I still use my 2 steam controllers. I want to game on couch so this is the most mouse-like thing I’ve found, back in 2016. What’s up, why don’t they sell these anymore?
I’ve picked up spares over the years on ebay. Used the key words “steam controller 1001” and sorted by price low to high. Once I’ve picked up have been in good condition, since most people just used them once and put them away.
I have two original Steam controllers and I absolutely hated them. The track pads, whereas a cool innovative technology, weren’t good for 90% of my games. I needed that D-pad, or at least a joystick. I hardly used my controllers, and now I just hold onto them as a piece of Valve history.
Mine came with the physical Steam Link box. I bought two of those boxes, so I could use Steam from a couple different places in my home away from my gaming desk. Instead of the controller, I just plugged in a keyboard and mouse to the Steam Link box. They did away with the hardware though, and now it’s just an app on Smart TVs and app stores. So I can’t use my keyboard and mouse without some extra steps.
I’ve owned one since the beginning, and the only major downside to the controller is that it requires relearning. No d pad, touch pads, back buttons are something not found on other controllers, so there is no familiarity you can bring to the device. As a result, you need to rethink and relearn how to use a controller. If you do end up learning it, it can bring a lot to the table because there is nothing like it in terms of customisability.
Sadly i never put in the time and only played simple games on it. I still bust it out for mario kart.
The other minor downside is its not exactly comfortable to use. The handles are angled upwards instead of down which feels unnatural to me… again, probably because no other cobtroller does ot that way.
I keep saying to myself if I ever boot up cities skylines on the TV, I’m waking up the steam controller for it.
That there is no guarantee that I will always have access to a game I like is really what kills it for me as a user. Like, I’m basically paying them the equivalent of the cost of a game every 3 months, but I could loose access to a game I like at any time because it’s no longer on game pass, so I’d be better off just buying games I like outright with that money every three months.
I’d rather my money go directly to studios making things I like, rather than fractionalized among who ever Microsoft decides deserves to make games.
Still working through the Dishonoreds. Almost done with 2 and I’m enjoying it WAYY more than I did back when it came out (and I gave up after 90 minutes).
I would like to get back into Vic3 since I’m hearing lots of good things about 1.9 and the new DLC, but I tend to fizzle out of every Paradox game after 3 hours. Maybe that will change this time?
Since getting an Anbernic something and really liking it, I’ve been trying to use my SteamDeck more but it’s just so not nice to hold or use for more than 30-45 minutes. Alas, I’ve been playing WarGroove (badly) on it.
3 is my favorite personally. Heavily depends on if you are looking for fun gameplay or immersive story IMO. Don’t go in expecting the most complex story known to man. I never played them as a kid and picked them up about 3 years ago and really enjoyed the entire collection.
I played maybe five hours of 3 and maybe it was because I was older than for the previous two, but the sunny “we’re friends and everything is so positive and love and sunshine” was really really grating. It felt like it was way more excessive than the first two, but, again, could be the ages I played them at.
Otherwise it played… Okay? The Disney things were stupid. It felt pretty blah otherwise. Nothing remarkable.
Started the Lies of P: Overture DLC. Rough beginning, getting back into the groove, some bad enemies, that culminated in an absolutely terrible boss fight. Just complete garbage.
You’re stuck in a tiny arena, with a big ass monster, and a terrible camera. You constantly get shoved around, into the walls, clipping halfway into the boss, because of terrible hitboxes, just living life. Half the time I died and couldn’t even see my character, so I had no idea what my mistake was. Did I mistime my block? Or maybe the last block sent me reeling, and I couldn’t react in time? Or maybe I was just on the ground because the hit before that knocked me down? Nobody knows, not even the boss, because his face is inside the wall.
It’s been getting better since then, the next two bosses weren’t as bad, the second one might even be fun with a few tweaks, and the fourth (which I just beat last night) was actually pretty good. I hope it continues like this, and doesn’t go back to the atrocious start.
As much as I absolutely love Lies of P, I've been holding off since I've been hearing about a lot of bugs. Sounds like I maybe need to wait for another patch, unless the patch they released a week or two ago is the only one.
Performance felt a bit choppy at times (need to activate an FPS overlay again to check for drops), but otherwise no bugs as far as I could tell. It’s just that I think the first boss is terribly designed, and I don’t know if stuff like that would get fixed in a patch.
I am currently addicted to stardew, I am playing with my friend. She doesn’t own the game but thanks to steam family share, she can play with me through someone elses copy.
She does want her own copy and I am commenting for her because she doesn’t use Lemmy.
