UndercoverUlrikHD, do games w Rocksteady pulls Suicide Squad an hour into early access after players’ games ‘auto completed’
@UndercoverUlrikHD@programming.dev avatar

I can imagine Rocksteady could have made a solid game in the vein of the Arkham series if WB execs with zero competence didn’t interfere. A real waste of talent.

Rayspekt, do games w Sega wants classic franchise reboots to show ‘edginess and a rebellious mind-set’

I hope the Crazy Taxi reboot will be good, the original game is such a trip.

Edgarallenpwn,
@Edgarallenpwn@midwest.social avatar

I feel like it is hard to mess up the formula as long as it doesn’t get too “modern gaming”. I was playing my Dreamcast over Thanksgiving and really wanting a new Crazy Taxi and JSR so I was pumped at first when I saw this, but I’ve stopped believing in the hype for games a decade ago.

kadu, do games w Super Mario Bros. Wonder feels like a modern Mario World
@kadu@lemmy.world avatar

I’m so happy they’re moving away from the “New Super Mario” formula.

Too bad they’re still going nuts on “everything is made out of plastic” look for the 2D games, but everything else is looking to be a major return to the World formula and that’s great

Minnels,

I like mario games but the “new super mario” games are just boring for me so I have high hopes of Wonder.

TwilightVulpine, do gaming w Cancelled Hyenas was ‘Sega’s biggest budget game ever’, it’s claimed | VGC

Sega really doesn't pick the right games to invest big on.

iHUNTcriminals, do games w Remedy says its Max Payne remakes are ‘a big, big project’

They better keep the exact original head shape and face. Or else I’m boycotting.

toxicbubble, do games w Red Dead Redemption 2 listed for Nintendo Switch on ratings board’s website | VGC

why does the switch have better specs than ps3 but most games look like ps2

manapropos, do games w EA Sports has delisted its FIFA back catalogue from digital storefronts

What’s a good game for soccer (football for non Americans don’t jump down my throat please) these days? I mostly play the PS2 madden games when I need my sports game fix, and there are plenty of mods to bring those up to date

Zeth0s,

None as far as I know. If someone knows the answer I’d be interested as well.

Fifa used to be decent for extremely casual social gaming with friends in person.

Everything else has been horrible for years.

PES is dead. We don’t name whatever is out there now to replace it, no one should

echo64,

the answer is, Fifa (now ea sports fc). there’s a reason that it’s the only game in town when it comes to the most popular sport on the planet. For all it’s many many faults around ethics, it’s far and away the “best”

Look up smoke patch, it’s a free version of pes21(?) With updated transfers. It’s pretty fun

smallaubergine, (edited ) do games w Cal Kestis actor confirms Star Wars Jedi 3 during Comic Con panel

I found Cal Kestis to be the most generic sounding and looking Star wars character. The games are fun but I found myself uninterested in him as a character

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

I agree with you, he’s kind of a blank slate.
I think that works for a video game though.

It’s also refreshingly NOT the chosen one or blood line thing that’s a bit overdone in Star Wars.
(Crossing my fingers he’s not secretly a long lost Skywalker, Palpatine or Kenobi relative)

Many stories introduce the protagonist in their prime, or when they’re at their most interesting, then eventually release an origin story.
The first game felt like an origin story for a dude I didn’t know. (Haven’t played the second game yet)

My guess (hope) is he’ll feel more interesting as he gets more exposure and character development as games come out and we kinda get to see him grow as we play.

smallaubergine,

Yeah I get what you're saying about him being a blank slate. I guess I'm just tired of generic white dudes as being the definition of blank slate. I hope he does get more interesting, I found the other characters far more fun to follow than Cal

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yea for sure, he could have been a blank slate without being as bland or generic. By that I absolutely don’t mean to imply the actor is any of these things, but that they played it safe in character design.
Expecially in a universe of endless aliens.
It’s not even a choice that has to be limited between our own human heritages.

I vote Ewok Jedi myself.

