I’ve watched two people online play the game and both pretty much slammed it. It should absolutely have been free with the console. Is $10 really disposable enough income to spend on what is essentially an ad for the console you’ve already bought and a handful of minigames? 7/10 is a wild score to give it, but I guess reviewers get these games for free anyway so price doesn’t matter.

theangriestbird,

Yeah it’s a bizarre choice. I’d bet the actual developers of the game were not the same people that made the choice to charge money for the game.

Pnut, do gaming w How could they do this?

My dad once tried to get to know me. I was playing star wars podracer on the N64. He made it about a third of the way through the first lap, tossed the controller down and said that it was hurting his back.

We never saw him again.

NigelFrobisher, do games w How do you keep track of what games you have played over the years?

Your memory?

theangriestbird, (edited ) do gaming w Mario Kart World | Review Thread

Evidently the CBR review is straight up lying. The game does not do 4k resolution in any setting, and the game can only do 120fps at 1080p.

mienshao,

You need to do some googling because it absolutely does support 4K. Like what?

haych,

Take your own advice. Mario Kart World runs 1440p when docked, not 4k.

mcv, do games w What's going on with Borderlands 2? Steam is giving it for free, but the game has 23% positive recent reviews.

If a game, application, device or EULA changes in a way you find unacceptable, after you’ve purchased it, you should be able to get your initial purchase price back. And if you paid with your data, you need to be able to demand they delete all your data. I think that law would be entirely reasonable and would do a lot of good.

simple, do games w Is there a point in the Dark Souls games where you're too high level to be expected to be summoned by anyone?
@simple@piefed.social avatar

They improved it over time, if you're using a password you can play without level limits in DS3 and Elden Ring. You'll still be nerfed if your level is higher though.

Mechaguana, do games w I made a terminal-based hacker simulation game for CLI nerds. It's free. Feedback?

I played it all night, but got bored when the image wasnt changing after downloading it.

Finally started playing Baldur’s Gate 3. Based in impressions from the first 15ish hours, this may be a strong GOAT contender for me.

warbond,

15 hours, huh? Have you finished creating your first character yet?

Envy,
@Envy@fedia.io avatar

Surely thats enough time to finish one character, get through the Nautilus, and immediately make another character

Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon

Tried the demo and it hooked me. Great game so far.

It certainly looks like it would fill the Skyrim void my brain sometimes has! But also new story that I might finish because I hated skyrims one mostly.

FlashMobOfOne,
@FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world avatar

I’m only in the second zone of the game but there’s a lot to see and do just in the starter dungeon and the game’s first zone. I’m really enjoying it so far.

Crankenstein,

I want this game so bad. I’ve been itching for a Oblivion-style RPG for ages.

meant2live218, do games w The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!

I just finished playing Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and have started Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster. I keep checking wikis and forum posts for information, since I hate missing things (especially things that you can’t get back to). I think from here on out (I’m in one of the 3 Scenario Selects) I’ll keep it as blind as I can.

I finally downloaded Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, and think it’s pretty cool. But maybe it’s just because I haven’t played a Metroidvania in 2 years.

Last but not least, I tried the demo for Big Hops after seeing Giant Bomb’s Unfinished video on it. 3D Platformer that feels very good to move around in. Not sure how deep the story will go, or what mechanics they’ll be adding as the game progresses, but it’s been a delight so far.

kelpie_returns,

If you ever get the urge to replay FF6, the best version (by far) is the fan hack called Brave New World. It removes countless glitches and bugs while also enhancing the level-up, combat, and magic systems, as well as provides a far deeper and more thoughtful quasi-class system (each character has branching ‘classes’ based on which equips/magicites you allow them, providing much better thought out synergies than the original).

As someone who has loved this game for 20+ years now, BNW is very easily the greatest version out there. Def give it a try if you want to see this game re-raised to its fullest potential!

meant2live218,

Thanks! Would you recommend it for someone’s first playthrough, or only for subsequent replays?

kelpie_returns,

It is worth noting that BNW is more difficult than the original, as enemies were rebalanced in order to match the new synergies available to the player. So, if you don’t mind a challenge, then it’s a great way to dive into this title!

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I haven’t played BNW yet (though I really should), but I’d be hesitant to suggest something that makes so many fundamental changes for someone’s first playthrough. The one I tend to recommend is Woolsey Uncensored

I’ve been playing this ‘medieval’ mod(s) for RimWorld which basically limits you to medieval tech and has a lot more crafting spaces to make materials for things, like a loom to make cloth or drying racks to make straw or dried meat. Its neat but a little quirky and doesn’t seem well tuned in parts.

I’ve also been convincing people to try out PULSAR: The Lost Colony, which is like a first person Star Trek adventure co-op game. The game gets pretty close to doing cool stuff, and has great moments, but doesn’t quite nail it overall. That’s almost more frustrating to be honest.

What actually stuck out most to me besides Witcher 4 was their LLM based „Don‘t press the button“ game presentation at the very end of the show. No one is really talking about it because it was really lame but I think it‘s telling how they showed the AI driven stuff after everything else almost to kind of sweep it under the rug because they know most people are already sick of AI but they still had to include it for gullible shareholders or something.

These are all solid additions.

They’ve a lot of work to do, but it is nice to see a roadmap of what’s ahead for them!
