NutinButNet, do games w Nintendo warns Switch 2 GameChat users: “Your chat is recorded”

We should assume that our chats/calls are being recorded on services like this. But why exactly is this done? Seems like it leaves a lot of liability on their end and then added costs for the storage of all that data.

Are they required to or are they selling the data?

So they can review reports and ban people

NutinButNet,

That makes sense, thank you.

    en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Ariane

If your day is just starting, maybe you need a coffee. There’s a distinct difference between Aryan (or Aryen in French) and Ariane (or Ariane in French).

Different words in different languages sounding the same is a wild launch to a crusade in 2025. Wait until you hear about Ariana Grande… the most Grand of all the Aryans. I know the additional letters won’t fool you.

vzq, do esa w [Eric Berger] Europe has the worst imaginable idea to counter SpaceX’s launch dominance

On the one hand, it’s euro-ULA. On the other hand, I’m not sure there’s an obvious alternative.

    threelonmusketeers,

Why not invest in a bunch of the smaller companies like Rocket Factory Ausburg, PLD Space, MaiaSpace, HyImpulse, etc? They won’t all be successful, but if just a couple of them are, the competition would put Europe in a much stronger position than if they were to establish Euro-ULA.

    vzq,

I’m not sure we can afford an “either or” strategy.

We should be doing that, we should be doing euro-ULA, and we should be massively expanding (access to) launch infrastructure. There’s only so much you can do when your ranges are literally on the other side of the planet.

jqubed, do games w Of course Atari’s new handheld includes a trackball, spinner, and numpad
    @jqubed@lemmy.world avatar

Despite including a numpad like the Intellivision controller, the GameStation Go doesn’t currently include any games from Atari’s recently purchased Intellivision library. But [YouTube reviewer who was hands-on at CES] GenXGrownUp says including those titles—alongside Atari Lynx and Jaguar games—is not “off the table yet” for the final release.

I only know of the Atari Lynx from reading about the history of Chip’s Challenge but I’d be interested in seeing that.

count_dongulus, do games w Stalker 2 has been enjoyable jank, but it’s also getting rapidly fixed

I think the size may have more to do with the team not splitting up the Unreal build paks. Haven’t checked how well it’s actually split up, but I can say that changing even one small thing could result in a giant update if that build has like one pak file with all the things in it. There are ways to configure it in the build but it’s not a magic toggle either. Worked with a studio handing off UE builds before that didn’t build the game in a split friendly way and it made every upload to S3 take forever cause there were only like two really giant paks.

Also makes me wonder, does Steam not do diff patch style updates for changes within individual files? If not, that could save a ton of bandwidth.

The biggest issue with Analogue is they only make a small amount of these devices then they are gone.

meant2live218, do games w $500 aluminum version of the Analogue Pocket looks like the Game Boy’s final form

I have a Steam Deck and love it… But part of me really likes the idea of the Pocket (not necessarily the aluminum one). It’s rough, cuz I’ve never gotten into FPGA stuff before, and this run is going to be a one-time thing. I guess I’ll hold off until the regular plastic ones are available again?

    thorbot,

But why? Just play the games on your deck.

    meant2live218,

Specifically the form factor. I have a lot of nostalgia for the GBC and SP, and the smaller size means it’s much easier to carry and whip out while traveling. Currently, my Steam Deck is used for when I’m on a long (6+ hours) flight or when I’m staying somewhere for a weekend. I don’t feel great about bringing it out while taking a bus or train, and it’s a bit much to bring out while sitting at an airport gate for 45 minutes.

That being said, I would hate to split all my saves and progress between the two systems, so maybe I’ll just remain on the Deck.

    thorbot,

Interesting take, I think my Deck is a great size and it easily fits in my shoulder bag, I bring it everywhere. Don’t have a want for anything smaller honestly, it feels so good in my hands, anything smaller just gives me hand aches after a bit. But I can understand your perspective.

    meant2live218,

I’m a shorter dude (5’8"), so while I’m in love with my Steam Deck, it’s definitely a little much for me sometimes. Heavy to hold up, and I carry it in the OEM case. That being said, I’m a HUGE fan of the new case and basically only use the inner case, leaving the outer shell at home.

    thorbot,

What’s the new case? I just use the hard shell it came with.

    meant2live218,

When they came out with the OLED (and the special edition) instead of giving the regular shell, it was 2 shells. 1 thinner one that’s a bit thicker than the deck, and then the big one with a handle and the elastic covering a space to carry the charger. The small one actually velcros into the big case.

    thorbot,

That’s not how my 1TB LE OLED came. It just had the one big case

    meant2live218,

Oh, weird. I have the limited edition one, is that the difference maybe?

Check to see if your case seems extra big, and if the inner lining can be lifted and removed from the black case.

    thorbot,

In my previous comment I mentioned the OLED LE, that stands for the OLED Limited Edition you mentioned. And no, there’s no inner case I somehow missed. It’s just the one large one.

    meant2live218,

RIP my impulsivity and FOMO. Ordered a black one. Though I may have an out, since my credit card company flagged it as fraud and said they cancelled the transaction.
