Looking for emotional game recommendations angielski

My favorite games are Omori, Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. I cried for hours at the end of those games, and I think the common point in them is high-quality emotional writing and stellar OST (music really affect me) and my attachment to the characters....

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I loved Crisis Core. But Final Fantasy X got me a lot more emotional.

The final season was expected out later this year. I wonder if they’ll still finish it. I assume so since they mentioned finishing obligations.

Edit: Allegedly the final season will be the last thing the company puts out, outside of the podcasts.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

They shifted over the years. From RvB, to Achievement Hunter, Rage Quit, and Let’s Play, to RWBY, to podcasts. It seems like the current move is just cutting out the non-pod stuff since that’s what is successful right now.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Content creators from the early days when that was a novelty.

Some stuff is legit animation like RWBY, they made the biggest mechinima ever in Red vs Blue, a show made by voicing over video game characters controlled by a player, they made videos showing how to get Xbox achievements called Achievement Hunter, Let’s Play with people just doing fun stuff in video games, and then later podcasts with random stuff like people chatting about current topics RT Podcast, plane crashes in Black Box Down, and Austin in ANMA.

A bunch of other stuff too. But that’s a good summary I think.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, I think I dropped off around then too. But I’ve been wanting to go back and watch them all since they’re wrapping it up.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

They had alleged abuse. I think part of it was the start up mentality of working long hours and expecting others to do the same even after they had become a stable company.

Some alleged slurs also from people who were a lot more comfortable than they probably should have been with coworkers. At least one of the people alleging slurs also definitely used slurs. May or may not be connected to how comfortable they were saying the types of things they did.

Honestly, that’s kind of scratching the surface. There were a couple predators that were ousted when they were caught. One dude was ousted when he went off the deep end with conspiracy theories and was too crazy to work with. One guy was an alcoholic but got better.

They seemed to gradually get better. But they really seemed to have a new controversy every couple of years.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I thought I had heard that he was problematic when he was drinking. I figured I would at least mention it.

I’m glad he got better though. Once Gus stepped away from the RT Podcast I went and listened to all of ANMA. And now that’s one of only 3 or 4 podcasts I will listen to every episode of.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

They let Bungie go as well. Maybe it was just a downsizing decision. Their roles were redundant or they didn’t want to invest in whatever they were proposing. Idk.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

That’s stupid and awesome. I’m going to have to boot it up later today and try it on my own console.

What games do you recommend for my girlfriend? angielski

My girlfriend has never really gamed. But she’s now forced to move less than she would like to (health problem) and she’s getting bored. I was thinking of introducing her to a game or two that we could play together. She’s not the real action game type, and seeing as she has no experience with controller/mouse and keyboard...

@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

LocoRoco

It’s the only game I’ve got my wife to play that she enjoyed. It’s cute with simple controls. But there’s enough there to keep her entertained for awhile.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

The biggest jump in the current consoles was the load times. I don’t think there’s anything the next gen could do to impress.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds a lot like the jump from HD to 4K. Which is to say a lot less impactful than the previous jumps and tech. And something a lot of people might not even notice.

Are there other benefits to this? Like less work for developers?

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I’d you have a PS2, you can check out Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Those are the standards and those products have value. Buying an Xbox when Playstation has all games for both consoles makes no sense unless you just have to have Gamepass, specifically.

Omegamanthethird, (edited )
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Morrowind

It’s one of my favorite games of all time. But choose a wrong setup and you’re screwed. Don’t get anything before heading out you’re dead. Attack a peasant, dead. Go in that cave, dead. Get winded before doing anything, dead and frustrated.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

At that point, you might as well just use console commands to set your strength to 1000.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Scroll of Icarian Flight. It boosted acrobatics. AFAIK, there’s no way to make a spell or potion boosting a skill, just the 10 attributes. So the few jumping scrolls are all that you can get.

Also, a note about unexpected consequences. Boosting your strength to ridiculous proportions can cause your weapons to basically explode after one hit.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

It sounds like a rehash of Avengers.

Fun story but don’t expect much more out of it. Solid 7.

What are some hidden indie gems nobody knows about? angielski

Which indies did you discover and would love more people to know about? I’ll start: The Pale Beyond. Not sure if it’s a hidden gem tbh, but it’s such a good story rich game. I laughed, I cried and felt the characters struggles. If you like story rich games/ choices matter, check it out.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

OMG-Z It’s a playstation mini for the PS3/PSP.

Warp on the PS3.

Donut County isn’t really a nobody game. But I never see it mentioned.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Uncharted. Dislike might be a strong word. But I don’t particularly like them.

The story is serviceable. Fine if you gameplay is great.

The fighting mechanics are serviceable. Fine if the story is great.

The climbing and puzzle mechanics are annoying. It constantly feels like you’re not doing what the game wants you to do, even if it should work.

The characters/character interactions are the highlight of the game. But it’s not enough to make the game great.

When wandering around, there’s always a cave or tomb around to explore. But yeah, there aren’t a lot of people out in the wilderness. Just the occasional naked nord or plantation.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I loved that game when it first came out. I tried starting a new character and realized I had already done everything of interest.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

To be honest I got that more from the old Tomb Raider games. To me, Uncharted was like if Indiana Jones got superpowers.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

So, at bare minimum COD will stay multiconsole. That’s not surprising.

