Persona 3/4/5 (not all tracks are instrumentals, but most of them are and they are straight bangers)
Katana Zero
Danganronpa 1, 2, V3
Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 (all I can vouch for, but I hear the later games still have banging soundtracks)
Crosscode
Kingdom Hearts 1/2
Nier Automata
Minecraft
Donkey Kong Country 1/2
VA-11 HALL-A
Catherine Full Body
Deadbolt
Risk of Rain 1/2
Some of these you'd have to sift through, like Silent Hill is one part industrial creepy noise, and one part absolutely incredible hip hop and rock
And older game that people seem to like a lot is Sword of the Stars (2008), while despising the 2nd for lacking features and bugs aplenty. You can get it on GOG too, if you prefer, and being old makes it very cheap even out of a sale. I’ve tried it once but got slightly intimidated by the UI, but then again I barely spent 10 minutes in game (I also gave up on X3 the very first time I played, so…)
For a “lite” version of space empire building, Sins of a Solar Empire can probably satisfy you as well. It’s an RTS, you only play skirmishes, but there’s a lot of setting up new colonies, researching new tech, building stuff besides shipyards, propping up your fleet, etc. Combat doesn’t require a lot of micromanagement, usually just using a capital ship’s power every few seconds and defining target priorities.
I’m not sure why this style isn’t more common! My guess is that the main indie engines (Unreal and Unity) aren’t built for it without some heavy modification, and so if a dev is interested in this style, they settle for voxel graphics that don’t snap to a voxel grid.
I know, I would love to see more games using that style! Then again, I completely understand that it might be easier for some devs to use skeletal animation on voxel models instead of making a static voxel model for every frame of animation.
Been working on Elden Ring Seamless Co-op with some friends - actually two groups, but one plays intermittently so I fork my character to another slot every time. Trying to get my SO to play PlateUp but not much luck there. Also playing Hades Star on mobile but it just makes me want to play EVE hahaha.
