I played this about a month ago after it was on sale. I genuinely like the survival/crafting genre and this was a fun way to experience settings from a series I’ve loved. I also had a lot of fun playing through this even with the “floaty” combat and optimization issues. As long as the developers continue to update the game to help it run a little easier, it’s definitely worth picking up if you’d like a new spin on the genre. Played on PS5 and it got very warm.
You’re welcome! Like I mentioned, I almost didn’t get to post today thanks to computer issues. Fortunately, I have a few other non-gaming computers floating around my home (I used to be an IT guy), so my screenshots might not be 4K quality, but I could technically find something else to play with if I needed to.
Actually I have a Steam Deck too! I wonder how decent its resolution/graphics would look on a PC screen…
The Wii u was better (when the game developer used it correctly), it was a separate screen that showed different content. It was more like a DS.
Some of the games in Nintendo land were excellent local multiplayer games that will never get replicated again. They made great use of the second screen concepts.
I know, I had one, but it also had a base station that was the actual processing unit connected to the TV, so the handheld was essentially a remote monitor. Aka this meme doesn’t work because it’s missing half the wiiU unit.
I loved playing hyrule warriors (the first one) on it, because you could play local co-op but not split screen, without needing another unit. It was an absolutely superior experience to split screen.
I wish there was something similar with a higher quality screen, but I think that ship has probably sailed.
Not joking, I’m secretely hoping their new console is the same format as Switch, but lets us use a 2nd unit or an old Switch as a screened controller. Ever since Resident Evil on Dreamcast I’ve been thinking every console could use a ‘HUD in the controller’
I also loved my Wii U. It’s such a shame it wasn’t more popular. I basically used it like a switch with a box that needed to be plugged in, just took the console places and anywhere with an outlet I could plug in and play on the screen. Obviously the switch is the superior console but the Wii U was a banger.
A guy I used to work with was convinced the whole thing was a scam. “Did his own research” and determined that all he needed was the console to upgrade his Wii. So he bought one secondhand. For his kids. Didn’t quite work out the way he had hoped. Eventually broke down and bought the pad etc.
He was not the brightest bulb, just the type to think of himself as such.
This does look fun, my first thoughts went back to the mx vs atv series. Any racing game that allows physical violence against your adversaries is a formula for a good time 😁
If you plan on buying though - do note while it is quite fun, it is also buggy and unbalanced (chars/bikes/lack of necessary boosts on some levels/etc.) in some situations and therefore it might be hard. Played this on local coop with my partner and we got random hangs after crossing the finish line or 2nd player might not respawn after being thrown off the bike, etc. Definitely seems like abandoned by the studio so don’t expect updates. We’ve bought it on a steam sale so it wasn’t expensive or anything, but it is a shame that it wasn’t polished enough.
In the 18+ hours I’ve played, I only had one enemy takedown mission where the number didn’t go down as I killed enemies. Other than that, I’ve never experienced any bugs in this game.
But I’ve played exclusively solo campaign mode, so maybe there’s something there. I did try to go online last night and it just errored out, so maybe multiplayer/online mode is buggy.
Lucky you I guess, we’ve primarily played local coop, 2 xbox controllers and on a clean win10, maybe ~8hrs max. 1 out of 4 levels, the game was either stuck after finishing (had to be closed via task mngr), one player could not respawn for the entirety of the level and the other had to finish it alone, or we just couldn’t get close to boss to kill him. Solo was I think without much of these issues, but ofc not as fun :)
If you like, the developer displays his phone number on screen every time you die. You could try to reach out to him and let him know his game is broken. If he’s still engaged with the game, he might look into it.
