I’ve been loving the default map in the game. Its kinda like going back to the days Bethesda would write out navigation instructions in the quest and let the player use their brain to figure out where to go instead of marking it with a gigantic exclamation mark.
What are you talking about? You don't need to listen to a damn word anyone says. Just follow the waypoints, fast travel to everything. The game is a menu navigation simulator.
Skyrim’s launch was less impressive than it’s eternal longevity. Released on 11.11.11 and ported to everything but a Texas Instrument’s calculator. (Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s been done too, mods included)
It’s wild that between games like NMS, EVE, Elite, even Satisfactory, there are great examples of what Bethesda should’ve done, but for whatever reason didn’t. There’s so much basic stuff that’s just…missing. I can only hope it’s all eventually modded in so players can have a more complete experience.
Why? What would their dissolution do for the industry? Making a bad or mediocre game isn’t really that big of a deal. They can make as many games as they want, as far as I’m concerned. The bad ones can just be ignored, and any good ones can be picked up.
There will surely be mods for that soon. I doubt they’ll add one officially. One good thing about Bethesda games is that basically everything people want can and will become mods.
Baldur’s Gate III just came out and it’s an absolutely phenomenal RPG
Octopath Traveler II is also a really great RPG
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom came out earlier this year, which was also amazing, though obviously that’s (officially) only on Switch
Final Fantasy XVI was super fun, but that one is a PlayStation 5 exclusive
Then there is Starfield, the big new Bethesda game is space
A new Yakuza (though the series is being renamed to “like a dragon” now) game is coming out later this year as well (it’s a very storied game series though, if you’re not familiar with it, I’d suggest starting with either Yakuza 0 or Judgment)
Early this year there was actually another Like a Dragon game, Like a Dragon: Ishin, which is also great
A new Assassin’s Creed comes out soon as well, which is going back to a more traditional gameplay loop (recent entries were RPG-like, and this is going to be more stealth focused again like AC1-Unity)
Armored Core 6 is supposedly also a really good game where you build your mech to fight big enemies (though I personally don’t know much about that game)
Hi-Fi Rush was a really really good game, it’s a sort of rhythm adventure game where you have to fight in the beat of the music.
Ubisoft is also releasing their Avatar (blue Aliens, not the air bender) game late this year (December if I’m not mistaken), which should scratch your FarCry itch, I’d say.
I’m sure there are more that I either forgot or aren’t necessarily my wheelhouse, but those are the big ones
Awesome rundown — thank you 🙏 I enjoyed the only Assassin’s Creed I played (Egypt one) so a new one coming out is exciting! The Bulder’s Gate game definitely sounds like a hit though I’ve not played many RPGs in the past. Might also check out that rhythm game — sounds like a novel idea for a game, which is always refreshing.
