Online PvP has always been toxic, but modern game communities have definitely cultivated a special kind of toxic.

I prefer modern toxic over 2008-era XBL lobbies though.

Maybe that’s just me. But I get a lot less annoyed by a “GG ez” than I do by an 8-year-old shouting seven consecutive minutes of racial slurs into his mic at the top of his lungs.

grillgamesh,

I get a lot less annoyed at the opposite, I sorta like hearing all that, its really funny to see, as its both super stupid, and also a telltale sign that theyre actually mad. I usually have a good laugh at/with the guys who do it.

“gg ez” only means they are either trolling, or just plain thought it was a nice easy game. no fun laughs or anything, just boring “oh I’m so good zomg” stuff. I get annoyed not due to the “they thought it was easy” but just because its such low effort that you couldn’t spend more than half a second typing a message to talk to the other team. put some more effort into communication for crying out loud. its not hard, you literally just have to talk.

I’m back on my first playthrough of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided after a two-month break for Blue Prince, Clair Obscur and F.E.A.R… It’s a great game, but I think I did it a disservice by taking the long break, I can feel I’m so much less invested now than I was when I began playing it.

It’s very unfortunate that the series ended on a cliffhanger, what they have here is really good and in many ways an upgrade on Human Revolution. A third game from the studio would have been a true masterpiece, I think.

moncharleskey, do gaming w Don't hate the player

Man, there better be a ton more content than the original to command that price. The first was a decent game, but it felt pretty boring to me, and it’s wild that they could use a whole solar system as the setting and it feel so small.

Every Halloween, I play this Xbox 360 (I think it’s also on PC now) game called Bullet Witch.

Basically a third-person shooter with postapocalyptic supernatural horror theme. You play as a witch who shoots zombies and weird creatures with a magic machine gun broom thing. Also you get spells. Some are bloody awesome.

This game is peak Xbox 360 to the core. The distinct memorable thing about it is that I can actually list good and bad things about it. Level design varies between meh and decent. Some of the particular setpieces are pretty awesome though. (You get to fight at an airport, and you get to do a boss fight at the top of the plane mid-flight!) Spells are fun. The mega-spells are hella fun. (Just call up lightning and watch stuff explode.) Shooting is kinda jank but it works. Jank is explained by lore. (Why is friendly fire not a thing? Well, you see, this is a magic machine gun broom thing, so bullets dodge the civilians and allies by magic.) Enemy designs are nothing to write home about at first glance, but are actually kinda memorable. (You first meet up the zombies and hey, they’re talking zombies. With military helmets and guns. Like, what? You don’t see this every day.) There are some things that seem just not very well designed, like there’s these gigantic enemies that serve as minibosses and they’re a lot less scary when you note the AI is probably bugged and they often just decide to stand at place for a while and eat a lot of bullets.

I got this thing in the bargain bin. It’s a zombie shooty game that’s perfect for Halloween so that’s what I use it for. That’s all it does. That’s all I could ask it for. And it’s fine at it.

SlothMama,

I love Bullet Witch and I’m still looking for a physical copy of this and Ninja Blade on Xbox 360.

Deus Ex: Invisible War, and Dragon Age 2.

I liked them both. Not as good as Deus Ex 1 or DA:O, but I enjoyed and finished playthroughs of both games.

krinks73,

I enjoyed Dragon Age 2 as well. It’s just that it’s an action movie to Origins’ House of the Dragon. It’s just different genres.

I am just about done with The Last of Us 1 and just picked up Expedition 33, both are amazing (even if I’m bad at parrying)

Also on playdate I’m playing bwirds, it’s a fun spelling game! Polished and has nice short play sessions

I can’t think of any that I wasn’t fully aware of the criticism.

But I did play No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout 76 for hundreds of hours each right at launch and enjoyed every moment without significant issues, despite being fully aware of all the hate being thrown at them at the time.

Enter the Matrix, I loved the slowmo effects and the fights, the first hallway scene felt like it was straight from the movie. Using the computer terminal to unlock stuff felt magical. Only later I learned that Path of Neo was supposed to be a better Matrix game while Enter the Matrix was universally panned. And I’ve played it too, but didn’t get as much enjoyment out of it, it just didn’t have as much soul

obrenden,

Enter the Matrix was dope. Fuck the haters.

Sylvartas,

I loved enter the matrix. It was lowkey more fun with the cheats though

Team Fortress 2:

I’d say its gameplay is more “robust” than special. Like you can have any and every kind of fight in TF2 but none of it is more special than an FPS that specializes in any game mode.

I have lost so many Baldur’s Gate 3 Honour Mode runs because I’ve accidentally blown up the Zentarim hideout.

Did you know that having a torch equipped as your melee weapon means you’re considered to be carrying an open flame even when you’ve switched to have your ranged weapon out? I just found that out yesterday. Always learning new and exciting ways to explode.

Ultima IX. I somehow never played the earlier installments despite being of the right age to have, and enjoyed the hell out of IX. In retrospect, the massive amounts of criticism were earned, I just came into it fresh and was enthralled by the world.

Started my first playthrough of Sekiro and it’s really hard. I’m slowly embracing the playstyle, but I have so many habits to break from the other Souls games. I like it, but I don’t think I’ll be up for NG+ if I ever finish the NG run.

Also started playing Sable and I really like it so far. It kind of feels like an open world Zelda type of game without combat. It’s quite relaxing, and the art style is absolutely beautiful.

jjjalljs,

Sekiro is one of my favorites. I like that it’s not really about leveling, and it pretty much gets right into it. I could pick it up today and blast through a new game.

Do you know how to do the lightning reversal? There are a handful of bosses that it really counters.

Do you know how to do the lightning reversal?

I think so in theory. I acquired it, but haven’t found anyone using lightning yet. LB to parry/absorb, RB to unleash it?

Have not made it past Genichiro phase 1 yet so I went elsewhere looking for powerups. I beat Juzou first try, but the long arm centipede man took hours, a lot like every other boss and mini boss lol.

chloyster,

I had a similar experience and didn’t think I would do ng+ but still pretty much immediately started it and did another playthrough lol

Ha! I heard of this one, but haven’t been able to try it yet. As a huge fan of old school RE games, it piqued my interest. Thank you for reminding me of it. I shall pick it up as soon as I have some free time.

I’ll also mention another, even lesser known title: Kabus 22. It’s an old Turkish videogame that’s clearly inspired by classic RE titles. Not very good, but I have a soft spot for games that were developed with more love than knowledge on game design. Also the developer is a really nice dude who re-released the game for free as a thank you to the fans who reached out to him, and that’s such a sick move that I can’t help but have a lot of respect for him.

There’s a good retrospective in YT about the game here, if anyone’s curious.

Primarily Titan Fall 2. Been wanting to try it for a bit now and it really exceeds my expectations. Love the movement, shooting, and feel of everything. Only thing I really don't enjoy is the titan sections but outside of that it kind of rules.
