The investors are betting that AI-based cost cuts will significantly boost EA’s profits in the coming years, people involved in the transition told the Financial Times

As an engineer who uses AI regularly, have built models, and knows the subject deeply - LOL. This is huge Bro energy with little understanding of AI and they are fully on the hype train.

I did a long comment on my experience working for private equity, and just love how it’s going to destroy EA: poptalk.scrubbles.tech/comment/5086464

mnemonicmonkeys,

This is huge Bro energy with little understanding of AI and they are fully on the hype train.

Aparently one of the companies that made the purchase is owned by Jared Kushner. You’re probably spot on with that assessment

Katana314,

I wish it was easier to predict when the AI bubble is going to pop. There’s likely lots of money to be made shorting them, but it’s not something small investors can do easily - and there’s a real possibility some thousands of investors instead pull harder on the copiumand just lie to themselves for the next decade that “it’s almost there bro, we just need another lake for cooling our doubled power output”

I like GN and Steve a lot and think they are ridiculously good at tech/data-based as well as consumer rights activism.

This… it is a fun video (if you like Steve) but he and his team are not qualified to talk about this topic. It is the same obnoxious youtuber “I am going to make forty jokes per minute and say every single quote in a nasty voice to show how bad they are”. Which, again, is fun but doesn’t convey much useful information and mostly just serves to spread “vibes based” news and borderline misinformation.

Most of the stuff on GNCA is pretty good and this kind of coverage is great for a quick blurb during the news show. But 27 minutes that doesn’t convey much (meaningful) information beyond a tweet… yeah.

beetus,

Steve is a master at writing a script with so many words that says very little. I like a lot of the content but I gotta take it in small bursts.

I gotta stop posting videos. Lemmy really hates to watch a video.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

Given the nature of how the site generally works and how most peolle appear to use it, shorts would be watched more often than a 20+ minute video. Most people just mindlessly scroll for a minute or two while waiting on something else. Only the losers like me have the time to watch a long video.

DoucheBagMcSwag,

Not only that but they hate YouTube. You’ll see videos from other “tube” sites that aren’t YouTube here

The only destruction I remember in FC2 was the fire spreading system. 🤔

I also can’t believe Rust didn’t make the cut, considering how popular it still is and it having a destruction system similar to Teardown and Red Faction.

GammaGames,

When did Rust add that? Back when I played it was essentially Ark/Fortnite building

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

It’s been there as long as I can remember. Make a big tower and take out the bottom. The whole thing collapses.

GammaGames,

Oooh, Teardown and Red Faction have a bit more physics involved but I see the comparison

I feel like the designer responsible smuggled this video topic to him somehow, after not hearing from anyone who had noticed their exhaustive attention to detail

There is 0% chance that this didn’t take a shitload of “unnecessary” effort, including updating the power lines every time something in the level got modified or rearranged

Arcane2077,

They even kept separate layouts for the online mode, which takes place a year(?) or more before the campaign. Genuinely astounding amount of effort the 99.999% won’t notice

So? What’s the answer?

LastYearsIrritant,

With the AnyAustin videos, it’s the journey, not the answer.

If you just want a yes/no, this isn’t the video for you.

Lembot_0004,

All videos are not for me. I can read.

Starski,

This is like saying I refuse to go outside because this book on nature I have is good enough, the context you get by being in the actual world helps whatever you read have more context. I’m assuming your comment was in jest, but it gave me such a gutteral reaction that I had to say something.

Zorque,

But… a video isnt real life. It’d be more like “I dont need a nature documentary because I have a book on nature”.

Nima,
@Nima@leminal.space avatar

your eyes can’t see video? did you miss a driver update or something?

LastYearsIrritant,

Ok. The answer is yes.

But the context is what makes it interesting.

Imagine never experiencing something like The Godfather because you can read.

Lembot_0004,

I neither read that book nor watched the movie.

TL;DW is they connect to a power plant and they have a map-wide grid, but then it turns out that it doesn’t make sense, given the historical setting

Right? And not only that, how many down vote without participating in the discussion or even watching the video.

I understand holding a person to standard. But to say ‘I didn’t watch, I didn’t read but I don’t like the guy.’ that’s not what online community or discussion are about.

I think you miss the point also that it's been years that people have probably known the guy and his antics, so it's easy for them to write him off. I think it is ignorant of you to pretend that kind of plausibility doesn't exist.

Mind as well say "gee, why don't everybody sit and listen and watch everything Donald Trump does? I don't get it!"

Why the hell would people want to waste the time?

007ace,
@007ace@lemmy.ca avatar

This sounds like a troll comment, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. People should and do listen to everything trump says. Because it is important to know what is being imposed or done in the world. Just like this topic, if you don’t want to participate in discussion that is fine, but you should not be saying ‘I am willingly ignorant and everyone else is the problem’

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Completionist gives answers

I don’t really believe this. This just seems like someone lying about the situation after they were caught. He’s still making himself into a victim, rather than just showing the money was donated and moving on, leaving himself out of it.

My biggest issue is that he spends a long time explaining what was going on, but at the time when it was happening, he didn’t mention any of the stuff he brings up now. Its like he is updating the autopsy report after the fact. If he was contacting these charity groups like he says he was, why did he not provide at least his initial contact emails? When it comes to charity, I don’t see why anything would need to be proprietary or secretive, so their response could be included as well. Even including messages about the alleged infighting about who and where to donate to. That would have cleared everything up instantly. But that’s not what happened. He also doesn’t include any proof of this new explanation backstory.

To me, this just sounds like “Sorry I got caught, here is an explanation I came up with later that includes zero proof of any of it happenening so you’ll just have to trust me bro. And I finally donated the money like you all wanted, see? I was actually the Good Guy and Victim all along!”

Maybe I got it all wrong. But this does not seem genuine to me.

I watched a video last night that concluded that the story of GTA San Andreas begins on January 1st 1992 and ends roughly around late April-early May 1992. That was a banger.

I know this guy's track record and he needs to show a ton of receipts than just words. He needs to make some big steps in owing up to his mistakes. He's shown time and time again that he'll speak words and never do the thing that's infront of his face that he needs to do. Not gonna sit and listen for 45 minutes of it. Actions speak louder.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

The money has been donated, and he linked receipts to where it’s gone.

007ace,
@007ace@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve been following him for years and I was very surprised when the news broke. He admits to fault in that he didn’t announce the struggles finding a group to donate to. I’m in Canada and we have some crazy rules to do a big donation too.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

“News”. The first video from each of those guys was news. Their follow-up videos show why actual journalism is so important and convinced me to never watch their videos again, not Jirard’s, funny enough. As a non-expert, it seems like the only reason donating this much money is complicated is because they wanted eyes on exactly where it was being used.

007ace,
@007ace@lemmy.ca avatar

Absolutely 100% Once they had gotten the announcement out, and the public could see that there had been no donations, it should have been handled by professionals. Jirard wanting to know where the money went was important to him and was something that he had committed to right from the start. From his video it sounded like it came down to his morals on the donation or his commitment to donate right after the annual events. It’s a no win situation once he was aware in 2023.