JackDark, do games w Interview: Capcom explains why Dragon’s Dogma 2 has taken so long

First and foremost, if Itsuno-san doesn’t have time to be the director of the game, it can’t really get made. So having an opportunity to have him spend the time he needed on the game and being able to bring together the other resources needed, such as a large team to work on a game with this scope, just took some years for that all to really fit together. And then once it did, we got started.

Vordus, do gaming w Former PlayStation exec joins Xbox to lead Japanese partnerships | VGC

Now there’s a difficult job!

NuPNuA,

Aside from Square, MS seem to have a good relationship with most Japanese publishers at the moment. Bamco, Capcom, Konami and Sega all support the format with Sega seemingly all in on Gamepass (the Yakuza franchise has been a mainstay on there since I signed up four odd years ago). Capcom just put a game on GP day one.

Goronmon, do gaming w Todd Howard wants Elder Scrolls 6 to be ‘the ultimate fantasy-world simulator’

Elder Scrolls games don't really have any direct competition.

Just releasing a slightly improved version of Skyrim would make that game the "ultimate fantasy simulator".

regalia, do gaming w Denuvo security is now on Switch, including new tech to block PC Switch emulation

Well they’re a little late at least. All the good games worth getting on the Switch are already out, and it’ll be about a year until Switch 2 will probably be out.

miracleorange,

Could be doing this in preparation for the Switch 2.

bankimu,

Switch 2 should then be a much less of a hit than Switch. Already Steam Deck has proven to be a far better handheld gaming console.

Atemu,
@Atemu@lemmy.ml avatar

Given this is Nintendo, I highly doubt this code would be portable to the new console.

Weirdfish, do games w Ubisoft makes further appointment for future of Far Cry IP | VGC

Farcry is one of my favorite series, and like so many ubisoft titles, they ruined it.

Leveled gear and enemies can fuck right off.

At least they spent time and fixed most of the issues with breakpoint.

I made the mistake of preordering 6, played for a couple hours, and never touched it again.

Still go back and play 2, 3, Primal, and 5 about once a year and have a wonderful time.

I’d love to see another good farcry, as well as ghost recon and splinter cell. Going to wait to see the reviews and understand the game mechanics before ever buying another ubisoft product.

Samwizegamgi42,

Please for the love of all that is good! Please give us a (good) Splinter Cell game on modern consoles/pc

PatFussy, do games w Larian working on mid-game Baldur’s Gate 3 character customisation

Ive had more issues on this game than not having the right haircut… ive had scenes turn black mid dialogue, clipping through walls, weird camera angles that force my character to T-pose… the list goes on. The game is great as long as it doesnt get bugged out

Duke_Nukem_1990,

All of those sound like minor bugs at worst tbh

Artaca,

They sound minor, they look hilarious, but then your smile fades as whatever is causing the bug blocks input to try and get past it, forcing a reload. I’m LOVING this game, but out of the 20 or so hours I’ve been able to sink into it since launch, a solid 2-3 of those hours have been retracing steps or generally trying to circumvent big bugs.

(Full disclosure: I am playing exclusively on the Steam Deck which I am 99.9% certain is the reason for all of the bugs I face)

Duke_Nukem_1990,

Interesting! I haven’t encountered any such bugs on Arch Linux (I use arch btw) so maybe there is some specific deck trickery going on.

themusicman,

Not sure if the steam deck gives you this option, but I’ve found the directx version to be much more stable than Vulcan when using proton

Andy293,

That’s so strange, I am 40 hrs in and can’t remember any bugs.

The only annoying thing is the camera that sometimes doesn’t show the layer I want so see and it’s sometimes hard to navigate, but I wouldn’t count that as a bug. Also characters in my party walking over hazardous areas when following the main char is so fucking annoying. I’m like 99% sure they didn’t do that in divinity original sin 2

PatFussy,

Yeah im also about 40 hours in and ive had at least 4 or 5 force quits where ive lost about an hour of time. Ive had bugs right from the beginning. In the cutscene where you leave the ship, ive had 2 friends say their screen either just flickered or their screen froze on screen for minutes. It was funny because they were playing naked and the screen froze on their butt for a solid 2 minutes. This is only within the first 1 hour. Ive had maybe 20 or 30 occurances where the screen freezes and I have to either wait for the game to unfreeze or it goes to that force quit i mentioned earlier.

