Quest 64 really brings me back. I haven’t thought about that game in a long time.

That guy was not even born when battletoads was made

Pronell, do gaming w Justice

Fuck man, I loved that game!

Never beat it without cheating but I loved it!

I’d kick him out because the game came out in 1991 and he is way too old to be with my daughter.

Battletoads was so unbelievably rad that anyone who worked on it will stay young forever.

Ultraviolet,

The fucked up thing is that the Turbo Tunnel is actually one of the easiest levels in the game. The only levels easier than it are the first two and Surf City. Everything from the Snake Pit onward is where it gets really tough, but so few people get there that they don’t have the same level of notoriety.

Who the hell isn’t playing the first two Yakuza games but starts at 3? They’ve both been remastered and are some of the best in the series.

gila,

I think they meant the original versions of 1&2, because they are fixed-perspective, which for most people is just inferior. Whether you have nostalgia for those stories or not, almost everyone playing them are playing the Kiwami versions (which is also one of the main arguments many people give for why Yakuza 3 doesn’t need the Kiwami treatment).

For me, stealth optional is a challenge to use it. I can’t resist being the stealthiest boi I can be, on the off chance there’s unique dialogue or rewards. It works ten percent of a quarter of the time.

CluckN, do gaming w Don't mind if I do

Hitman 3 giving me a huge arsenal of cool weapons and then telling me, “Just kidding follow this NPC for 20 minutes and make him eat his dog”.

BruceTwarzen,

Hitman gives you weapons, poison and explosives.
No thanks, i'll use this muffin to jump over a fence.

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

I’m a huge Hitman fan (even been streaming it recently because why not). Have the same opinion. It’s why despite SASO being within my range to accomplish with some amount of ease for most missions they all devolve into mass murder. It’s just more fun to use all that shit. That’s also why Freelancer mode is so much fun. You get extra objectives to specifically use assault rifles or snipers or explosives and are REWARDED for it. Bang bang boom

mhague, do gaming w Don't mind if I do

“Stealth is optional” has a way of turning into “clandestine Rambo storm tactics that morph into raining hellfire is mandatory.”

When stealth is not optional: “Of course, what fun! …I’m going to fucking kill you.”

dumpsterlid, do gaming w Git gud

Git off discord tho for game development, it ends up causing only the types of people who are really active on discord to interact and give feedback and I have seen that really send some games off the rails as the rest of the playerbase begins to get the vibe the game is being developed for a small sliver of the game’s fans (the ones on discord and really active).

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Seriously. Definitely gives the loudest a place to control how games should work. And when they don’t get their way, they get loud in other places and make drama.

Donut,

Any dev worth their salt knows to balance and weigh the feedback across all channels. Discord is easy for quick troubleshooting and frequently asked questions. I see devs have some issues with Steam forums because of the toxicity, but most still take feedback from there too.

Usually Discord is just a funnel to redirect feedback to an internal backlog though. Together with all the other channels, including in-game reporting tools.

dumpsterlid,

I am sure most devs who primarily interact with their game’s community through discord believe they are listening to feedback from a variety of sources, but it is clear to me in every case I know of where a game has “join our discord!” plastered all over the store page that functionally the only place where your feedback will actually be taken seriously and get to the devs is discord.

Donut,

That might just be the instant chat nature of Discord and how it’s easier to get a reply on there. I’m sure if you went the classic route of sending email it would be acknowledged as well, generally speaking.

CancerMancer,

One of the biggest mistakes I keep seeing devs make is listening to the no-lifers who live on social media. Especially the content whiners: fuck content, make the game work right first.

Speaking from experience giving the loudest users real time access to your sanity isn’t great either. Better to corral them into a slower mode of communication, such as an old fashion forum or use githubs “discussions” feature. Then you can spend your weekend on unwinding without a bunch of kids screeching that they’ve been ignored because you missed some message that was checks notes 200 paragraphs of back scrolling.

p.s. its 1000x worse when you inherit this kind of “community” from someone before you who let the monkeys do whatever. All I can say is thank god discord has that slow-mode feature now.

CaptainBasculin, do gaming w Git gud

git: ‘gud’ is not a git command. See ‘git -help’.

Norgur,

Why is this not an easter egg at this point?

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Because then it will be lame after a decade.

I cringe at all the Easter eggs and In-jokes of the 80s-90s.

odelik,

Which ones do you cringe at?

I find most of them amusing and witty. Especially things like WINE’s name being a recursion joke.

AlexisFR, do games w do you guys think this game needs a remake?
@AlexisFR@jlai.lu avatar

The already did a remake in 2012, it was not liked.

djsoren19, do games w do you guys think this game needs a remake?

It got one? The HD collection came out in 2012 and is honestly still pretty good, plus you get DMC3 with it.

I’m generally against remaking games that are currently perfectly playable. I’d vastly prefer getting DMC6 before they re-release the original for a second time.

all-knight-party,
@all-knight-party@kbin.run avatar

I second this. Especially since I think the first one still holds up. You will have to reintegrate your brain into being cool with the locked camera, but the game still plays well and has a lot of fun moments. DMC has had a really fantastic and interesting life beyond the original entries, so I think it'd be more fulfilling and interesting keep seeing what can be done with the series than to try and mine old content.

memo,

To be fair:

  • it got a remaster; a remake is usually something that recreates the game from scratch.
  • DMC1 did not age that well in terms of gameplay, imo, as much as DMC3 did; it’s a little stiffy! But it is true that it still plays much better than many PS2 games.
