What’s it called

odium, w Facebook marketplace in my country is wild.

India?

spiderman,

yes

melonlord,

Nepal actually

safesyrup,

What does rs. stand for? I just checked and nepal uses the nepalese rupee which is normally abbreviated to NPR, but rs. ?

melonlord,

We use both. Rs is just short for rupees. NPR is for official use.

safesyrup,

Ahh, makes sense. Cool, thanks.

hurtn, w On demand sports streaming?

just get this. all your live TV media problems solved. privateiptvaccess.com

SomeoneElse,

Isn’t that live tv only? No on demand?

ANIMATEK,

I just checked and the basic plan has 19K VODs. Maybe report back if you like it?

SomeoneElse,

I will. If it does work it’ll make a lot of British tennis fans happy!

CeleryFC,

Have you found an answer if it plays sports on demand? Thinking of signing up for this to watch the premier league matches in the US.

SomeoneElse,

No, but I have emailed them to ask. I’ll let you know if I get an answer/try it to see.

CeleryFC,

Thanks man!

SomeoneElse,

Hey! I had no luck finding sports replays on demand from an IPTV. But I did find a work around for this event - ESPN via YouTubeTV. It’s an American service so you need a VPN and US zip code - 11108 worked for me. It has a 21 day free trial and has all the EPSN channels (except plus) live and on demand. It wouldn’t let me sign up with my UK based PayPal, but it happily accepted my UK debit card with the American zip code.

CeleryFC,

What a legend! Follows up 3 weeks later with an answer and a work around solution! Love it! Thanks brother, you deserve all the best in this world.

SomeoneElse,

You’re welcome! I forgot to say, if it helps in future I did find some decent live coverage on IPTV, much better than sky sports and ESPN imo. The Australian channel Stan had a dedicated channel for every court (Stan sports 1-19), commentary on every main draw match and no adverts. It was better than the live sports streaming websites. Have a good one 👍🏼

BrownianMotion, w Legendary PC developer says Denuvo is “a punishment to the consumer”
@BrownianMotion@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Release a DEMO, like the old days. So we can DECIDE FOR OURSELVES!!

Its a simple fucking technique. We only pirate to try, if its shit - then fuck you. If its good - then you have a purchase.

Alimentar,

That’s the problem though. They want you to commit to a purchase and hope that you forget about your 2h grace window

isVeryLoud,

You can return games on Steam tbh, enough of a demo for me if you’re a Steam user.

I think you can also return physical copies? Depends.

Cethin,

Two hours really isn’t enough for a lot of games. Some games you can’t even get through the tutorial in two hours.

PosadistInevitablity,
@PosadistInevitablity@hexbear.net avatar

I mean I just pirate it and play the pirated version lmfao.

No sense in paying money at that point

vacuumflower,

Actually yes.

In my childhood it wasn’t very easy to find a licensed copy (TBF, even pirate copy sometimes), but demos would be distributed with magazines etc.

And after playing a demo which you like a licensed honestly bought copy becomes emotionally much better than piracy.

It was a working mechanism. For games which are not crap anyway.

UlyssesT, w Legendary PC developer says Denuvo is “a punishment to the consumer”

“Postal” is such a steaming pile of edgelord shit that even Civvie11 doing videos on the franchise doesn’t make it any more bearable for me.

Critical support for this developer’s message here, that said.

axont,

I appreciate Postal 2 because the premise is kinda funny. It’s deliberately designed so you can beat it without doing any violence at all. You’re given tasks like get milk, pick up your paycheck, etc. And it involves standing in lines or people berating you. You’re stuck doing tedious annoying repetitive tasks, or you can get a flamethrower. I think standing in line to get Gary Coleman’s autograph takes 90 minutes if you do it normally.

Otherwise it’s very silly early 2000s edgy white guy dudebro humor

UlyssesT, (edited )

You’re stuck doing tedious annoying repetitive tasks, or you can get a flamethrower.

That premise, while cute, hasn’t aged well for me. The ever-rising number of chanlords shooting up their schools (and elder chanlords murder-suiciding their own families) because no one would blow them behind the bleachers (or because the wife left him or the kids won’t call anymore) sours the premise of “wouldn’t it be funny to murder everyone that mildly annoyed you” white guy dudebro humor for me long ago.

winkerjadams,

Yo its a video game

UlyssesT,

“Yo its a video game”

Yeah, and that changes nothing about why I don’t like it. You’re giving a lazy thought terminating cliche here.