I know the teams are different but i just thought its weird that its not talked about. It cant be just my group of friends that has these issues.

RegularGoose, (edited )

Ive had more issues on this game than not having the right haircut…

Sure, but it’s not like the team responsible for fixing those bugs is likely to be the same team working on character creation. Any time any studio announces something like this, people suddenly act like division of labor isn’t a thing. If you’re running a store and new inventory needs to get unloaded off the truck, you wouldn’t shut down the checkouts and send your cashiers who don’t drive forklifts to go do it.

wesker, do gaming w Microsoft support for Windows 10 officially ends today, but a third of Steam players still use it | VGC
@wesker@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I tried Bazzite for the first time last weekend. I was shook at how far Linux gaming has come. Some of the games I play actually saw performance increases.

I don’t see any reason to return to Windows for gaming, except maybe a sandboxed VM for the very rare game that requires kernel-level anti cheat.

knowone,

I’ve got Mint as my main OS for everything except Windows, which I use solely for gaming. Would you say it’s worth just replacing windows with Bazzite? I pirate some games and only a portion of my games are on Steam, so I always thought it might not be the best idea to leave windows behind altogether. Also I’m basically a novice with command lines and such (hence why I’m using Mint)

wesker,
@wesker@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I can’t make any recommendations yet, I’m still very early in my own evaluation. I can say with Bazzite, most functionality seems available by UI. They also include tooling to manage manually installed games, as well as other platforms such as GOG, etc.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I believe the final frontier for Linux gaming - apart from some niche cases - is multiplayer games with kernel-level anticheat. They are literally impossible to play on Linux, so if you’re into one of those then don’t bother.

The other edge case is modding. A lot of mods work just fine on Linux, but some just don’t and some - like those relying on Mod Managers and the like - might require more fiddling and specific tinkering. If you do a lot of modding it’s probably easier to stick to Windows as you know everything just works.

Otherwise you should be good to try.

DebatableRaccoon,

Not to mention general support from software companies. I recently endeavoured to try Bazzite only to find out I can’t install my VPN’s client on it because there’s not a flatpak version. Given a handful of other programs I specifically like and would need to find workarounds or alternatives to, I won’t be jumping over anytime soon.

SincerityIsCool,

I use mint for gaming and it works just fine. Granted my computer isn’t particularly new, and I have an AMD GPU (nvidia is more finicky and some distros support it better than others out of the box)

megopie,

You’d probably be fine using mint.

Like, if you’re using an Nvidia graphics card you’d want to use mint’s built in driver manger GUI (don’t need to even use the command line) to make sure you have the best driver. If you have AMD graphics (ether iGPU or dedicated GPU) you don’t even have to do that. The main thing that Bazzite does is have the right Nvidia graphics drivers out of the box.

The main difference between the two is the package manager, the thing that downloads programs and makes sure they have all the dependencies they need to run. Bazzite is fedora derived so it uses DNF instead of the Debian derived APT for package management. Frankly the differences between the two are not really material.

Ether way, Lutris will get windows versions of games running as well as steam does, and any game can be added to Lutris regardless of how you got it, if not from one of the major store fronts you just have point Lutris to the files.

Faydaikin,

I use Mint as well. Haven’t had any major problems using it for gaming.

Steam and Lutris pretty much has me covered.

Welcome to the family! I can’t remember the last time I needed windows for a game!

SteakSneak,

Would a sandboxed VM work for league of legends? Its the one game I occasionally play with friends that I haven’t been able to since moving to Linux. Not that I miss it much, just don’t want to be left out 🥺

Duke_Nukem_1990,

They use a kernel level anticheat don’t they? If so, no cigar I am afraid.

umbrella,
@umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

ha some kernel level anticheat now detects and blocks vms without a lot of work to hide it.

i’m determined to install windows on a spare hdd and cheat the hell out of fortnite, just out of spite.
