mrfriki, do gaming w Do you know any singleplayer games that are infinitely replayable?

Strictly speaking about single player games, as in no rogue likes and such, Max Payne 2 is probably the game I played most times over the years.

If you’re into boomer shooters, you can’t go past the original doom for infinite playability. Literally 30 years worth of user created content and mods.

You can get hundreds of hours out of Binding of Isaac, easy

I’ve been recently playing the “so called” sequel to ftl, ftl multiverse. I have gotten the standard and old secret endings, but there are hints of a third even harder to find ending.

Generally games with random elements are considered to be good for dumping tons of hours into. So games with randomly generated worlds like Minecraft, roguelikes, strategy games that are always variant just because of the nature of AI actions always being a little randomized, and other stuff like that. So maybe like Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, Crusader Kings 2 or 3 as like a basic list. But really the game that’s going to be the most replayable is the one you don’t get tired of. I’ve beaten Thief: The Dark Project hundreds of times and that game is a relatively simple level-based stealth game with no random elements and not even especially huge levels.

Europa Universalis 4. And EU5 is on the horizon.

Definitely not like the games you’ve mentioned though.

BrundleFly2077, do games w Funny bad games reviews

MangaloreGaming has some absolutely hilarious reviews of exceedingly bad games.

uymai, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

Switch controller hands down— the drift is annoying, but the worst is when half your controller just disconnects

Thelsim, do gaming w I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used?

The very worst controller I’ve ever used was this no-name joystick in the 90s. You had to grip like a claw, which looked kind of cool and futuristic but was awful in use. The base was tiny and it had these suction cups that didn’t work at all.
But the very very worst thing about it, was that the input was binary! It was either on or off, no gradual movements or anything. Basically it was an oversized d-pad.

I borrowed it from a friend so I could try Rebel Assault, which looked so awesome what with CD-ROMs being a new thing. But that joystick ruined the experience so much! Try flying a ship through a canyon when all you can do is hard turns in 8 different directions. I constantly crashed within the first 10 seconds of the game and kept thinking it was my fault for being a crap player.
I still hate that monstrosity with every fiber of my being.

Grimpen,

Flashbacks! This reminds me of my first Gravis Gamepad (IIRC). Was a disappointing joystick, even compared to old Intellivision controllers.

It was okay with fighting games, and I do recall a nineties PC giant robot fighting game (One Must Fall maybe?)

Still, my first joystick that I actually loved and made a game much better was an old CH Products flightstick. Early flightstick, so it only added a throttle to the base, so no rudder control.

I remember playing Comanche Maximum Overkill with that stick and just popping in and out of canyons. Also Earthsiege and Strike Force Centauri. I ended up with a Saitek Flightstick, and it was even better (Independence War is a fond memory) but the difference was not as revolutionary as going from a regular joystick to that first CH Products flightstick.

Benaaasaaas, do games w Are there any good casual/low-stress mobile games that aren't filled with microtransactions?

Old school RuneScape, it has free “demo” version which you can easily put a 100+ hours in. And if you really love there is a subscription model that’s kinda expensive if you bill monthly, but no other micro transactions.

KillingTimeItself, do games w Are there any good casual/low-stress mobile games that aren't filled with microtransactions?
  1. Though im sure that one has ads. Probably depends on what you grab from the internet, as usual.

Mobile games suck.

Randelung,

Heh, it’s a numbered list.

KillingTimeItself,

markdown formatting is weird bruh, sometimes it adds spaces, sometimes it removes them sometimes it just fucking yeets newlines, sometimes it adds them, what a weird “standard”

morbidcactus, do gaming w What are your favourite controllers?

I really liked the wavebird for the gamecube, unfortunately mine went into the aether on my last move, got bluetooth adapters to pair modern controllers with it but the wavebird was really cool at the time, was really amazing to not have to be tethered to the console and it being first party, though at the time the madcatz stuff was decent.

For recent controllers, I’ve been using a knockoff 360 controller for moonlight recently and after a lot of back and forth I really think MS nailed the controller setup back then (OG Xbox being decent but not a preference, I hated the duke, s controller was solid though), I like the xbone controllers as well, but IMO they’re just iterations on the 360 controller, easily my preference as an all rounder controller layout.

I have a steam controller, used it for a while but it’s been some time now, had some really great ideas, I’d totally go for an updated steamdeck style layout on that, probably a second for me.

I’ve had so much drift issues with ds4s that I personally don’t reach for a ds4 or dualsense for non playstation games, I like being able to swap batteries and the Xbox/Steam controllers all seem to have way better battery life in general, I keep a stock of rechargeables around so not generating piles of waste.

sleepybisexual,

Wacebird seems cool

morbidcactus,

Totally was, it didn’t have rumble for battery life reasons, but didn’t miss it much at the time, barely used the rumble pack on the n64, think I got mine at EB games to try out the OOT secret hint feature (it’d buzz the pack if you were near a hidden secret), feedback has come a LONG way since then in terms of immersion.
