The copyright term for works owned by a corporation should be cut wayyyy down. I’m fine with a long copyright if it’s owned by a person, but corporations shouldn’t be able to lock down things that are older than like 20 years old. People shouldn’t be forced to buy a long discontinued console in order to legally play a old game.
Meh. Even small corps often do something well once and then fall to the wayside.Nintendo has been pretty good at recreating their core IP, whether it’s the 3D version of Metroid on GC or open-world Zelda on Switch.
If they’d actually bought out the Palworld IP (assuming that was an available option) that would have meant cash for the devs and a way to work with it in a way that was unique but inclusive to the Pokemon franchise. A lot of people are getting tired of the latter because it has become rather stagnant, but the new mechanics with the official Pokemon characters/stats/etc could have benefitted both
Nintendo doesn’t do that though. They don’t go “wow, this looks cool and there’s real interest. Maybe we could work with the dev and make it an official product. They’ve done most of the work already!” It’s lawsuits all the way
My guess at the real reason for all this grave dancing is that it feels like a victory over FOMO. If the new $40 game sucks and no one is playing it, I can safely go back to whatever I was playing before without worrying that anyone’s having fun without me.
i don’t know what most people’s reasons for deriving enjoyment from concord’s failure are, but there’s no way FOMO cracks the top 3 lmao
seeing the trailer, i definitely thought it was a bandwagon hero shooter that might have had some creativity if a bunch of suits didn’t say “make it GotG”, but realistically, it launched with little fanfare, in competition with valve’s first new game (beta) in ages. not that it was fated to fail but it didn’t have a lot going for it
It does feel like there’s a lot of writers out there that see a lot of “X” and aim to poke fun at how much “X” we see…but don’t realize that media is so pervasive that they’re aware of their own faults, and able to play around them.
A long time ago there was an attempt by a comedy show to make fun of comic books, by having The Joker tell jokes and make fun of Superman’s underwear-on-outside…not realizing he does exactly that in the comics.
Really, I think a lot of writers just need to go back to basics on recognizing what constitutes an original idea. It’s certainly not easy.
Fuck off entirely. Don’t try to hype it, there is only wait and see with this one. They absolutely fucked dragon age already. They could have done nothing but increment on Origins.
Could have gone the larian rout. But no, new engine, new mechanics, every game, that no one ever asked for or wanted.
Stop ruining working formulas. Stop getting hyped for empty promises. Make them earn it.