In order of least to most surprising to go multiconsole:

  • COD
  • Diablo
  • Elder Scrolls
  • Fallout
  • Starfield
  • Fable
  • Halo

Are names unusual? The only other tactical game like that that I’ve played is Final Fantasy Tactics and they all have names.

But I agree. In XCom you just accept that you’ll have losses. But they still hurt. My first run-in with Chryssalids was especially brutal. I escaped with two of my men and a failed mission. The rest were one-shotted or eaten by their own.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

It does work the same. The biggest difference is that there’s one or two player characters at any time that will give you a game over if they perma-die. But most of your crew are blank slates (with a name) that you build up, give a specific role, and can perma-die. The roles are more distinct, and there are more roles, so losing them feels like losing a party of your team. Like, your summoner might die, and that was the only summoner you had. You have to put in some effort to replace them.

Now, there is a difference of feel. Random mobs feel like they are for grinding rather than an actual threat. So deaths outside of the story feel like you should just reload your last save to save you the trouble. XCom generally felt like a person died, but it was easier to replace their role with the next man up.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I got Spider-Man 2 for Christmas. So I’m playing through Miles Morales when I’m able to.

Also, playing Final Fantasy 8 on my phone when I have a few minutes to spare.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Unironically, that seems like a pretty easy game to remaster and turn for a profit. But also, they seem like they could ask Sony for funding in exchange for exclusivity. People don’t like exclusives, but sometimes it can fund stuff that wouldn’t normally get made.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I just finished Mario Wonder. I haven’t collected all of the flower coins or topped all of the flag poles to get the Super secret ending. I’m not sure if I want to master the time trials to do that.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t played through a full Mario game since Super Mario World. There’s a lot of fun game mechanics changes from level to level. But overall it’s basically the old games but “for kids”. There’s no difficult mechanics like the cape, nothing that you really have to backtrack for with power ups, no really crazy secret exits.

No idea how that compares to Deluxe. But it is very easy outside of a few levels.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Are you talking about the final special or the final final after you 100% everything in every level? I never did final final. I’m not sure if I want to go through the time trials to 100% everything.

There are a few 5 star levels that gave me trouble. And you’re right, some of them are very unexpected. But overall it was pretty easy.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

The normal invisible Mario badge challenges were annoying enough. Those triangle spinning bumpers are bad enough. Having both sounds like the most unfun challenge I can imagine. I think that alone is enough to convince me I don’t need to 100% everything.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I was wondering about the “I’m done” and I love it. When you’re satisfied with the game and don’t feel like you need to play any more.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

So, I actually do need to play to the credits ASAP for two reasons. First, coming back to a game is intimidating. So if I put a game down, I end up deliberating between restarting and trying to relearn the entire game from the last checkpoint. Usually I end up playing something else.

Second, I meander a lot. So even games I’m actively playing I try to stick to the plot so I don’t burn out playing side stuff. (It’s not always even side content. Sometimes it’s just dicking around.)

Omegamanthethird, (edited )
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Nice to see Rogue Legacy 2 and Theatrhythm get shoutouts. I don’t see those mentioned very often.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

It’s interesting in the same way people pieced together a story for all of the Pixar movies. But they are just fan theories that are kinda interesting.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I’m looking forward to jumping back in. Loved the story, loved the gameplay. I just hate having to wait so long after finishing a story to jump back in with new content.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Did you play Final Fantasy XV? That game planned DLC from the start. It impacted the game heavily. Some of the DLC never even got made.

They said it wasn’t planned for XVI because it wasn’t planned at the time. But also to let people know that the base game wouldn’t have pieces missing from it. It’s truly a completely standalone experience and I believe that DLC was only an afterthought at that time.

But also, companies say all the time that they’re open to stuff, DLC, ports, sequels but nothing is planned yet. It’s really common. Sometimes they go do those things, sometimes they don’t. That’s what “not planned” means.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone was. You’d think this would be a no-brainer remake.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Final Fantasy XVI about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It is a very satisfying, increasingly fun, game. I love how the story was told and the progression of the combat system which continues to give you more options without getting more complicated. And it was actually a complete story unlike XV. I’d put it in the mid top half of Final Fantasy games I’ve played.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Single-player friendly MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV and Elder Scrolls Online still seem to be really popular. To the point where I hear them talked about in normal conversations regularly.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a remake. But yeah, not different enough to justify calling it a totally new game like you can with 2 or 3.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Their SSD prices dropped significantly this past year when they allowed another company to start making them. But it’s still nowhere near as cheap as PS5’s SSD expansion which isn’t proprietary at all.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

You can, but you can’t play Series games on it. Only previous generation games. Same as on PS5.

Omegamanthethird, (edited )
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry, I took “regular” to mean external drives, not non-proprietary internal drives. Last gen you could use an external HDD to expand your storage without any issues. This gen you can still do it, but its use is limited.

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

Halo: CE, ODST, and Reach are my favorites of the series, in no particular order. I guess I like my complete stories. Reach was definitely my favorite online experience of all the games though.
