Kolanaki, do games w Suggestions for a top down game that is genuinely different to all the others?
@Kolanaki@pawb.social avatar

I forgot the name of it (Ex Machina? 🤔), but there is a top down diablo-like game with somewhat QWOPish controls and physics based combat. You control movement normally (assuming you’re standing), but you have to actually swing your sword around with the mouse and because it’s a top down view, this becomes a real challenge. It’s also presented as a soul like, so the AI is generally actually good at combat, and it’s also slow, and heavy feeling.

I don’t think it ever got finished, though. It was semi-popular for about a week before I never really saw it anymore.

Civ 5 and FTL would be my top suggestions. I think anything turn based is likely to be playable with just a mouse

I got burnt out after treating WoW like a full time job for multiple years, while having a full time job. Ever since my PC is connected to the TV. Sitting at a desk isn’t relaxing. So PC or console, it’s from the comfort of my recliner with a controller.

I recently bought 2 of these for my partner and I. Worth every penny if you’re going to lay in bed or sit somewhere with it.

Any turn based isometric. Pillars of eternity 1 & 2. Shadowrun returns/dragonfall/Hong Kong.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous too.

Walican132, do gaming w [DCSS] I did it! I touched the Orb...

Insane congrats. I love DCsS and haven’t touched it in a few months. Didn’t know they reworked Mahleb, maybe you’ve given me some encouragement to play.

I haven’t won in a while.

enemyofsun,

DCSS got quite a few beefy updates recently, with reworks for Makhleb, Dithmenos, Yredelemnul and Beogh, many new spells (and a new spell school in trunk), reflavouring of Poison magic into Alchemy that allowed adding some more late game spells (e.g. Yara’s is hexes/alchemy now), return of mountain dwarves and a new species that can dual wield weapons, transmutation magic school being changed into talismans…

I love the new changes and, for the first time in my DCSS obsession, I started playing trunk :D

Walican132,

Damn. Yeah that sounds good. Thanks for the heads up.

I take a lot of breaks. Just a few minutes doing something else.

Steam deck is good! And if your Internet is good, any device that can do moonlight streaming.

I have my steam deck plugged into my TV in my living room. I’m all hardwired and can use moonlight to stream my PC to my steam deck with no noticeable latency. I’m usually very picky about input lag / latency and I legitimately cannot notice it. Moonlight/sunlight is wayyyy better than steam remote play imo. And for indie games that the steam deck can run well, I can play natively from that. I hardly ever play at my desk anymore

I don’t have a desk job. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also always end up taking a break in the suggested (or rather, the suggested manner back when video games straight up had warnings about playing too long in the manual/splash screens when starting them) when I am playing. Just stand up, walk to the kitchen/bathroom/whatever and look at something other than a screen for like 5-10 minutes every 45-minutes to an hour.

You should be able to do that at work, too. Just stand up, stretch, look at the ceiling/floor. You don’t even have to leave your cubicle/office.

You did say “just right hand,” there was a thread before asking for one-handed games in general

I play on console mostly these days.

Quexotic,

This has been my go to anymore, especially now that I can afford it.

Walican132,

It’s like the circle of life. Children start with console, move on to PC, return to console. Then LAN parties in the nursing home. I’ll touch back if I can ever afford to retire and let yall know.

Quexotic,

Dude, seriously! I totally expect to die before I can retire. Healthcare costs alone will prevent my being able to retire.

If you don’t mind something older, both Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic games can be played only with mouse. It’s bit clunkier than also using a keyboard, but doable. I used to play them like that while smoking many years ago.
