VonReposti, w Pirating Microsoft Office 2019 on Linux?

This might be a stupid question but now that you’re on Linux, why not use something like LibreOffice or Collabora?

_comfortablyAverage_,
@_comfortablyAverage_@lemmy.ml avatar

Libreoffice is the most atrociously structured piece of software I ever encountered. not only is the UI absolutely dated and god awful trash, it can fuck up microsoft office formatted documents. i possess a special hate for it since it decided to crap out on me when I REALLY positively needed it.

don’t know about collabora, will look into it

luna,

If you dislike the UI, you can turn on an MS Office-like ribbon design in the settings

Blizzard, w Ad blocking on android

You wouldn’t be able to use AdGuard properly with Opera anyway because Opera don’t accept user certificates (issued by AdGuard or AdAway) so it wouldn’t filter https traffic.

Try Vivaldi, amazing browser, built-in adblocker. Hopefully will be better than Opera’s. Personally haven’t tested it as I’m using said AdGuard which Vivaldi has no problem with - one of the reason I moved from Opera to Vivaldi.

Or simply change DNS to AdGuard.

AnonTwo, w Every Streamer That Raised Prices in 2023 (So Far)

Are they calling Streaming Sites Streamers? I'm confused.

Tristano,

Yes, it seems like a really recent term to me. I first heard it when the writers strike began and never before that.

When I think streamer I think of people on Twitch or YouTube who stream themselves. No idea where calling streaming services/sites “streamers” came from but it always confuses me.

pre, w How is pirating software a thing?
@pre@feddit.uk avatar

Worth noting that paying for a license for software doesn’t stop it being spying malware either. In fact the pirate versions often take out the spying and the reporting-to-homebase that proprietary software does.

The photoshop that phones home to check a license is arguably more malicious than the pirate version that has been cracked so it doesn’t do that.

alexg_k,

Good and valid point. I use opensource software wherever I can.

Though paid software is not going to encrypt your data for ransom or use a keylogger to steal bitcoin (yet).

NullGator,

There was an antivirus that was caught running a bitcoin miner in the background tbf. If memory serves it was Norton?

words_number, w preach

I have a better idea: Instead of piracy, just don’t use/consume products that are exclusively distributed through shitty business models. At least when it comes to software, that’s much more effective.

Gto,

So, if you need this software and where’s no alternative?

themoonisacheese, w Arrrgh what am I doing wrong?
@themoonisacheese@sh.itjust.works avatar

Rutracker is very specific in what emails it allows. Emails on my custom domain were already banned, I think they have a whitelist of email domains. I just ended up using my Gmail address, but yeah if you have a protonmail or own domain address I’m guessing you won’t have much success. You also might need to click the email validation link that ends up in spam.

kostel_thecreed,

Tutanota and mailbox.org work with Rutracker

I tried tutanota and didn’t. Sorry for the late reply

Reocken, w Have you considered IRC?

Since RARBG shut down, I been using IRC more often for 2160p releases that are tougher to come by. Also, I never stopped using it for chatting. You won't ever catch me using that bloated Discord garbage.

garret,
@garret@lemmy.ml avatar

Could you tell a resourse for 2160p releases? Did not know IRC could be used also for such “big files”.

JoMiran, w Have you considered IRC?
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I think this post should come with a huge disclaimer that IRC is highly addictive and a major time suck. If you’re trying to remain productive, avoid IRC.

SOURCE: I was on IRC all the way back to the 90s.
