This is one of the benefits of PS+; you can demo almost anything since it just gives you 2 hours with the full game.

Steam (and other PC fronts/games) could do this. But it would also make it quite easy to pirate those, which is probably why they don’t.

Have you tried Bridge Commander or the not actually star trek, but still totally star trek game Artemis?

They’re basically that. Randomly generated scenarios where you, and a few friends, command a Starfleet vessel to solve dilemmas or just exist in the world. The fun is mostly in the MP aspect (though Bridge Commander can be played solo), and the missions are pretty samey and mostly explained through text briefings. But it really feels like being on the bridge of the Enterprise.

Because the Creation Engine is a pile of shit stacked on top of another pile of shit known as Gamebryo. The only way it even is able to handle high speed vehicles for the space combat is by having much smaller external cells with absolutely nothing in them.

What they could have done, though, is make the planets fully walkable. For some reason, those are also not seamless. You eventually hit invisible walls in any sector you land at. The engine is very capable of handling that, though. Especially if it’s just empty terrain.

Starfield is the first and only Bethesda game I haven’t really liked. It’s got all the same gameplay elements, but it’s lacking the world building and interesting stories. The lore is bland as fuck, barely scratches the surface of what you’d want to know, and none of the stories really lean into actually telling you about the world in a fun way, opting instead to give big blocks of dialogue that are nothing but history and exposition. Where is the environmental story-telling they’ve always had? Is the blandness of the world simply a matter of it being new and young and not having nearly as much history as Elder Scrolls and Fallout to build on? Have they simply lost their touch? Believe me, I have tried to like this game. I am a huge fan of space stuff and Bethesda games, but it just doesn’t have that certain something that makes their games actually fun.

Regardless of the quality of the writing, they certainly had more interesting ideas in their lore and settings that added something to the experience. That’s what Starfield is lacking.

DMC grades you on the “rule of cool.” It’s not about being good. It’s about looking good, and is based on how many times you can hit something without missing or being hit; often you’ll take out an enemy pretty fast without getting even a B rating, and I feel like getting through the game faster is better than keeping a weak ass enemy in the air for 1000 hits. So found it much easier to ignore than Hitman and other stealth game rating systems, as those really do kinda judge how well you did since they focus on being stealthy. Sure you can go in guns blazing and kill everything to win, but it’s a stealth game. You’re supposed to be sneaky. The scoring reflects that.

I have been using computers and tech since I was super little, and I’ve actually noticed a trend toward simplification over time. I remember just to play dos games with sound you had to configure the sound card every time to use the correct channels and IRQ and what not… Now a days, everything is a simple button press to install and get going or plug n play.

The main difference between the setup of a PS2 and a PS5 is the internet stuff; the PS5 has more things to configure, but it’s not particularly difficult to do (updates are time consuming tho). But if you had the modem/tried to play online with the PS2, the internet setup is more complicated than the PS5’s since it requires manually forwarding ports on your router.

I remember when I first got mine, I played like 8 hours of MGS2 before I realized I forgot to buy memory cards. So I had to leave the system running overnight until I could go out and get 1.

You can’t join all 4 factions through to the end in Fallout 4. At some point you piss off the other 3.

And in Oblivion and Skyrim, none of the factions are really opposed to each other, until DLC with the Dawnguard vs Vampires.

To be specific, it’s build engine mechanics, with modern game ideas, in a cyberpunkish setting; so it’s got a little bit of all those things in it. It’s great!

It’s funny and true; I have no desire to continue playing and yet I am still excited to get my hands on the toolkit and make my own shit because all I see are missed opportunities everywhere. Honestly, I kinda wonder how into sci-fi the devs actually are, because everything is surface-level and misses the mark on a lot of referencial material so often.

He exaggerates or straight up lies about the games he has made. Despite some of them being very good, they still under delivered on many outrageous claims Moleneux has made.

Like with Fable, he once said shit ranging from that you’d be able to do shit like carve your name in a tree and watch it grow and the scar evolve over time and even seemingly minor things like fighting a dragon as a boss which didn’t come to fruition.

Basically Dwarf Fortress, but sci-fi, with space travel and with really good 3D graphics.

An overly complicated simulation of an entire universe where I can do anything that the game’s laws of physics allow me to do. Particularly, I dream of a game where you can fulfil Star Trek fantasies of solving convoluted problems with equally convoluted solutions; but without it being a pre-programmed option. (“Reconfigure the deflector dish to output a neutrino wave to counter act the tachyon field!”)

Fake physics that allow for real fake science and engineering.

Close, but RimWorld’s mechanics are nowhere near the complexity, even with mods. And I don’t just mean with how many different types of rocks and trees exist. I’ve gotten as close to a DF-like experience + the space travel part, but it’s still like 1/4 of the full experience.

Although it’s moddable, which boosts it’s playability a bit more. I’ve played more RimWorld than DF at this point.

It’s been out longer and has improved over time. I’d wait until Starfield has been out for about the same length of time, see if things even out or continue to trend down.

What needs improvement in Starfield, though, isn’t likely to actually be improved. Can’t even think of a time where a game’s story was re-written over time to be better.

It doesn’t have the same impact from the world design or story telling. It’s generic. It’s boring. It’s bland. The game play is exactly the same, but the motivation to give a shit about anything is gone because nothing about the world is very interesting aside from the aesthetics.

Shit, man, even the books in the game are just excerpts from real books. Like… humans haven’t written anything new in the 200 something years since Earth’s exodus? Cmon.

Hopefully a lot of the bad ass mods that really made the first couple of games even cooler get ported for the remakes. And not just the tons of Matrix mods because the game came out around the same time the movie was new and extremely popular.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew with the sequel, or you’re just going to repeat history. I liked the game since launch, but it was still very evident CDPR wanted to do more than they realistically could while still actually releasing a product.

Great vision, perhaps too much; but poorly managed their time and resources. Stretched too thin on portability to every available console at the time of release. Constant changes of scope. Etc.

What games can you recommend that didn't get the appreciation that they deserved? angielski

I’ve been recently been thinking about Arkane Studio’s Prey which is a immersive sim, with a pretty good rogue like dlc, that probably has one of the strongest hooks of any game I’ve played. If you liked Halflife, System Shock, or Deus Ex it’s definitely worth a play....

If you like Soulslikes The Surge is a really good sci-fi take on the genre. It succeeds in the vagueness, the atmosphere, and the combat. It has a bit of a gimmick with how you obtain parts by targeting and dismembering limbs which is really fun. However the story kinda goes off the rails near the end and the last few areas of the game are arguably the worst designed levels of the game. Plus the boss fights can be a PITA despite being super cool design wise.

I don’t see it brought up as often as things like Nier or Mortal Shell though, and IMO it’s better than both of those.
