AgentGrimstone, do gaming w Best Soulslike game for beginners?

I say just dive into the real souls games. Like everyone else, I recommend Elden Ring or DS3 (don’t worry about skipping the first 2 games, you won’t get the story anyway, most people don’t lol).

If you insist on trying something to ease you in, I actually recommend Tales of Iron. It’s a 2D game but the combat is very souls like in the sense that it’s challenging and you have to learn enemy timing and attack patterns.

I recommend Code Vein. Then just jump into either Elden Ring or DS3.

Tunic! Bonus points for being one of the best games of all time.

If you have a PS4/5, Bloodborne has the most simplified mechanics of the From Software Souls style games.

Taking a stroll through my library:

  • The Ascent: Cyberpunk Action RPG, nice action and story, single/coop.
  • Star Valor: Top-Down Action space. not so much story wise, but great gameplay, costumisation, fleets, and the upcoming addon will add station building and (more) faction warfare.
  • Weird West: from the Arkane Austin crew (Prey 2016, Dishonored). Good story, immersive gameplay, and a innovative world. It’s 3rd person, but there is a mod which makes it 1st person!
  • Mortal Sin: Roguelike Melee-FPS. lots of fun, and the dev just replaced the level generation completely, adding verticality and much more variety.
  • Golden light: another Roguelike FPS, its on the weird side, but a lot to explore, had a lot of fun with that one!
  • Hardspace: Shipbreaker: scrapping spaceships in zero-g has never been more fun! good storyline highlighting the plight of workers in an inhumane system, and what they can do about it.
  • Styx: Master of Shadows: Thief-like gameplay, well polished.
  • Red Faction: Guerilla: Older game, Open world is a bit bland, but the realtime destruction of large buildings with explosives will never get old
  • and if you haven’t played it yet: the System Shock Remake is an absolute joy to play.

My current FPS fix is Deadlink: another roguelike FPS, very tight gunplay and movement, good looking too.

if you can give a few examples what games you enjoyed, i can probably point you in the right direction… i think i have a slight game collecting problem with a few thousand titles, but at least i can help people like you out lol

Zahille7,

I really enjoy The Ascent. It’s got a great setting, the gameplay is pretty fun, there are various play styles and builds you can spec into.

The only issue is that the devs seem to be done working on the game, and there are issues. Namely, the last mission of the DLC being bugged so you can’t officially complete it. And it’s been like that for two years at least.

fjordbasa,

I agree on Red Faction: Guerilla, it shows its age with a lot of bland empty spaces and rudimentary models, but the destruction is still a ton of fun

I recently played through Weird West and absolutely loved it. Makes a lot of sense to learn that it was made by former Arkane Austin people.

Disroot.org jest spoko (logują jak najmniej danych się da), Protona odradzam bo słyszałem że osoby korzystające z niego były skutecznie namierzanie przez służby. No i Disroot niedługo będzie mieć szyfrowanie skrzynek oparte na gpg. (Trwają testy.)

Congrats to Billy Basso and to Bigmode for the positive reviews! Always good to see a new IP, studio, and even publisher come out the gate strong.

dalakkin, do games w Favourite controllers

Agree on the Xbox controller. I even bought an adapter to use the Xbox360 controller on my PS3 :D

MurrayL,

Mostly agree, except I’ve never liked the dpad on the 360 controller. An XB1 or Series S|X controller is a noticeable step up IMO!

Life is Strange (1 and True Colors are the best in the series IMO)

I just checked my library and actually seem to have grabbed these for a free a while back, so will be installing these the next few weeks :)

doctorzeromd,

I’d start with 1, they’re not chronological but I think it was the best in the series. True Colors is second.

Ill do that then, thanks :)

Oxenfree is an adventure game that takes place on an island off the coast of northern Oregon. Good little game that tells its story in about 5 hours.

As others have said, it’s called self censorship. If you don’t like a game, don’t buy it. If you like porn buy it.

account_93, do gaming w Why do mobile games suck nowadays?

99% of people think all mobile games should be free to use. So they go for P2W to make money.

They wouldnt make anywhere close to the amount they do via P2W if they did an upfront cost.

authorinthedark, do gaming w Interactive Loading Screens - High Hell

the worst kind of interactive loading screen is one that is fun on a game that loads quickly.

This is of course a problem that should only be complained about and never fixed, please don’t make your game load slower just so that i have enough time to press buttons

Kissaki,

Maybe it should only finish loading after you beat the mini-game? 🤡

DaddleDew, (edited ) do games w Half Life 3

What you are asking for is for Valve to start behaving like developers like EA and Activision, who keep milking the crap out of their franchises with one bland generic release after the other for a quick cash grab.

The fact that Gaben doesn’t force his employees to work on the game just to make money is the reason why Half-Life games are of such good quality. The employees at Valve work on what they are motivated to work on at the moment. They aren’t being given arbitrary deadlines from overhead either. This is how we got amazing games like Team Fortress 2 and the Portal games too. Both Half-Life games were major milestones in video game history by pushing the envelope. And currently, no Valve employees believe that the conditions are currently set for this to happen with a new Half-Life 3. It would never meet the hype if they tried right now and it would be a huge disappointment.

Half-Life 3 isn’t vaporware either as Valve openly admits that they are not working on it at the moment.

Just accept that great things can’t happen as often as we wished they did.

Speaking of Team Fortress 2 and Portal, I have been around to witness other attempted iterations of what TF2 could have been been, only to be abandoned by Valve because it wasn’t good enough. Then Valve finally got their vision for what the game ultimately ended up being and then suddenly everyone was motivated to work on the game. The first Portal game was also an experiment that motivated Valve employees to work on the sequel. Hopefully one day there will be a lightbulb moment in Valve and everyone will be motivated on working on Half-Life 3 and the resulting product will surely be worthy of the name. But you can’t force it to happen.

Hopefully it will happen while Gaben is still in control of Valve though because there is no telling what will happen to the company’s unique culture and philosophy after that.
