MrGerrit, do gaming w Let's discuss: The Sims

I played a bit of the original and sims 2. It’s interesting but really my thing.

My daughter on the other hand loves playing sims 4. As soon a dlc goes on sale, she buys it. So many dlc’s… It’s nuts.

Micromot,

I recently helped another person I know, who is like your daughter, pirate the game with all dlc so they don’t spend even more on the game than they already have.

The prices on the DLC are crazy when added up

DdCno1,

Repacks make installing the game with its bazillion DLCs a breeze these days.

Micromot,

They definitely do, it was only 40 GB instead of the 70 GB when unpacked

CaptainBasculin, do gaming w Let's discuss: Half-Life

Back when internet cafes were popular; this game right here was the cool shooter game being played.

A cafe near me would host monthly tournaments and would pay 3 times the hourly cost to the top three with nuke button banned. We weren’t really skilled in the game compared to the pro players; but we had our own weapons we were good at. I was good with SMG grenades and electric gun but never managed to hit top three; but all the matches were good times anyways.

There was a really good player that used arrow keys to look around instead of a mouse, and was insanely good with the railgun. Would somehow always end up at either first or second place. Wonder what’s he up to nowadays.

its_me_xiphos, do gaming w Let's discuss: Mass Effect

So many story telling memories. ME is still a treasure to me despite its challenges and missteps. ME2 is among my favorite game of all time, right behind Dragon Age: Origins.

But ME3 has a scene that was so well executed that I don’t think anything has ever topped it, for me, in video gaming storytelling. From his decision to rectify what he now believes is a past wrong, do it alone, to his final remark about seashells.

It, to me, is extremely emotional and in the best way that a good story can be.

LittleTarsier, do gaming w Let's discuss: Mass Effect

I had never played any Mass Effect games before playing Outer Worlds. I loved the companion aspect of that game, but it was a pretty short, small game. So when I played Mass Effect, I was blown away. I don’t have the same complaints people had for Mass Effect 3, because my experience was with the legendary edition. Yeah, the 2000 Space Odyssey ending was weird but it didn’t ruin the whole trilogy. I’m now playing Andromeda and sadly not enjoying the companions as much. Hopefully that changes as I progress through the game.

Turmbaumeister, do gaming w Let's discuss: Mass Effect

Mass effect 2 is one of the few 10/10 games ever for me. Playing vanguard there was just so fun in every way. The first game has some weird mechanics and the third is ruined, it was a single player game that required online play to unlock all endings (the readiness system), day one DLC. Terrible story too, after all the build up

Truly once a company creates an mmo it becomes a cancer that spreads and is forced everywhere.

chloyster, do gaming w Let's discuss: Resident Evil

I adore resident evil. Most mainline games in the series hold a special place in my heart, from the originals through all the remakes.

However none hold a more special place to me than re4. I’m obviously not alone in adoring this game but dang, it’s really just so fucking good. Every friend I’ve been able to convince to play in the present day has been shocked at how well it holds up today. Sure the controls are kinda weird (they truly are just the tank controls of the OG’s but from an over the shoulder perspective), but it honestly works for the game. With the Re4hd mod that was in the works for many years finally out, the game looks great today too.

Re4 was my favorite game of all time, and while I was excited for the remake, I didn’t really think the game had any shot at dethroning the original. But god damn it did. Somehow the remake surpassed my sky high expectations. It’s just really damn good. It somehow brings a 2 decade old game that aged majestically into the modern era even better. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the original and I still plan on playing it, but the remake is just superb. I couldn’t be more happy that I get two ridiculously amazing versions of my all time favorite.

So yeah. Play re4. Game slaps. Also the other games are amazing. Except 6, i know some enjoy it, but it’s one of my personal most disliked games

Rem4 has the energy of a movie that was made because James Cameron walked into Capcom main offices, met with the presidents, stood in front of a whiteboard and wrote “Resident Evil$” making sure the s was notably a big red dollar sign $. Everyone applauded and then they made whatever the hell they wanted.

and I love that about it.

(Note: this is basically how we got the move Aliens 1986)

Kwakigra, do gaming w Let's discuss: Polybius
@Kwakigra@beehaw.org avatar

I have so many memories with this game but I had to quit because of the notorious headaches. There were plenty of flashing lights in arcade games in those days but the way they flashed in Polybius was part of the challenge. I guess having to focus on the lights to play the game caused the headaches but I don’t know. It was always the busiest cabinet at my arcade so at least I saved myself a lot of time. It wasn’t around for long but I can’t really remember much about my life other than this game from back then so I couldn’t say even how old I was when it was out. The friends I would take turns with back then don’t even know what I’m talking about when I bring this game up. It was a long time ago I guess.

siipale, do gaming w Let's discuss: Polybius

We didn’t really have arcade in our town but there were some coin-operated games around. I think it wasn’t very long period of time they had Polybius but I remember playing it occasionally during that time. I was quite young so I didn’t fully understand the gameplay and can’t really recall any elements of it anymore. Only thing I do remember is I used to have vivid dreams about it when I hadn’t played it for a while. That sort of made me interested to play it again every once in a while. Though I must have been terrible at that game so I don’t know why I even tried it that many times.

I didn’t really thought about it when they had changed the machine to different one. I would rather play the Street Fighter II or whatever they had put there instead because it was much easier game to understand. There have been occasional dreams I’ve had much later in my life about this game but other than that I don’t really think about it. Sometimes after having that kind of vivid dream I do think for a while that it would be nice to give it a try again but I don’t know if they have the game anywhere or if it’s possible to emulate via MAME.

Flamangoman, do gaming w Let's discuss: Tetris

This is a fantastic documentary on Tetris by Gaming Historian. Fascinating history about its development in the Soviet Union and how it came to be a launch title for Nintendo.

Berttheduck, do gaming w Let's discuss: Telltale Games

I adore the walking dead games, they totally spoiled the TV show for me as the characters were soo much better. Lee and Clem at the end of the first game was such an emotional gut punch, one of the few times a game made me cry.

TwilightVulpine,

Lee and Clem had such a great story, nothing else I played in the series even came close. I'd even go so far to say that it wins over most other kid/dad duos in games.

UKFilmNerd, do gaming w Let's discuss: LEGO Games
@UKFilmNerd@feddit.uk avatar

I’ve really enjoyed many of the IP based games over the years, Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones and even Lego GTA. Oh sorry, Lego City: Undercover.

The one that really disappointed me was Lego: Worlds. I thought it would be fun to build with unlimited bricks virtually but it’s just not for me.

I like to have physical bricks in front of me which give me ideas as I build. Finding different bricks in the pile gives me new ideas as I build. That’s not something than happens with the game.

On the flip side, playing with the 80s Space sets was a huge nostalgia kick for me.

Thrickles, do gaming w Let's discuss: DOOM

Doom 1 was my first real PC game and will always be special, as will Doom 2.

I adore zdoom and the modding community.

Doom 2016 is hands down my favorite after multiple playthroughs. It just feels incredibly satisfying to play.

Never finished Doom Eternal. The changes to combat are too frustrating to me.

FYI: c/metroidvanias

Love both, and very excited for their next game, No Rest for the Wicked - which I don’t know if it’s been said explicitly, but is rumored to also be a Metroidvania.

I know it might be a little cliché, but I would still rank Hollow Knight as my #1 Metroidvania, but these two are my and , even after loving the new Prince of Persia. The level of polish is incredible and Wisps just cranked it up even more.

I enjoyed the video the IGN posted about them yesterday.
