in my way of fully embracing it as well as not understanding what the “Windows equivalent” was for a given feature/function/action so I could wrap my head around it better. I also had a couple of workflows that I never got working in Linux despite all my attempts at searching for answers.
And I know people will come out of the woodwork with all sorts of questions or input on how if I just tried it again I’ll get it. For the record, I tried out Pop OS since it bills itself as a dead simple. I know the problems for me were more around my knowledge, years of built up muscle memory with Windows, and limited time to game so messing with whatever my current problem was made it more frustrating and soured me on the experience.
Both were on my radar as well. I want to say I tried Bazzite before Pop but one of those workflows I could not solve was a problem on Bazzite (some virtual kvm switch software I’ve used forever). Nobara was almost where I went after Pop before retreating back to Windows :)
Hey, just a super random follow up but this thread sparked me messing around with Bazzite again and I got some things figured out that originally did trip me up. Just set it up on a separate hard drive for dual booting to give it another chance.
Whenever I find a few minutes to sit down with the time to make the switch official, I’m probably going to install Bazzite properly over my Windows install!
Could you give some examples of things that worked for you on Windows but couldn’t port over to Linux? I’m interested if they’re related more to games or just using Linux in general.
Without context this is pretty useless for OP. It sounds like you have some exotic non-gaming-related workflows and without knowing what those are it’s impossible to say if they’re anything OP would ever need to deal with.
For gaming the only non-starter at this point is games that the devs have chosen to make not work on Linux, i.e. ring 0 anti-cheats and a few other games made by assholes like Fortnite. VR is also hit and miss, for some people/systems it works nearly out of the box, for others it might be a big pain.
Honestly, it’s my assessment of turning my only PC, which is primarily gaming, into a Linux machine and the struggles there with day-to-day usage. I have no idea what OP’s comfort level with Linux or tech is in general but my assumption is it’s enough to think “Yeah, I could install Linux and do this.” which was where I was at too. Nothing I’m doing was exotic but the investment required in finding suitable alternatives that worked nearly out of the box was too high at the time.
Gaming was decent by all accounts. I think I had a few compatibility items that will iron out as developers support Linux more and the technology that enables gaming on Linux just gets better and better. I have an AMD card and from what I gather that’s better for switching to Linux. A lot of my frustrations were not related to gaming and I recognize the issue is time and knowledge on my part. If those are in short supply when something breaks, you could have a bad time is all I’m saying. Everyone’s got to start out somewhere and if you’ve had Windows forever, it can be a mental shift.
I use CachyOS (Arch) and NixOS and haven't had any problems. Modding on NixOS is a bit more of a headache but it's not a deal breaker. Everything just works. Sure I can't play League or Valorant or EA multiplayer games but not like I was playing those anyways. IF you do enjoy those games then your linux gaming experience isn't going to be great.
As far as distros go? hell you can play on whatever one you want. Like I said I sometimes game on NixOS. I know a guy that even play games on Kali when he's not doing his pen testing stuff.
Even for older games with Emulation it's great. NixOS is my defacto remote emulation machine because it's so painfully easy to set up retroarch on it. Otherwise I have Ubuntu on my private server and I run RomM on it and it has all my roms on there.
Did I end up starting a new save in Stardew Valley for the umpteenth time? Yep.
I wrapped up Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown maybe a week ago and really enjoyed it, ending somewhere around 85% of completion and calling that good enough. Not sure why Stardew looked appealing but it did, I’m over the usual hurdle of Spring/early Summer Year One and just enjoying my time with it. I’ve already played for well over 500h across multiple saves and if hard pressed to pick one game as my favorite, it’s probably Stardew. This time around is a modded playthrough primarily on the Steam Deck/with a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, so some mods are a bit clunkier than I’d like (renaming chests and chest groups is a real pain) and settling into the end of my first year now.
