I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username.

If I was a character in Danganronpa, my talent would be The Ultimate Loser and I’d be the first character killed in the murder game.

If they’re on Fandom, it’s because Fandom fucking sucks to work with. It sucks to view, and it sucks to edit. So I could understand people not wanting to deal with that shit.

They’re also still new and fairly large games. Unless the dev itself makes the wiki, they don’t usually have much content the first year or so of a game’s life.

Dude, I put like 60 hours into Skyrim my first time before I thought “hey… where’s my shout powers and all the dragons?” Because as soon as Hadvar said “we should split up to avoid suspicion” I unchecked the active quest, said “adios!” And vanished into the trees. I had to come back at like level 30 or something to do the entire MQ from Riverwood to the end.

That’s just how a lot of people play these. I don’t wanna follow their story; I wanna make my own.

Edit: Oh and this is all besides the fact that not only do mods disable achievements, so now do console commands in Starfield. I’ve had to no clip a few times to get unstuck while jumping around with low gravity and ending up places I shouldn’t be, so there are probably some achievements I didn’t get simply because that command likely disabled them (it just gives a generic warning that some commands will disable them, but not which ones).

After coming off San Andreas when 4 came out, I figured it was the same as SA with the skill system that made the cars less slidey the better CJ got. But nope. It’s just like that. It gives the vehicles more sense of weight, but it’s too slidey unless the road is meant to be black ice. I feel like 5 has the best arcade like driving. Especially with the addition of being able to control your pitch and roll in a car and not just on a bike. It’s not too real, but it’s not super cartoonish. It’s a perfect middle area.

Kolanaki,

This seems kinda random for a game that old and nothing changed between its release and now. Is there a sequel in the pipe or something? Why now all of a sudden would they make this press release?

Starfield players are being haunted by asteroids (www.rockpapershotgun.com) angielski

Over the weekend, Starfield players began to share reports of a strange paranormal infestation. There are asteroids in the game that, for reasons known only to gods and/or programmers, follow you from orbit to orbit, flying eerily in formation with your ship, and sometimes even accompanying you to a planet's surface. "In one of...

!deleted6508 avatar

They don’t need to make one; they can use one of the many engines that already exist and can do everything their games try to do, but with far less jank. Unless they somehow manage to insert it in regardless, which I would not put past them.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

It’s not like this phenomena is limited to the Quest or Meta. It happens all the time across the whole industry.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I have about 120 hours and I also haven’t touched 100 planets. I don’t see the point in it, when they are mostly empty with randomly generated content that by now I’ve seen every possible thing that can exist, I’d just be seeing more of the same; exploring the same handful of possible base configurations across hundreds of planets isn’t really exploring. None of that stuff is interesting, and the stories and dialogue aren’t very interesting either. It’s exactly what I expected, and I guess I just don’t want that anymore. I want them to actually improve the formula and gameplay, and stop making the same exact game with a different coat of paint.

Kolanaki,

Does Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony know?

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

They finally give you something that controls how people refer to you in their games, and dipshits wanna remove it? This is as close as you’re going to get to having characters refer to you as a choice you’ve taken other than Codsworth and Vasco having like 1000 generic names recorded to use.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

I wouldn’t. I mean, I hate Nazis but I don’t mind a game where I can choose to play as one (so long as the context makes sense like it’s a multiplayer WW2 game or Diso Elysium). It’s a fuckin’ choice. If you don’t like one of the options: Choose a different one.

Kolanaki, (edited )
!deleted6508 avatar

They definitely use your pronouns a lot. It’s all they refer to you as, aside from cute nicknames like “Dusty,” or “rook” or “renegade.” Probably doesn’t stand out if you chose your normal pronouns, since they’d just be say he/him or she/her or they/them.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I am just picturing the orc noble who uses words incorrectly/mispronounces shit. Forgot what those are called, but they have similar characters in most of their games. In Starfield, they even called him “Dumbrosky.” Dumb Bro ski.

Video gaming is basically every other art form combined into a single package, with even more artistic value because of player agency and choice. So yeah… It is the best form of art.

In this case I can understand some frustration if you have a PlayStation and can’t play Starfield but would like to. But not to this degree. Just, like… post your disdain for the exclusivity online.

Basically your choices with travel are “how many load screens do I want to see between here and my destination.” And that’s not really what anyone wants. It is not the same as being able to walk from Solitude to Dawnguard. Not even remotely close. You can’t even walk from settlement to settlement on a planet because they only ever have the one settlement.

Games consoles are infuriatingly exempt from California's otherwise important new right to repair bill (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

California, the biggest state in the US when it comes to both population and the sheer volume of tech companies squeezed into its borders, has just passed the country's most extreme right to repair bill in the US (via Ars Technica). If I had used Windows 10 edition at any point, would I have already migrated? I haven’t played Minecraft in ages, but I certainly don’t want to lose access to it.

Edit: Wtf… I get an “Access forbidden” error just going to minecraft.net/login

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Other way around, actually. I bought Minecraft way before Microsoft owned Mojang, but at some point they gave access to the Windows 10 edition for owners of the Java edition. I’ve installed that before, around that time, and I’m just wondering if that was enough to have migrated my account. It’s worrying tho that I tried to login in at minecraft.net and got a access error trying to reach the login page.

Here’s a good list of space games I personally love for one reason or another:

  • X3 Terran Conflict
  • Elite: Dangerous
  • Wing Commander
  • Freelancer
  • X4
  • RimWorld*
  • FTL
  • Star Trek: Bridge Commander
  • Artemis (basically bridge commander but not themed, not single player and free)

*RimWorld admittedly requires some heavy modification to make it an actual space game, but the mods I use are good enough that I can count it as such.

