It is, it’s also in alpha still. If they were claiming beta in this state I’d be more worried rather than just mad they keep adding stupid shit instead of going full optimization. They have a game, they just need to get it out the door and worry about content in future releases. It’s like the painter who can’t call a painting finished.
Yeah, the problem is it wasn’t sold as a space life game a decade ago. And there’s a vast gulf between space life sim and actually having to eat/pee. It was already controversial when he said capital ships wouldn’t despawn so you’ll have to hide it and keep a 24/7 watch to make sure it isn’t stolen. A game isn’t supposed to be a job, there’s got to be a happy medium there.

I tried to check in last week. My computer made it one hour before shutting down due to heat. It runs everything else just fine. I can’t be interested if I can’t even play the game.
Starfield steam page for the DLC currently shows eight user review score of 41%, making this one of the worst Bethesda DLC’s released of all time. This is so horribly, shockingly bad for Bethesda, because it shows as a gaming company, they are no longer capable of delivering a really good gaming experience as they had in the...
The UI and perk system is actively hostile to playing the game. It was one thing when you could always try to pick the lock in Skyrim and the more locks you picked the better you got. Now you must take the perk and it’s a requirement to pick locks before the next perk.
You cannot even craft or use core gameplay mechanics without perks. Booster pack? Perks. Targeting sub systems? Perk. (Which is hilarious because it’s in the tutorial mission and they just hard coded the event ship not to blow up. So until you visit the Internet you don’t actually know how to board other ships)
Out post building is ridiculously complex, resources take up a bajillion spaces in your inventories, there’s no guidance on production chains, and basic resources aren’t even on the same planet. So you’re back to just buying resources to get it off the ground and why are we even building an outpost again?
To be fair, the story, the fly here, shoot this, listen to story parts of the game are fine. But literally everything else around it is made as obtuse as possible because yes I want to go through a loading screen every time I need to access my main stash.
As some one said when it released. It’s Fallout 4 in space. But if all the ancillary stuff was made 100 percent more inconvenient.
I don’t think most PC gamers are running 4k. With all the price shenanigans in the GPU market over the last 5 years, actually achieving 4k has been an expensive journey for anyone doing it. Especially when games play just fine at half or a quarter of that.
After I posted I was reminded that it’s still common in FPS games to brick the graphics so there’s less hiding spots. But also my graphics card is like 7 years old and runs everything I’ve come across except Star Citizen. (Which is its own whole level of fuckery)
Hulu was really good a decade ago. Then they put ads in and created a higher tier. Nobody was surprised when it happened again some years later.
In Ukraine starlink was being hailed as a hero before Elon decided to turn off Internet access in areas he deemed Ukraine to be “too aggressive”.
Goodwill doesn’t deserve it’s reputation. It uses minimum wage exemptions for disabled people to pay it’s staff below minimum wage.
Edit to add - Destiny 2 was the other one I was thinking of and couldn’t quite place. Great PvE shooter with great story, and they killed it to force people to buy DLC.
If you breach fiduciary duty the best thing you can hope for is to be fired. Executives have been criminally charged for it as well though. And while it has to be an intentional act of malfeasance, that gets pretty blurry when the shareholders hire thousand dollar an hour lawyers to come after you.
So while yes, the root cause is greed, the system itself is setup to feed that.
Oh geez there’s so many people tend to write articles about the general phenomenon rather than specific examples.
One of the biggest recent examples though has got to be Boeing. While they’re a publicly traded company, they resisted the call of greed above all until they merged with McDonnell Douglas and the MD executives won the battle for control of the merged company. Things went on a decades long slide after that which resulted in hundreds of deaths and a chain of high profile mechanical failures we’re still not sure is over.
For privately held corporations it’s all about that new leadership. In fact around 70 percent of family run ones fail in the second generation. But any generation can run the business into the ground or change it up. Bancroft and Barings are great examples of that. Barings was 232 years old when it went bankrupt under mismanagement.
Yeah that wasn’t great but I think it was the part where they literally deleted a bunch of the story so you either bought the DLC or wandered the maps aimlessly killing stuff that really broke any good will left.
I’m not going to read the wiki on an active war with a cult of personality involved. It’s not going to be unbiased.
News reports from the period make the situation very clear. As well as whistle blowers straight up telling us Elon personally shut down their Internet.
It’s a Chinese game developer. These are the things they’re sensitive to. COVID started in China and I guess feminist is a big fucking red flag for women in China?
I’m replaying Dragon Age Inquisition right now and holy shit Batman. Having to go sell stuff every 10 minutes is fucking annoying. Just give me gold. I don’t need 10 magic staffs with the exact same stats. And God help me if I don’t do inventory management before anything higher than a fetch quest.
Narrative RPGs and loot shooter mechanics do not mix, unless you have an auto sell option. Which would have worked beautifully, you even set up these camps. Why can’t I “send to camp” and have a minion sell it for me?
Oh crap. That just PlayStation’s going to do it too. Right now I get ads at the bottom and games at the top so I can at least jump straight into a game. Assuming I don’t boot straight into one because I went to rest mode in it.
It’s mobile gaming too. Phones are eating their lunch on the small games. PCs are doing it on big games. And it’s their own restrictive rules that caused it.
It wasn’t even that. If they had just gone for a grittier more realistic take it would have been fine on visuals and effects. The acting though was cringe worthy at times and the writing wasn’t any better. It just wasn’t a fun show to watch.
I never thought I’d applaud the Netflix approach but it should have been used here. They should have just shut down production on season 2 when the first fell flat on its face.
The helmet thing is at odds with how our film industry works. Actors really are paid commensurate to their popularity and if your big role doesn’t have your face on it then you don’t get paid as much. So either you have to hire an A lister who doesn’t mind, (the Mandalorian did this and there was still tension), or you settle for a modified helmet or having the helmet off whenever you can rationalize it.
I did try it, it’s far more like breach and clear and other simulators around the building clearing experience. That said I know why they’re marketing it to be like XCOM. It’s the magic, but the truth is it’s a great little puzzle game in a way that XCOM isn’t, i.e. you know what the outcome is going to be. There’s no missing 100 percent shots here! (RIP Sir Lancelot) It has a story attached with great writing and possibly a divergent story line where you have to figure out the mystery yourself. Either that or the red string board you interact with is just extra interaction to help sell the story. We’ll have to see!
Lmao, most workers in the US don’t have a contract at all. They’re under a system called “At Will Employment” that was part of breaking the Unions. They can quit at any time, but they can also be fired at any time, for nearly anything. (It can’t be discrimination, but it could be the color of the shirt you wore that day)
So yeah the terms of your employment in the US can change at any time.
Why? Is there some kind of real cost to changing appearance or fast travel that it needs to be limited? Or is that there solely so they can sell MTX?
I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 right now and you can do both at any time for free. It’s literally a standard UI thing across games with large maps and character creators.

Eh… Like I said, I was doing a bit more just to play with friends. I guess these days it would depend. If you did the install and introduced it as the method for launching the game I don’t think they’d even question it.
