I hope it lives up to half the promise of the trailer

VelvetStorm,

I’ve learned that they never do. I’m still cautiously hopeful about this game though.

PeterPoopshit,

If they really have been working on this for the past 4 years like they say, I wouldn’t go as far as to say it will live up to the trailer and hype but it’s still a unique idea that hasn’t been done to death so unless they sell out or really fuck up, I think it will still be a good game.

If this wasn’t an indie game it would have no chance. An AAA studio or publisher would never risk pursuing a new idea like this in the first place though

VelvetStorm,

I waited even longer for cyberpunk 2077.

This is the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen

New mount and blade looks legit!

This is going to cause so many remakes of that one scene from GATE.

Assassin’s Creed is not relevant enough to justify a live service game but I’m not surprised ubisoft didn’t stop halfway through production to change course.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Not relevant enough? Valhalla made Ubisoft $1 billion. It's one of those games that sells to the type of person who only buys a couple of games per year alongside sports titles and Rockstar games.

Stovetop,

Valhalla was one of the few games that launched on newer consoles, with visual enhancements over the previous gen, which may have had something to do with it. People were looking for something that would take advantage of the hardware they just sank a lot of money on and there weren’t many choices on the market at the time.

I’d say Mirage, the more recent game, should be indicative enough of the health of the series and made them $250 million, which is still good but not Valhalla level.

I’m assuming that this one will perform better because a Japan game is what people have been clamoring for this whole time, but I think this is still going to demonstrate a downward trend for the series overall.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 is rumored to be announced sometime soon, though, and that’s what I’m holding out for.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

Assassin's Creed has just been doing numbers basically since forever, which is why Ubisoft turned into a machine that puts out one of those games every year. Valhalla was no exception. Mirage, however, is the exception. Ubisoft showed their lack of confidence in the title by pricing it lower. It was no secret to those who followed its development that it was spun out of a DLC for Valhalla, and reviews reflected the amount of effort Ubisoft put into it.

They’re a decade and a half late on this. We were still playing as Altair when everyone said this would be a great ninja game mechanics wise. Now they’re finally doing it but Ubisoft is a shadow of the studio they used to be quality-wise.

I haven’t bought anything from them in almost 10 years and have no intention to since it’s been the same bad game over and over with just more cosmetic stores and micro transactions galore.

Oki

cyberpunk.net/…/cyberpunk-2077-phantom-liberty-tw…

Purchase 2 Twitch subscriptions of any tier to eligible Twitch partners and affiliates playing Cyberpunk 2077 for yourself or others. Doing so will earn you the unique Yasha sniper rifle as a reward.

DeathsEmbrace,

Let’s just say Cyberpunk 2077 was more a capitalist feat than a game…

That’s one specific promotion, not really the same as embedding microtransactions in the game

schmidtster,

How many times do you need the wool pulled over your eyes before you see this company for what it really is? Lol

warm,

Aha yeah, there's no place for random rewards either, same shit in Baldur's Gate 3.

roguetrick, do gaming w CD Projekt CFO does "not see a place for microtransactions in single-player games"

Water is wet. You could've easily written the headline saying CD projekt sees future in multiplayer micro transactions. He specifically was hedging that fact with the interview question answer that did not specify between the two. Then this article pops up to carry their water.

The sad part is, they didn't even likely pay him for this.

But what are his thoughts about over promising a game and releasing it in an absolutely laughable state and then sell a dlc after almost fixing said game years later?

Tell that to people defending micro transactions in dragons dogma. “But you can earn it in game for free!” except it takes hours to get enough in game currency to customize 1 character (you have 2) unless your second character gets hired, which is unreliable. That same currency is also needed to unlock cosmetics like being able to use the red color in the character creator.

BTW, nioh 2 you unlock customising your character after the first mission and it costs nothing in game, you can do it as many times as you want.

Crowfiend, do gaming w CD Projekt CFO does "not see a place for microtransactions in single-player games"

Man, DD just keeps losing to CD Projekt. I remember DD originally came out for console right when I made the switch to PC, and when they finally released on PC? Same exact day as Witcher 3 release.

Something something shadow of giants.

Like honestly, DD devs clearly don’t think things through, and if I didn’t absolutely love the first one, I wouldn’t be giving 2 as much slack as I am.

AAA-Category was already stupid in the first place. It originates from grading systems, but instead of a sane A - F grading or 100% - 0% we got AAA and Indy.

uninvitedguest, (edited )
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

Pretty sure it comes from credit rating systems.

teawrecks,

Pretty sure it comes from America Automobile Associations.

mogoh,

I think one could call credit rating a grading system. But I won’t die on this hill.

AndrasKrigare,

I agree, but I think AA also exists. I’d put Remnant From the Ashes in that category

Katana314,

no it’s because you have to put two AAA batteries in the disc to play the game
