It’s been my experience that dedicated places for fans of certain games or franchises to congregate always devolve into a never-ending cycle of “Everything is wrong and this game is terrible. I have 3000 hours in it.”.
No one hates a game like the most dedicated fans do. For instance, I put a significant amount of time into the Forza franchise over the years. The Forza community (both the subreddit and the official Forza forums) might be one of the worst I’ve ever experienced. No one is ever happy with or about anything.
Basically, if you really like something, avoid the fan communities at all costs. You’ll end up finding out about things that are supposedly “game ruining” that you never even knew or cared about and then you won’t be able to un-see it.
Alien: isolation? Pretty good horror game, imo. SOMA? Subnautica can be pretty scary,. especially for people with thalassophobia or however it’s spelled… Outer wilds? Not horror, but it is quite unsettling. Also an all around amazing game that everyone should experience, imo.
Streamers will not give you good user feedback. They are not playing the game for themselves, they are playing for an audience.
It is very good that you think about validating your expections early in the process. That way you still have time to change the direction of your game if you need to. I think the best way would be to release the demo to a smaller audience, like itch.io.
Cannot wait to buy another Ubislop-like that costs $80, takes 70+ hours to complete the mainstory and plays exactly the same as the last 20 iterations over the past decade
I cannot wait for all the AAA developers to whine, cry, and complain about how everyone is saying Silksong is so good and that AAA can’t compete with their own games.
I think it’s great they’re charging such a reasonable price, but I hope people don’t hold other smaller devs to this standard and compare them one to one. It’s a lot easier to charge $20 when you’re about to sell a bajillion copies of something. A solo dev making something way smaller might charge $20, too, but they may only sell a few dozen copies.
In other words, celebrate the pro consumer decision but please don’t use it as a cudgel against other indies in the future.
Binged the game in a month about two years ago, I did everything, including the flyiig bean and the triple bird, great game, unique experience, I love it and I fucking hate it at the same time lol
The game is ruthless and not for the faint of heart, I think you may need to be a certain degree of masochist or something to do everything in it, I also remember needing the performance mod for the later stages of the game.
I’ve been waiting a few years to forget more about it so I can replay it again as blind as possible.

Oh lord this looks incredible. What’s the age rating/target audience for this? I’m a teacher who works to try and bring quality and engaging games into the classroom, and at a glance it feels like a perfect junior high entry into gaming.
Yeah, I can be pretty frugal with game purchases and will often wait for sales, but this one I didn't even have to think about. They're going to sell a bazillion copies at this price.