EDIT: Christ, you activated a long dormant alt account just to stan for your edgy video game? That’s just sad.

winkerjadams,

This is my only lemmy account and I made it before reddit killed 3rd party apps as I quit going on there. Going through my post history to try and judge me is something weird to do though

UlyssesT,

Going through my post history to try and judge me is something weird to do though

Rising from dormancy while otherwise doing nothing with that account, just to announce how mad you are that your edgy game wasn’t to my liking is weirder to me.

“Yo its just an opinion”

Surely someone must be a moron if they don’t like your edgy video game! What an emergency! And I’m so not worth your time that you’re still replying, you foaming frothing edgy gamer stereotype. frothingfash

HumanPerson, w jellyfin with subtitles on Chromecast

I believe jellyfin has an option to ‘burn in’ subtitles so they are part of the video. I don’t know how this effects performance or anything but it should work for what you described. I believe you can turn it on through the admin web ui.

7h0m4s,

This is indeed the correct answer. It is under the transcoding options. Your server will essentially need to re-transcode the video on the fly to add in subtitles. Which requires a not insignificant amount of processing power.

I ran into this issue while running jellyfin on a raspberry pi.

So long as your server has hardware acceleration turned on. To allow jellyfin to use your GPU for transcoding. You should be fine.

Why would you watch popcorn. Just eat it.

jray4559, w Legendary PC developer says Denuvo is “a punishment to the consumer”
@jray4559@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

It is bad for the consumer… but the alternative is instant cracks, as seen with a lot of games on r/Crackwatch that don’t have the DRM.

Denuvo is the first software in a long time that has been able to successfully stop the supposedly inevitable march to cracking. It’s a miracle that more AAA devs don’t use it, since it works so well. (EMPRESS aside)

You can hate me all you want for saying this, but the war against piracy, for the most part, has been won.

JustEnoughDucks, w jellyfin with subtitles on Chromecast
@JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl avatar

Be careful, subtitles on Chromecast seem to get progressively more and more out of sync until it is about 3 seconds out of sync if they are not embedded in the media.

Hi there fellow Czech! Where do you usually pirate stuff?

DirtyCNC, (edited )

Ahoj,

uloz.to + FreeRapid Downloader. The baseline speed of around 1.2 GB/h is enough for 720p and some 1080p movies which FreeRapid Downloader allows me to “stream” if I enable opening unfinished files. I can get a film running on my Linux HTPC (old laptop) <3 minutes after my family agrees on one (the hardest part). Our TV is rather small and 768p so resolution is not a concern but I sit close and like to enjoy at least 576p DVD quality.

I have qBittorrent installed but I am in no private trackers (yet). I would especially welcome one that has German dubs because original & Czech ones are easy.

Join us at czech-lemmy.eu!

MigratingApe,

I’ve seen good amount of German dubbed goodies on various IRC XDCC channels (why are they so popular?)

If someone starts his list with NordVPN you know its complete and utter bullshit

Ilandar,

That’s not how the annual Torrentfreak VPN questionnaire works.

loudWaterEnjoyer,
@loudWaterEnjoyer@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It doesn’t work good if they act like all those providers are a considerable choice

Ilandar,

They don’t. I suspect you haven’t actually read one of these articles in detail.because it is in no way a recommendation from TorrentFreak. It literally opens with this:

The VPN review business is also flourishing as well. Just do a random search for “best VPN service” or “VPN review” and you’ll see dozens of sites filled with recommendations and preferred picks. Some VPN companies, such as Kape, even own review sites.

At TF we don’t want to make any recommendations. When it comes to privacy and anonymity, an outsider can’t offer any guarantees. Vulnerabilities are always lurking around the corner and even with the most secure VPN, you still have to trust the VPN company with your data.

Instead, we aim to provide an unranked overview of VPN providers, asking them questions we believe are important. Many of these questions relate to privacy and security, and the various companies answer them in their own words.

We hope that this helps users to make an informed choice. However, we stress that users themselves should always make sure that their VPN setup is secure, working correctly, and not leaking. Also, we advise people to properly research the company behind the VPN service.

NordVPN appears first because it is a sponsor, as is clearly stated:

*Note: Private Internet access, ExpressVPN and NordVPN are TorrentFreak sponsors. We reserve the first three spots for them as a courtesy. This article also includes a few affiliate links which help us pay the bills. We never sell positions in our review article or charge providers for a listing.

The same questions are put to every VPN provider on the list. It is unranked - whether they first or last is completely irrelevant.