I’ve only seen one truly uncomfortable close up and it was when a dialogue initiated right in a doorway so the camera got pushed right up the dude’s nose and I could see the empty space in his head lol

I prefer to play 1st person and I’ve always been quite okay with the camera angle for talking to someone, personally. It’s kinda how I would see people I’m talking to face to face IRL, except I don’t have to look down. I only dislike when multiple characters are involved and it does that jump cut to zoom in on a dude across the room. That’s not natural at all.

What games had easy soft locks that prevented you from either progressing or getting a true ending? angielski

The thought came to mind after reading a recent post about Baldurs Gate 3 here but it reminded me of the Japense only PSX game Mizzurna Falls where if you don’t perform a certain action early in the game you are prevented from getting a true ending. While this might not be a traditional soft lock because you can still progress...

Sierra adventure games, like King’s Quest and Space Quest, were notorious for this kind of thing. Like there could be an item you have 1 chance to get, and you didn’t know, so you don’t get it and then several hours later when you’re at the end of the game, you realize you need that thing to solve the puzzle and actually move on. But you can’t. Because you didn’t get it when you had the chance and you can not go back.

It also distinguishes them from EA’s sports titles. Or at least, it did, when they both made games for the same sports.

Does anyone know of any kid-friendly "horror" games out there for children ~7 years old?

My son loves the adrenaline rush of getting scared, particularly with jump scares, however, I have a lot of difficulty finding a game or show which is appropriate for him. He is prone to nightmares, and more adult-oriented “kid horror” is too much (Poppy’s Playtime, Cartoon Cat?) And others like Siren Head. His peers...

Steam's Oldest User Accounts Turn 20, Valve Celebrates With Special Digital Badges - IGN (www.ign.com) angielski

It was basically GameSpy, but better.

GameSpy was a universal server browser.

If you ever used the server browser in Steam itself and not from the game, that’s basically what they were. An external app that you could get a list of servers for pretty much anything you added to it.

I can’t wait to see the whole Disney movie where Todd Howard is the villain with the catchy song about being evil.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Starfield. Kinda. It’s not sucking me in like literally every other Bethesda RPG has. I find myself playing for only like 1-2 hours at a time, and having fun while doing so but also just kinda not sure what I really want to do, because everything I know I want to try is locked behind some high tier skills, so I’m just trying to level up to do that shit and often just wander aimlessly looking for a quest that is more than just under a minute of my time to complete. I’ve done 3 semi-major quest lines so far (UC Vanguard, Freestar Rangers, and Ryujin) and they were pretty short for faction quests.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

While DLC would be welcome, I really want a toolset to make my own campaigns.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

There have been digital tabletop tools that allow you to play any game for so long, that are free, I don’t see how they would ever really get anyone on board with a subscription service to do the same thing.

I use a couple myself with my group. They have some premium features like access to tilesets; but they also allow importing an image to use so it’s not like I feel compelled to subscribe.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I’m sure he’s just talking about the Creation Kit toolset. We can do script related things and add models and textures; we can’t add new locations or NPCs afaik without the toolset. Or at least, nowhere near as easily. If it can be done, I’d like to read up on that.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I don’t even understand the delays. They have claimed that the tools they release are the same tools they use to build out their games. Shouldn’t they already have working tools? And what really changes between the games that I can’t just use Fallout 4’s or Skyrim’s creation kit? I’ve always found this to be odd.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Man… if vanilla New Vegas is still giving you performance issues, you might wanna upgrade your toaster.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Are we talking about a whole engine re-write or just bringing the game into modern times graphically? Because you could do the latter much easier and with less time (still time consuming yes, but not as much) with just basic modding and not even need the source code.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

I mean I still play it on a modern system mostly unmodded (I do minor QOL mods like adding/moving fast travel points to limit loading screens but nothing super fancy or specifically for performance). Still on windows 10, though. I get no performance issues, though crashing is still a worry. It’s not like every 30 minutes tho, like when it was new 🤣

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

“Cool hook! How’d you get it?”

“Crocodile ate me hand.”

“What about your eye patch?”

“Had an itch. T’was the same day I got me hook.”

Kolanaki,

My ideal Star Trek game would be a first-person immersive sim where I can just be a random citizen in the galaxy and just… Live there. Maybe I join Star Fleet. Maybe I join the Marquis. Or I could be a Klingon or a Borg, or one of the Dominion’s warrior slave dudes addicted to drugs.

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

As I mention further in the thread, I am a premium Spotify user and they have been removing lyrics from songs that used to have them recently. It may not matter if you have the features or not, if they’re just going to be removing the lyrics anyway. Which makes it even shittier that they would advertise it as a premium feature, just for users to subscribe and find out none of the songs they want lyrics for have them anymore.

Looking for games with unique core mechanics

I’m requesting for recommendations for games that stand out from the rest in their genre, and not in the sense of being the best game in that niche but actually bringing something new and innovative to the table. I’ve not had much experience in gaming, but I have a few games to give you a hint on what I am talking about:...

Kolanaki,
!deleted6508 avatar

Dwarf Fortress mostly doesn’t have unique gameplay mechanics or anything; but the Legends viewer certainly is a unique feature, due to how all the systems work together to weave randomly generated stories and history of the world through the entire world generation process. So even though you didn’t play the game through all those years, the game still kept track of everything going on while simulating the world creation and you can go through it and see all the battles, conflicts, migrations, rise and fall of civilizations, deaths of monsters, etc.
