Syphon Filter Dark Mirror and *Logan’s Shadow… …*if you don’t mind unfulfilled endings and enjoy the gameplay

God Eater

Ghost in the Shell: The standalone Complex (play with vita or emulation for dual stick controls)

Coded Arms (play on vita or emulation to have dual controls)

Super Stardust Portable

Pursuit Force and it’s sequel Extreme Justice

Elkenders,

I have a vita and I’m intrigued about the dual controls. Remapping to the second analogue stick?

DoucheBagMcSwag, (edited )

Yes exactly. You need the app adrenaline though…and of course to hack it. With the Vita being EOL, there’s no legal downside or moral area

Elkenders,

I have a retroid pocket 3+ which I prefer for PSP emulation but I do have Adrenaline on my Vita.

Work Time Fun is a sort of strung-out Wario Ware that I really enjoyed back in the day. If you like minigames, trinkets, and grinding, then check it out.

Ketram, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

If you like ARPGs, I remember enjoying Untold Legends a lot as a kid. Was a PSP launch title, and had a very dark themeing. I don’t know if my kid memory can be trusted on the quality but I’ve seen a few other people recommend it on here so I doubt it’s bad.

gamermanh, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

Weird that nobody mentioned the GTA games on PSP

Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories are absolutely awesome GTA games somehow squeezed onto the PSP

sleepybisexual,

Downloaded vice stories, is there an order to play them

NecroMemories,

they’re just prequels really, I can’t remember anything groundbreaking. It’d /maybe/ be better to play 3 and vice city first, but it’s mostly just callbacks. Liberty city stories protag is just a quest giver. Neither super spoils the other but I might be wrong.

sleepybisexual,

K

NecroMemories,

They have a crisp cubish feel which was fun, I remember playing around with mods

I have heard similar complaints about performance from my friends, and I have solved most of them by simply suggesting they check their fans. Not just case fans, but the GPU/CPU, too. Check that they’re actually spinning and getting adequate airflow. Unplug and then vacuum them. You’d be surprised how much of a difference that can make.

  • Mana Khemia: Student Alliance (really one of my highest recommendations, not just even on PSP. The best “magic school” game out there, imho)
  • Metal Gear AC!D
  • Patapon
  • Pixel Junk: Monsters
  • Neverland Card Battles
  • Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • Aegis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos
  • PoPoLoCrois
  • Dynasty Warriors 2
  • Lunar: Silver Star Story

Honestly, I could do an entire separate comment of just RPGs, there were SO many good ones for PSP.

sleepybisexual,

Do it, RPGs are fun

t3rmit3, (edited )

If you want a game that runs poorly then check out Squad

Something definitely seems off about the 2070 if it is struggling at 1080p so don’t give up yet. You might still get to play if you diagnose what’s wrong.

NecroMemories, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

Mercury was a before release review game, which for mobile graphics was pretty mind blowing for me at the time of release.

If you want to rant about GPU prices, why randomly call out one/two specific games? Not like it doesn’t apply to any other modern release. I don’t get this post

Also I looked up some benchmarks and you can get 60FPS on medium with an RX 6600 (about 200 USD curently in the US) in both finals & helldivers. Could possibly get away with a cheaper card on Low settings

ViscloReader,

It’s a rant, kinda like a “offmychest” post if you want. And I’m “calling out” these games because they where really fun imo, and I am a bit sad knowing there is a very low chance I’ll get to experience them at peak player count.

MrScottyTay, do games w Can we talk about FF7 - Rebirth?

After playing the game more, it feels like the side content is better paced after the first section. So far the first area “Grasslands” is the only one to fully open up to you immediately with the next story quest being “get out of here”.

The rest have story quests that break up the potential monotony. I was about to burn out on the side content on the third area. But pushed through cause I was enjoying the game as a whole anyway and all of a sudden I had done everything I could do in the area at this point pretty quickly (because I couldn’t get fully explore it all before continuing the story) and I ended up enjoying it this time too which I hadn’t expected. I just got to this area and immediately thought “ugh more of the same” but it wasn’t completely the case.

The type of terrain and level design of these big areas are a big factor in the content in them feeling varied I feel, and they do change a lot. The actual side quests get better too, some resulting in you doing a few optional linear dungeons which is nice.

The big enemies you unlock to fight like mini bosses are really fun too, so if you like the combat, getting them unlocked might just end up being worth it to you too.

Are action RPGs okay? If so, Ys: Oath in Felghana. It’s a remake of Ys III, which is also available on other platforms. However! The PSP version has features that other platforms do not, the main two being voice acting (other ports just have beeps when text is displayed) and a whole new mechanic, which is reminiscent of Final Fantasy’s Limit Breaks.

One potential caveat, though: this is probably the hardest entry in the series. Fights are hard, but never cheap. If you’re okay with that, you should have a good time.

sleepybisexual,

Sounds fun :3

  • Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max are in top shape on the PSP with extra characters and decent single player content.
  • Rock Band Unplugged is a stealth sequel to Frequency and Amplitude, worth a try for juggling a whole band's worth of instruments.
  • I also had a lot of fun with Half-Minute Hero, Lumines, Everybody's Golf Portable 2/Hot Shots Golf Open Tee 2, and the racing games DdCno1 mentioned.
  • And that's not even getting into the excellent options for emulated games, both retail and homebrew.
  • RetroAcheivements PSP games sorted by number of players is a good way to see the most popular games.
sleepybisexual,

I’m asking so I can get ROMs of them.

Wouldn’t tekken need some fancy 6 button controller?

hitstun,
@hitstun@fedia.io avatar

Tekken? Nah. It's a four button game, and you only need to map the shoulder buttons if your character has a good move with a weird button combination like Square+Circle. Street Fighter Alpha 3 really needs all 6 buttons, though.

You might want to search for a RetroAchievements collection of PlayStation Portable games.

sleepybisexual,

K, I’ll get tekken, cos my handheld js a 4 button

Go play Xonotic for awhile and you can bathe in buttery smoothness no matter the computer you are playing on. The computer could be your shoe in fact or the back of your hand, it will run at 60fps either way.

Yes you could feel sad it doesn’t have a larger player base and isn’t the new competitive shooter everyone is obsessed with but it is also true that Xonotic is like pure unfiltered reaction and adrenaline compared to almost any other shooter especially modern ones. If you want to feel that smoothness of motion Xonotic can give it to you in spades in the way only a quake derivative multiplayer fps can.

Every PSP I own must have the following games ready to go at any time:
-Lumines
-Rock Band Unplugged
-Patapon 2
-WipEout Pulse
-Final Fantasy: Crystal Defenders (gorgeous small tower defense game, but with enough strategy behind it for hours of play)

sleepybisexual,

What are the others? What’s lumines?

DarthYoshiBoy,

It's a pretty great game. Really good music and one of those gameplay loops that is easy to pick up and difficult to master. If you like Tetris and the like, Lumines is worth your attention.

Megaman_EXE,

I’m not one for tetris like puzzle games, but I eventually got sucked in and spent 60 hours with the game. It’s really good!

tal,

It’s really about the music.
