If you hated Nier Automata then perhaps Drakengard 3 would be more up your alley?

It’s still emotional by the end but that game has more humor and is more whimsical/strange - especially during route A. The initial humor can be a hit or miss but I think it’s used nicely to contrast with later parts of the story.

Unfortunately it’s a PS3 exclusive and considering how the game runs on that system the best way to play it is emulation.

mam kilka ciekawych zakładek:

Bastion has a good story and great OST. There’s a pretty heavy moment toward the end of the game.

🎵I’m coming home, sweet home🎵

Transistor too, from the same studio.

Yokozuna, do games w What are the best Samurai period games?

Onimusha!

technomad,

Hell yeah, Onimusha was (still is?) badass! I haven’t played since the ps2 days

Yokozuna,

Yea, it’s a real banger. For the uninitiated, it’s set in Feudal Japan that plays like Resident Evil but with Demons instead of zombies. And they have one of the 3 titles on steam for a relatively fair price if you don’t have access to a ps2 and a physical copy.

A lot of people are posting games that are short and linear. But to match your energy, games that cannot be replayed unless you forget what you learn;

  • Case of the Golden Idol is a mystery/deduction game, a la Obra Dinn.
  • Toki Tori 2 is a puzzle metroidvania, where you can do your full moveset from the start - tweet and stomp. Right from the first screen, big chunks of the map can be shortcut through once you put your later learnings into practice.

My recommendation would be God of War (2018). Haven’t played Ragnarok yet, so I can’t talk about that one. You really attach to the characters. Their personalities are well defined, and it presents some father/mother/son dilemmas along the journey. Great OST, too.

I know it’s not known as “emotional,” but it’s the only game I recall that made me cry a little at the end,

I don’t think playing previous GoW games is mandatory. A quick recap is enough.

I know it has a bit of an intense fan base, but Undertale would definitely fit here.

Played it already 8 years ago, but I agree it was great!

StoneyDcrew, do games w Looking for emotional game recommendations

I’d recommend “in stars and time”. It is a turn-based RPG with loveable characters. I think it is best played blind so I’m hesitant to tell you more, but if you like games like undertale then I think you would like it.

seliaste,
@seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It was already at the top of my wishlist before posting this, waiting for the steam sales to get it!

THAT WAS IT!!! it was WONDERFUL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! if anyone reads this and recognizes themselves in the games i enjoyed, I would tell them to play this first if they haven’t!

StoneyDcrew,

Haha. Glad you enjoyed it. Really great game that I think deserves more attention.

Omori. Finished the game in 15 hours across 3 days. Bawled my eyes out for the next few weeks. 15/10 would recommend.

Gestrid,

Now play the other route.

Also, if you’re interested, there’s an official Omori orchestral concert on YouTube.

RobotZap10000,

I dunno buddy, the achievement said that I got the good ending. I found it sad enough already, but I have no regrets regarding this game.

Gestrid,

Yeah, it’s an amazing game. And, yeah, you most likely got the good ending. The other route has more lore and a lot of post game content, assuming you’re playing the Switch version. (The Steam version still has post game content, but they added more in the Switch version.)

TwilightVulpine,

I wish they would add the new content to PC too.

I feel like the yakuza series is fucking fantastic, but not that replayable. Usually it’s because I seek out all the substories and stuff on my first run, so it takes fucking ages to finish, but I’ve never got the urge to play it again after I’ve completed the stories.

msage,

But I want to replay 0 so much… I’ve played through 4 but the story just doesn’t hit as much.

hades, do games w Looking for emotional game recommendations

I’m surprised no one mentioned it. Hellblade (full title: Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice) had me in literal tears. Not only it’s a decent game, it’s also an essay on heavy topics like mental health and the story of viking invasions.

seliaste,
@seliaste@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I playes it through already, would recomment to anyone else reading this thread!

Rage and anger are emotions so I’d suggest League of Legends

Penumbra Overture, never finished it but was fun exploring and figuring out stuff.

HATEFISH,

Black plague is even better, best Frictional game to date imo.

Morefan,

I’ll wait for a sale but looks cool.

ajoebyanyothername, do games w Looking for emotional game recommendations

Several games I’d have recommended have already been said, so I’ll chuck in a nod for Thomas Was Alone, incredibly moving despite the only ‘characters’ being a range of shapes.

Cocodapuf,

Absolutely! You are going to feel some very big feelings about these little squares and rectangles.
