But honestly, going from software rendering to 3D acceleration with a 3dfx Voodoo 2 accelerator with a whopping 8 MB RAM made me appreciate FPS. I spent several minutes just switching weapons in Jedi Knight and marveling at how quickly that suddenly went.
That’s so funny you say that, Jedi Knight is where I first got to appreciate 3D acceleration, too. I must have racked up hundreds of hours in that game once upon a time.
Funny thing is that the game is actually worse 3D accelerated because the trilinear filtering made textures blurry and thus removed special colors that made specific colors glow in the dark.
I was genuinely upset that my parents didn’t get me the 12 MB version which locked me at 800x600. But I didn’t really get the distinction between system RAM and graphics RAM so I couldn’t formulate my frustration.
I played warcraft 3 with literally less than 1fps during combat. Out of combat it was like 20fps during which I would prepare then attack move and go take a break
Yeah, I played through roc and tft many times before finally getting into MP, the trick was usually to try and find the maps on epic war first and dl them ahead of time, or find really nice people who’d let you stay to dl, most of the ones I played weren’t too large like kodo or ent tag, or any of the line tower/maul gsmes but the old RP maps took forever.
I gave back a bit and would host DL Only games while at school so peeps could come in and dl maps :p
Actually not that bad, AK47s for arms mostly negates the praying mantis’ most dangerous feature which is it’s grip. Also, gorillas tend to use their hands while walking, so the AKs would get their barrels full of dirt.
Or maybe this is more mantis body and gorilla members? Which would be just a cricket with a funny butt.
Page 4: GorillAk47 is beating on the door in a rampage. I had taquitos for lunch today. I’ve synthesized a cure for the T-virus and it’s in the crucible right now. I just hope the door holds and GorillAk47 doesn’t destroy the lab because this is the last chance for humani–
Zoom out to a fully destroyed lab with blood everywhere
Not sure how or if it’s mess up current saves or not, but if you’ve not considered it yet, is would recommend trying it A Tale Of Two Wastelands. Merges FO3’s Capital Wasteland with FNV’s Mojave via train ride. Keeps all the mechanics as well.
You cannot use an existing Fallout: New Vegas save to play TTW. Even though a save might load, there are too many changes for it to work correctly. No support is provided if you do this anyway.
Saves made with previous versions of TTW will not work with 3.x. Too many changes were made to allow saves to be compatible.
I figured that was the case, but what’s the fun of modding without some screwed up textures, some futzing around with the 254 esp limit, and a couple of annoying CTDs?
I did consider mods for FNV, especially ones that expand the world and lets you keep DLC companions. But I’m playing on Steam Deck, but Skyrim already was a headache for me to do, so I decided against it
I still need to do the main story. I’m trying to do them in some sort of Chronological order. I think the only one I for sure will do after the main game is Lonesome road. It just feels right
I’ve been thinking of playing again, but performance/optimization has always been terrible for me, and I even upgraded most of my components from 2016 era to 2022.
It’s still the game where the developers earned my most honest respect. I cannot even fathom how hard it must have been to keep pushing trough the time past launch and keep adding and adding and adding stuff. IMO they’ve reached a point past read redemption long ago and it’s allways a joy to see a new update trailer.
Yeah. Personally I don’t like the game (like every sandbo) but ai have to admit that they are an example of redemption (I hope for others as well) by a developer who slowly tried to make up for his mistakes. Worth buying for that alone
For this type of game, performance is really inconsistent. Without even building a mega base etc, sometimes it’ll decide to just start moving as a slide show at like 20 fps. When I first load it it runs nicely at 100fps (with some tuning of the graphics).
Its especially bad if you go into a new town. Sometimes it’ll go fine, but chances are it’ll run like shit until you close the game and reopen it.
