slaacaa,

Very disappointing, with arguably misleading marketing and videos.

I was so hyped watching the reveal, then only realized from comments that this only plays Windows compatible Xbox games. I was hoping for a true Xbox handheld, where I can play all Xbox games natively.

If somebody is already deep into handhelds, this might be obvious to them, but I think many buyers will be disappointed when they realize this.

I saw a 10 min video of MS and ASUS team explaining the device, and they intentionally dance around the issue, diluting the original meaning of words like “Xbox”, which is a video game console. Not a PC, not a launcher in Windows, and not a meaningless branding for MS published games.

There is a reason Nintendo and Sony is killing it in their focus segments: they make a console and sell video games you can play on it. Sony might release PS games on PC for extra revenue, while MS is trying to do that as a main focus, because they didn’t sell enough consoles. MS really shit the bed with Xbox this gen (again). Gamepass is not going to save them, they were first to the market, but Sony is also selling subscription, but in addition (and not instead) of console sales.

slaacaa,

I understand their strategy, I just don’t like it as a console player. I also don’t think it is a very good one from business perspective. For me it seems like they failed in the console (hardware) market, so they pivoted to the cross-platform software focus.

I know like/dislike is subjective, so I understand if others have different opinion. And business-wise, these strategic decisions will show their true impact over many years, so there would be no point in comparing current numbers, let’s see if what they plan pays off in the future.

I have a PS5 and a Series S, so I’m not partial to either of them, just to consoles as a hardware platform. I don’t like this Windows-ification of Xbox, as I moved from PC gaming to consoles around 2 decades ago, and I like my choice. I also switched to iPhone from Android, and happy to have lost all the headaches that came from the more open platform.

Again, these are personal preferences. Maybe I’m the “old” man (gen Y) screaming angrily at the clouds, or maybe the Microsoft MBAs are wrong. Manufacturers are going back on large touchscreens in cars, which was also celebrated as the FUTURE^TM^ years ago, yet it’s just cost saving that sacrifices the safety of the driver.

slaacaa,

Such an amazing game. I’m not into RPGs but somehow got convinced to play this.

I don’t understand how I even had the energy to play 100+ hrs next to work. I often played until 2 am on weekdays, or woke up earlier to play.

I understand the complaints of the gameplay or controls, but the story and the characters are what makes this game special. It’s a journey I will never forget, some memories and feelings from it will stay with me forever

I finished my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. I absolutely love the setting for the game and hopefully they'll make a sequel. Cyberpunk is going to join the very small selection of games I immediately replay. I just need to figure out how to do mods on Bazzite first.

@games

slaacaa,

People who want to play a finished game, when paying full price? Yes, they do

slaacaa,

They also closed Monolith, a great studio behind e.g. FEAR amd Shadow of Mordor games. They are making all the wrong decisions, and then will wonder why they have lost to competitors.

slaacaa, (edited )

Loved the new games, though Youngblood was the weakest. I wish Arkane would have made more of them, instead of being forced to do that live service shit Redfall.

Edit: I mixed up the studios, the new WE games were developed by Machinegames, Arkane only helped with Youngblood.

slaacaa,

Throwing his heart out to Planet Earth, such a beautiful picture ❤️

slaacaa,

Ah, you’re right I mixed them up. Arkane only helped with Youngblood a bit. Yes, the Indiana Jones game was really good, I loved it

slaacaa,

Yeah, this should be standard practice

slaacaa, (edited )

It’s definitely a “you get what you deserve” situation, yet I can’t help but be sad, thinking that more than a decade ago, Ubisoft made some of my favorite games (e.g Splinter Cell series, Far Cry 3, AC Black Flag).

Though that Ubisoft is long gone by now, and I haven’t touched their games for years.

slaacaa,

Very happy for the success of this game, even if it’s not my style. It seems like a breath of fresh air among soulless cash grabs

slaacaa,

Yes, not every game needs to appeal to everyone - the problem is that big publishers are always aiming for the lowest common denominator, that’s why we end up with many bland and similar games

slaacaa,

Absolutely not. I don’t remember the last time I played a game without 60fps performance option on my PS5

slaacaa,

I think it will be 80 dollars, with bigger editions available, eg. including online mode. For me, the 30fps is the most annoying, I was never a performance fanatic, but I’m used to 60 now.

My sincerest apologies in advance to the moderators of /c/games if the below is not suitable for the community. This is extremely loosely related to gaming but concerns a significant player in the industry....

slaacaa,

You need to report this to your local data protection authority (or similar). They didn’t carry out your deletion request, so they would most likely be fined (at least that happens often in my country).

