That SteamOS compatible icon came to my Bazzite mini PC just before I brought it along with me for Combo Breaker. I suppose that leads into what I’ve been playing.
I competed in Guilty Gear Strive (0-2, sadly), Street Fighter 6 (2-2, which is better than I should have done given how little I practiced), and Skullgirls (a hard fought 3-2). Unless Street Fighter 6 gets a killer patch in the next few days with Elena’s release, I think this is where I depart the Street Fighter train.
I also played some Devil May Cry 4 on the plane, and I’ll likely do so again on the way back. I would have continued my save of Tales from the Borderlands, but I found out just before leaving that it doesn’t have cloud saves. I’ll continue with that and Kingdom Come: Deliverance back at my desktop at home.
My usual games: Tetris Effect, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 (openRCT2), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
But also a few other games: Selfloss, Trans Neurotica and GTA V.
Allthough my Steam Deck will be out of service for a few days, I found a “spicy pillow” in my deck, have to wait for a replacement battery to show up :(
At least you knew the right thing to do, remove and replace that battery ASAP! Hope the replacement arrives quickly for you, now you know its getting done at least you can rest easy for awhile :)
Talos Principle 2. I bought it 5 months ago but only recently I’ve been able to actually play it.
The first game was a near 10/10 experience for me, so I came in with very high expectations, and… At the moment, I’m a bit disappointed.
The main drawback is how pointlessly big everything is. You spend minutes running from puzzle to puzzle, especially if you want to 100% the game, which requires a lot of wandering around to find hidden switches and light rods to solve the Sphynx’s puzzles.
The environment is gorgeous, mind you, but it’s just… too much. Which is funny, because an NPC I talked to yesterday lamented the exact same thing: '“bigger doesn’t equal more beautiful”. I agree, Jeremy.
That being said, it’s still a fun game, and the story is interesting (although a lot more heavy-handed than the first game). There are also a lot of cats! And you can pet some of them! I also found a little fox running around. I couldn’t pet it, but it was cute regardless.
But seriously, this game is soothing for the soul. There’s just something in strolling around taking in the view with a beautiful soundtrack in the background that is just soooo relaxing. I use it as a way to cool my head after a day’s work before going to bed.
Jak and Daxter 2 via opengoal on Steam Deck. Such a clunky game, but it runs beautifully (except I had to stop right now because it crashed in the middle of the mission, but that’s one crash in several hours). This game feels like a sequence of levels that are just hard enough to be infuriating, but without feeling impossible. And the characters make it more interesting and easier to keep trying the same mission 20 times in a row.
Obviously it depends on what games you want to play.
The one point I will mention in the Switch's favor is that I feel like it's a much better handheld. It's a lot lighter and I like the feel of the JoyCons better (or I did until mine went bad, we'll see how durable S2 JoyCons are). Still, both are ultimately too bulky for me to take on the go, instead I bought a Miyoo Mini Plus on sale and that's become my portable while the Deck gathers dust and the Switch no longer leaves the dock.
If you want to stay in the Nintendo eco system (or at least have no issue with that), the Switch 2 would be the better choice - better hardware, more options with the mouse feature and placing on a TV or display, etc.
If you want to be more flexible, like tempering around with a bit of config stuff and game / graphics settings, controller layout, etc. then I suggest the Steam Deck. I can honestly say that it’s a lot of fun. Non-Steam games are sometimes tedious to install and configure Proton with the right version of proton etc, bit you don’t have to do any of that, it’s just options that come with the device.
It’s gotta be from Final Fantasy, hard to choose just one when you got: Suteki da Ne, real Emotions, Eyes on Me, Sen no Kotoba, Otherworld, One Winged Angel, etc… there’s a reason why I love Theatrhythm. But if I had to it will probably be Melodies of Life.
Actually, I change my mind, this is the catchiest video game song.
I love my Legion Go. Solid screen. detachable joycons. Standard Win11. It plays things like Satisfactory and RDR2 real well. Ok batt life. Meh speakers. use bluetooth.
The entire soundtrack of Chrono Trigger, but Schala’s Theme is my absolute favorite. 30 years later, and i *still" let it play out in it’s entirety the first timer it plays in Zeal.
I like the look of the white custom title cards but whenever I get to a game that doesn’t have one it ruins the theme and I end up changing them back…
Also if Old School Rally does come to GOG I would buy it in a heartbeat. Colin McRae Rally (and 2.0) are some of my all time favorites and I still play them regularly.
Ohhhh maybe that is why I found a user elsewhere offering to pay for people to design some game covers for specific titles with the similar white font idea?!
(and me too, I played Colin McRae with my papa a lot and I just love it, you can make it look amazing with emulators these days!!!)
Iwatodai Dorm from Persona 3 Reload was the most recent one that really got stuck in my head, but it happens a lot for me. It’s not always video game music, but probably is a majority of the time.
