Have you been spending hours trying to pass a level? Or maybe you are completely addicted to a newly bought game. Do you have a question about a game or would like to share something else? In the Weekly Discussion Thread, you can do it all!...
I just finished Mario Wonder. I haven’t collected all of the flower coins or topped all of the flag poles to get the Super secret ending. I’m not sure if I want to master the time trials to do that.
I haven’t played through a full Mario game since Super Mario World. There’s a lot of fun game mechanics changes from level to level. But overall it’s basically the old games but “for kids”. There’s no difficult mechanics like the cape, nothing that you really have to backtrack for with power ups, no really crazy secret exits.
No idea how that compares to Deluxe. But it is very easy outside of a few levels.
So, I actually do need to play to the credits ASAP for two reasons. First, coming back to a game is intimidating. So if I put a game down, I end up deliberating between restarting and trying to relearn the entire game from the last checkpoint. Usually I end up playing something else.
Second, I meander a lot. So even games I’m actively playing I try to stick to the plot so I don’t burn out playing side stuff. (It’s not always even side content. Sometimes it’s just dicking around.)
It’s interesting in the same way people pieced together a story for all of the Pixar movies. But they are just fan theories that are kinda interesting.
I’m looking forward to jumping back in. Loved the story, loved the gameplay. I just hate having to wait so long after finishing a story to jump back in with new content.
Did you play Final Fantasy XV? That game planned DLC from the start. It impacted the game heavily. Some of the DLC never even got made.
They said it wasn’t planned for XVI because it wasn’t planned at the time. But also to let people know that the base game wouldn’t have pieces missing from it. It’s truly a completely standalone experience and I believe that DLC was only an afterthought at that time.
But also, companies say all the time that they’re open to stuff, DLC, ports, sequels but nothing is planned yet. It’s really common. Sometimes they go do those things, sometimes they don’t. That’s what “not planned” means.
Final Fantasy XVI about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It is a very satisfying, increasingly fun, game. I love how the story was told and the progression of the combat system which continues to give you more options without getting more complicated. And it was actually a complete story unlike XV. I’d put it in the mid top half of Final Fantasy games I’ve played.
Single-player friendly MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV and Elder Scrolls Online still seem to be really popular. To the point where I hear them talked about in normal conversations regularly.
Their SSD prices dropped significantly this past year when they allowed another company to start making them. But it’s still nowhere near as cheap as PS5’s SSD expansion which isn’t proprietary at all.
Sorry, I took “regular” to mean external drives, not non-proprietary internal drives. Last gen you could use an external HDD to expand your storage without any issues. This gen you can still do it, but its use is limited.
Halo: CE, ODST, and Reach are my favorites of the series, in no particular order. I guess I like my complete stories. Reach was definitely my favorite online experience of all the games though.

Just finished FFXVI finally. Loved it. I’d probably rank it somewhere in the middle of the Final Fantasy games I’ve played. The ending was a bit mundane, but the rest of the story was really well done and the combat got better and better as the game progressed.
Not sure what to play next, FFII, The Last of Us Part II, Returnal, Rogue Legacy 2. Might get back on Halo Infinite when they introduce Firefight finally, but I’m really not expecting much from that game.
MS has indicated that they will honor contracts and some promises were made to get their acquisitions through.
But everything has either been vague or outright said will be console exclusive. Bethesda is the earliest example of this, and we’ll probably see more later.
PS mostly makes their console exclusives in house. Even Spider-Man (the prime example people point to) was always intended to be console exclusive by Marvel and is only as good as it is because of Playstation funding.
Rockstar Games has announced that players subscribed to its $5.99 GTA+ membership on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles will now get access to a “rotating assortment” of classic titles, beginning with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition....
Are people really going to wait? I thought the whole point was that either the service has to pay for the on-loan games, or if it’s their own product it encourages you to just go buy it if you liked it so much.
Oh, as far as video, absolutely. If it leaves one you wait for it to come back on another. But for video games, I just assume once it’s gone, it won’t come back again any time soon. I think there’s kind of different expectations.
Since its release in 2020, the Xbox Series S has been the subject of debate over its value within the current hardware generation lineup due to being less powerful than the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. It turns out, Microsoft's $300 Series S is more popular than the Series X....
I know I only got it because I couldn’t get an SX and it’s my secondary console. I kinda regretted it, but it really doesn’t get a lot of use. And probably won’t until Fable comes out.
Bluey, the Australian cartoon sensation (seriously, it's great and you should give it a watch even if you're not actually five years old), is being turned into a video game that's coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC on 17th November this year....
When you say PS Plus, do you mean the Essentials tier which is (was) equivalent to Gold or the other tiers?
For the record, I think PS Plus Premium and Extra are great (until the price hike). The vast majority of time when I want to play a game day-1, it’s not something that’s even on GamePass. So their day-1 stuff means nothing to me.
But also, Essentials has given me enough to play I could just never run out of games.
Early Bethesda games in general focused on giving you more freedom and the tools to do what you want. Where later games tried to give you more cool things to do. I think the quality decline is obvious from the change.
Happily, PlayStation 5 manages to deliver a creditable rendition of the game, but the now legendary Act Three continues to humble CPU performance - perhaps more than we anticipated going in.
PS5 gamers are more likely to put down $70 for a new game than PS4 players are to put down $60 on a new game. It’s probably just not a worthwhile investment.
I absolutely believe that exclusivity can create a better product. A company can put more resources into a game if they’re more worried about making a system seller than a profit driver.
But I don’t think for a moment that it benefited the game by creating a focus for the developers by limiting the consoles.
Seriously, if they said this about the Switch, nobody would bat an eye. But it seems to be easier to simultaneously develop for PS5 and XBox Series than to develop for both consoles and PC, given how terrible a lot of PC ports are.
Well it’s just the upgrade that they’re buying. So they’d just have the DLC without the game. Kinda like if you bought a game’s disc, then bought the upgrade, then sold the disc. Basically no access to anything that requires the game to load up.
Starfield Premium owners now have access to the game in full and are testing their internet download limits with its massive 120 GB file size, but a few hopeful gamers are going to have to wait regardless of how much they paid in advance. Intel Arc GPUs currently cannot play Starfield, with varying symptoms ranging from the game...
I think it’s opposite with the PS3. They kept the option to buy PS3 games because of reactions. But it’s only possible through the PS3, so the PS3 games won’t clutter PSN.