Day 130 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (pixelfed.social) angielski

Today’s game is Silent Hill 2 Remake. I’ve been wanting to play this for a long time ever since i heard it was getting a remake. I was a bit worried about how it would perform on my Steam Deck, but everything seems to be going well. I haven’t checked any average FPS but i have it capped at 30 and i am using FSR on balanced...

slaacaa,

UC4 still looks so amazing, unbelievable game

slaacaa, (edited )

Meh. They might have not wanted to make Ep3, but the fans sure did.

I understand Valve works or used to work very differently, people collaborating without a strong top-down steering from management. Yet whatever explanation they have, we were punched in the gut at the end of Ep2, then left waiting, holding our breath. It’s just a piece of media, but it was an important part of my teenage years, and I could never experience the end of the story (outside of reading it in a blog) I waited so much for.

This made me really resent Valve, and soured my experience/memories with the series, I haven’t touched HL or other Valve game for 10+ years, and I don’t think I will in the future.

slaacaa, (edited )

I work as project manager, just spent the entire week fighting a client on a new project’s scope, because he wanted more things done by the team than what was agreed in the proposal.

Anytime I read about this game, I have to do breathing excercises in a corner to calm my anxiety.

slaacaa,

You’re just jelous of my 5k kimited edition spaceship (will be ready next year)

slaacaa,

Nobody wants more content, most big titles are already bloated

slaacaa,

Just want to show of ray tracing. In return, it runs 30 fps (while the original runs 60 on PS5), with worse music and camera.

Absolutely pointless cash grab, they should have just created a graphics upgrade to polish out some texture details, add haptic feedback, and sell it as an add on for 10.

slaacaa,

Mostly it’s the lack of competition.

On one hand, regulators allowed big companies to become monopolies, so we don’t have a choice. Imagine if instagram and whatsapp were not part of facebook, how different social media would be? Or if bumble and hinge were competing with tinder, not just all being a part of match.com.

And on the other hand, we have examples like the console “war”, where Xbox messed up this generation so hard, that Sony now can do whatever they want.

PS5 Homescreen Now Replaces Unique Video Game Art With Annoying Ads You Can’t Turn Off (www.ign.com) angielski

Wow, this is awful. Some people reported that these ads are also very petty and not necessarily related to the game, like apparently Elden Ring shows an ad for a licensed mousepad when you hover over the game now…...

slaacaa, (edited )

They are doing this because a rotten corpse doesn’t force them to compete, they can do whatever they want. If MS didn’t shit the bed with the Series X/S, Sony would be trying harder to please customers, or at least not actively screwing them (see also: 800 EUR PS5 Pro without disc drive or vertical stand).

slaacaa,

For Europe it’s 800 EUR + disc drive + vertical stand, almost 1k in total. No thanks, Sony 🤡

Ubisoft’s free version of COD. I tried it as a friend was raving about it, tbh it’s a fine game if somebody likes this style. The character’s from the Ubi universe are just a gimmick, most play the same

slaacaa,

You are actually right. I tried this game as a friend liked it, and it basically does everything that COD does, but for free, so it’s not the worst way for somebody to spend their time online. Still, I imagine Ubi execs promised to dethrone every other shooter and have 100 million payers to milk for MTX.

They seem to be very caught off guard by Star Wars: Outlaws’ underperformance, and after investor pressure, are trying to massively course correct. This is what happens when you vote with your dollars!

slaacaa,

Seems like they watched the new Ghost of Yotei trailer

slaacaa,

Same, I couldn’t even finish watching a 10 min review, it was so boring. When I went to pick up Space Marines 2 in a big store, it was full of SW Outlaws discs. I picked up the last SM2, and Astro Bot was already sold out, so people were happy to buy games, just not this one.

slaacaa,

OMG, I was not expecting this. Amazing look and music, some new weapons from the looks of it, really looking forward to this

slaacaa, (edited )

I mean it is a diverse portfolio, but only on the very shallow surface level. Like COD or FIFA, AC games are the same every year / 2 years with a different skin.

I remember when it was actually different 10+ years ago, like when we got AC Unity, Black Flag close by, with some Far Cry 3 on the side. Their open worlds had similar elements, but it was still very different at the core.

Now it’s just repetitive and boring.

slaacaa,

Wow, this really gives me confidence that it’s going to a great game. Time to preorder for 70!

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says his hopes on Epic Store were 'overly optimistic or misplaced' (www.tweaktown.com) angielski

I’m genuinely shocked how much Epic poured into the store and it still lacks so much basic features. Sorting games is still extremely barebones, store is filled with NFT/crypto garbage, the store still looks like a college student’s first front-end project, and last time I used the launcher to pick up free games (last year),...

slaacaa,

I also think that developers/publishers don’t care about the % cut that much, they would rather just sell a lot of games. Which comes back to your point, the value proposition of EGS isn’t appealing to the buyer.

It’s like I make a competition to Uber with better cuts and working conditions to drivers. That is nice, but if the consumer has to wait 25 mins for my taxi while the Uber is there immediately, than they will not pick me for the same price.
